The Man With The Iron Fists Soundtrack

Luv NY....group with O.C., A.G., Roc Marc, Kurious & Kool Keith but more like a compilation featuring them.........try before buy....lot of people hated it....beats are really mellow, it grew on me

Guilty Simpson & Apollo Brown - Dice Game

El-P - Cancer 4 Cure

I have that soundtrack, it was shit except for a few songs. Kanye song is the only one I remember off the top of my head.

Forgot the Dice Game, I'd have to re-listen again to properly rate, and I hate El-P rapping. Thanks for the suggestions.

I've got a top 3 for 2012....that was an absolutely HORRID year for hip-hop music and culture most definitely an all-time low for the artform.....

1.Apollo Brown/O.C.-Trophies
2.Nas-Life Is Good
3.Showbiz/A.G.-Mugshot Music

I heard the Killer Mike and thought it was 3.75 star material....not perfect but not bad...samething with Rick Ross-God Forgives, which had some good moments but also a few bad ones...Sean Price had a dope album cover but he was pretty boring as usual to me.....9th and Buckshot-The Solution was 3.75 stars, I liked more then a few moments on it but it was far from perfect......Guilty Simpson/Apollo was 3.50 stars to me....Guilty is no O.C., not by a longshot, and his vocals are what brought down this effort for me personally, Sadat X-Love, Hell Or Right was 3.75 stars, excellent lyrics/vocals but lacking in the production department....I'm looking forward to this year 2013 for hip-hop to make some type of major rebound from 2012.....

Top 10
Killer Mike- RAP Music
Brother Ali- Mourning In America
Nas- Life Is Good
Lupe Fiasco- F & L 2
Suga Free & Pimpin' Young- Thunder & Lightning
Reks- REBELutionary
Kendrick Lamar- Good Kid Maad City
Wu-Block
Saigon- GSNT 2
Vinnie Paz- God of the Serengeti

Top 20
Lecrae- Church Clothes
Public Enemy- Most Of My Heroes Still Don't Appear On No Stamp
Big Boi- Vicious Lies
Ab Soul- Control System
KRS-One- The BDP Album
De La Soul- First Serve
The Man With The Iron Fist
Public Enemy- The Evil Empire Of Everything
T.I- Trouble Man
Blu & Exile- Give Me My Flowers

Dope year for rap imo. I really question anyone's state of mind who only found 3-5 dope albums from that year. And that Trophies album was boring. I tried it out and forgot I was listening to it and in the middle of it I realized it was still playing. I'll give it another try though.

that KRS album on your list was a decent album I've got that one at 3.50 stars....the PE-Most Of My Heroes was a 3 star album to me...far below what they've done in the past...still haven't fully heard the De La yet also need to hear the other PE album- The Evil Empire....

2012 was a sub par year for hip-hop music Kev, get over it.....but in case your not fully convinced how many of those albums that appear on your list are bonafide 5 star classic hip-hop albums in your opinion?? do you have more then 4 on that list?? I came up with three from last year....Thank God it's 2013...a new year to hopefully hear some new shit.....cause 2012 was fuckin peanuts man.....

and that The Man With The Iron Fists-Soundtrack just further proves what I've been saying because when you have artists on a soundtrack like Corinne Bailey Rae, Frances Yip, Mabel John, The Black Keys, The Revelations And Tre Williams and I keep seeing this appearing on everyone's top ten hip-hop list of the year, yet not even one of those artists no matter how dope they may or may not be is a hip-hop artist, then I know that 2012 was a weak ass year....

now we're even listing soundtracks with alotta of hip-hop but not completely hip-hop on our top ten lists for hip-hop in a certain year.....slim pickings indeed.....

The two biggest "hip-hop"/black culture albums this year, Channel Orange and GKMC were fucking gay, literally and figuratively, but the young dumb black/white masses keep supporting this trash.

If you only judge the quality of albums on a "bonafide" 5 star rating or classic status, you will be disappointed 95% of the time or even more. How reaslistic is that man? I look at the overall quality of the year. Say if most albums I heard rate in the 3.75-4.5 area I consider that a good year. I don't sweat whether they are classic or not because that status only comes with time. You are setting your self up for disappointment every year then. No wonder you gripe about the new school so much if you are holding every album to that high of a standard.

Kev just so you know 3.75 is average to slight above average IMO....so if a majority of the albums coming out in a particular year are average or maybe slightly above average then how in the hell can that be considered a good year?? also alot of the albums with all the heads making hip-hop now were actually below average for 2012 IMO...I hold hip-hop music to the highest standards...why should I lower my expectations/standards because these so-called artists have?? sounds like bullshit to me man....

