If I hadn't been checking out Kendrick Lamar lately (Section 80, Kendrick Lamar EP & Overly Dedicated), I am sure I wouldn't know who Schoolboy Q is. However, after checking out "Habits & Contradictions", I definitely feel that this is something you should check out if you like other releases from Kendrick, Ab Soul, etc. I would say a strong 4 out of 5, but I have only heard this twice in its entirety so far. To those who have heard this already, what are your thoughts?

I tried listening to it once but only made it halfway. I'll try again soon. I can't see it being an album I end up liking though unless the second half pulls out some dope shit by surprise.

I can't go as far as saying I like this better than Section 80 but this is clearly a nice album. I have only heard this, 4Eva N A Day and KRS's BDP Album so far this year. I have still been listening to a lot of 2011 releases.

Co-sign. Nothing about him really grabbed me.

I just checked this out, via Spotify, as a recommendation, and nothing about this guy grabbed me either. I was not impressed and I stopped it midway through.

Is this more comparable to Section. 80 or Control System. Section. 80 and OD are just so overrated to me. I greatly prefer Control System to both.
Well from the first half I listened to, it's more like Control System, except much more boring. A bunch of tracks try to ride on the "coolness" of their samples, like Raymond 1969 (yeah, who doesn't like Cowboys by Portishead... way to do absolutely nothing with the beat and put a lame chorus in).

I would say I'm biased due to his name. Yeah, Im shallow. Also, hearing the name School Boy Q makes you think of a skinny Charlse Hamilton type dude. I know he looks like a 30-year old man who seems hard times--but thats just it. He does not look like a School Boy Q.
Rakim looks like a Rakim Mf Grimm looks like a Mf Grimm Megalon looks like a rapper that would call himself Megalon or Tommy Gunz
The guy doesn't look like his rap name!!!

I would compare it more to Control System than Section.80. To me ScHoolboy Q may have generally lighter subject matter, but is a better technical rapper than Soul and goes harder on his tracks.

I personally don't think Schoolboy's album is comparable to (or anything like) Section.80 or Control System.
Cosign. I think all three dudes are way different. To me, KL is the lyrical one, Q is the louder more fun one, and Ab is the boring one, lol. I couldn't get into his album at all.

I feel basically the same as Wand, except I like Ab-Soul too lol.
