Hip Hop Culture Myth Empty
PostSubject: Hip Hop Culture Myth   Hip Hop Culture Myth Icon_minitimeThu 13 Dec 2012, 6:14 pm

One Myth thats associated with hip hop is that it brings cultures together, or that its the ONLY music that brings cultures together. The whole culture barrier thing can be implied to all musics except country music. We can say Reggae brings cultures together. We can say Ray Charles brought cultures together. Or Rock groups from the UK connecting with an American audience. Thats bridging cultures.right?
Really, prior to the end of the 50s Whites, blacks listened to pretty much to the same music give or take a few artist. When Whites started to morph rock music and Blacks went heavy into soul-funk thats when things sorta split. But I would say Disco music brought cultures together moreso than rap music ever did since Black and Whites liked this music and party lifestyle equally on a mainstream level. I know there were muthafuckers hatin' on disco cause it helped put the country back to sleep after the Nam war.

But looking at hip hop's effect now is it really bringing cultures together? There are sub-cultures in rap that don't get along. I myself ain't partial to the lifestyle Chief Keef or Wacka Flacka promote. Their core fanbase scares me. And we all know there's Whites that live in the Avalon who listen to rap and wont even associate themselves with the "hood" and or Blacks too heavy. They may come together for a concert but when the music stops its back to reality.

And what is hip hop culture anyway?? I don't even know if I'm apart of it. Im too old to tag walls and stand in a B-Boy stance.

Also you cant define a culture by race. Like when they asked Glen Beck what is White culture he had no answer