For me 3.25-3.5 is average. Average is not a bad rating. It means you are meeting expectations. It means when compared to a majority you fall right in line. thats not bad to me. So if I get more albums that range from 3.75-4.5 in one year to me that is a good year. On my scale 3.75 and above means above average to good. You looking for 5.0 rated albums evey year is just getting your hopes to high for nothing. Let the music play man and let time tell the talel. Even in the 80's and 90's I wasn't expecting every album to be classic nor did it have to be. Real classic albums are not as abundent as some make it seem when compared to the total amount of rap albums ever released. Sounds just very unrealistic to me have an outlook like that.

A lot of shit considered classic from back in the day doesn't hold up at all, it's just what people heard during their formative years/what magazines hyped so they hold it as the best.

I still don't see how anyone who truly likes rap can be feeling GKMC. Shit was turrribull

Kev outside of Nas-Life Is Good I don't see any albums released from 2012 that will be considered across the board classic from the majority of listeners...not even Trophies or Mugshot Music (both of which are personal classics for me by the way), but as you stated only time will tell, we'll check back in about 5 years and see...lol

Public Enemy-It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
BDP-By Any Means Necessary
EPMD-Strictly Business

I could keep going but I'll start with 5 from back in the dayz that are considered bonafide 5 star classic hip-hop albums and then you give me your take as too why they aren't 5 star classic in 2013, and if they aren't then which ones out now are?....oh and just in case I picked the wrong albums then give me your own list and then give me your reasons why they wouldn't be considered 5 star classics in 2013

I would consider the first four to be 5 star albums. 1999 is pretty close, if it had more original beats.

Just my opinion though. I don't mind if you don't agree.

I'm definitely more liberal with the 5 star rating than most here. I just figure I can listen to it front to back without skipping or getting bored. And I'm certain I'll be enjoying them for years to come. That's what a 5 means from me.

that Coup album was extremely dope, Grief Pedigree is way higher on my list (which is coming soon), i havent heard Airport 6 but I thought Bridges with Ayatollah was pretty weak. Mac Mall's album was really dope besides 1 track I didn't like, and Chino met most of the big expectations with his

Check out Airport 6 at that link, Slang. Way better than the Ayatollah album.

I listened to Ka yesterday and you're right... I'm underrating that album. I'll fix it after I give it some thought.

Ricanstruction is the only certified classic released during the turn of the decade.

Rip The Jacker-Evidence of Infinity is really growing on me. The more I hear it the more I recognize its brilliance. IMO opinion its only second to Ricanstruction right now. I like it when a rapper takes chances. at this point Bis has nothing to lose.

I just ordered that Coup album. If it sucks i'm holding Parker responsible. The samples sounded bizarre

My top 4 are still:

Roc Marc - Reloaded
Ka - Grief Pedigree
Killer Mike & El-P - Grief Pedigree
Sean P - Mic Tyson

Trophies, RICANstruction, Action Bronson & Alchemist are close by. Gangrene as well. I don't get the hate for that. Dice Game keeps getting better and better too

I need those Moka Onlys as well

I think Killer Mike may go down as a classic in the future. Maby Nas. Trophies and Ricanstruction have the potential to amongst underground circles

Hey rez, the Coup album is definitely something different... but it's the most inspired, creative and all-around-alive album in hip-hop recently.

I hope you like it, but my track record's pretty bleak vs popular opinion around here.

^^^ i'm not worried, i'm sure i'll like it.......the Coup are a safe bet. It sounded like a nice alternative from the usual boom bap......i probably wont like it as much as you just cos it sounds like it strays a bit far from the basics for it to have good replay value for me but i'm sure it will be quality music.

I also ordered that Airport 6 on bandcamp. I wanted to get the Ayatollah collab instead but I was a couple bucks short. I got Airport 4 and 5 already. I love Airport 4

The Brother Ali doesn't interest me at the moment for whatever reason

That Billy Woods is dope as usual

I like this list. That Large Pro is underrated. His best solo album to me. Still haven't heard that oddisee

Lundguist.......how is that Xzibit - Napalm? and how does it compare to his releases after Man Vs. Machine? I never heard anything after that one but if this is the best of his last few albums i might cop it

I used to be a big xzibit fan in the 90's. Those first two albums are classics to me and Restless was real big when it came out i couldn't escape it was played everywhere every party

It's dope, there are a few skip worthy tracks, mainly due the production or features, but overall it's cool. It's best of the 3 post Man Vs. Machine. Though Full Circle is pretty close.

@ D. Powell - The Evil Empire... was far better then Most of My Heros... IMO
