KRS-One post 2000 releases

I know some people that don't fuck with any of it after the 90's and think he's hurting his legacy like LL and some that think he has only 1 or 2 duds his whole career and rate his new stuff highly. What's your opinion?

To me he has nothing classic like his BDP records and first 2 solos but some ok material. He has a lot of material. I'm missing a decent amount but i'll rate what i got

2001 - Sneak Attack......average, i could never find a copy that wasn't edited, I don't know if one exists cos mine says explicit lyrics

2002 - Spiritual Minded

2002 - The Mix Tape........average

2003 - Kristyles.........good

2003 - D.I.G.I.T.A.L. Compilation...........dope

2004 - Keep Right.........weak

2006 - Life.........good

2007 - Hip Hop Lives with Marley Marl.........average

2008 - Advertures In Emceein...........average

2008 - Maximum Strength

2009 - Survival Skills with Buckshot..........dope

2010 - Back To The L.A.B. (Lyrical Ass Beating)

2010 - Meta-Historical with True Master

2011 - Godsville with Showbiz

2011 - Royalty Check with Bumpy Knuckles

2012 - The BDP Album

The ones I heard/have:

2001 - Sneak Attack- dope...one of his best solo albums to me but there is something off balance about it

2007 - Hip Hop Lives with Marley Marl.........average

2008 - Advertures In Emceein........... below average

2008 - Maximum Strength- forgettable but it does have one my fav trks from him on it..Hip Hop.

2009 - Survival Skills with Buckshot..........average


2010 - Meta-Historical with True Master- Most don't like this one but I really liked it. Average to above average

2011 - Godsville with Showbiz- this one has some bangers. I don't play it much so go figure.

2011 - Royalty Check with Bumpy Knuckles- this one was average. Not as good as it should have been but nice.

2012 - The BDP Album- One of my fav albums from last year. This one is easily above average to good for me.

2001 - Sneak Attack.....completely dope, not perfect but definitely dope (4.25 stars)

2002 - Spiritual Minded-this was a "different" kind of effort for Kris, his "gospel" record if you will (3 stars)...but hey he will go outside the proverbial box, that's for sure

2002 - The Mix Tape........average (2.75 to 3 stars)

2003 - Kristyles.........DOPE, production and lyrics carried this one through, as should all good hip-hop (4.50 stars)

2003 - D.I.G.I.T.A.L. Compilation...........DOPE, again production and lyrics were tight (4.50 stars)

2004 - Keep Right.........wack, this one outside of maybe one track which was the title track was a damn dud (1 star)

2006 - Life.........average, nothing really stood out on this one (2.5 stars)

2007 - Hip Hop Lives with Marley Marl.........above average IMO....not as good as the names shown should indicate, but better than average for these ears (3.50 stars)

2008 - Advertures In Emceein...........DOPE, this one had a few bangers on it, and the production was legit (4 stars)

2008 - Maximum Strength-didn't really like this one much...low replay value IMO...below average for me (2 stars)

2009 - Survival Skills with Buckshot..........DOPE as hell, Kris and Buck just going at it, I like the lyrics, I like the production and I believe if this one was made in the 90's it would've been classic material, but for this effort I got (4.25 stars)

2010 - Back To The L.A.B. (Lyrical Ass Beating)-this one was legit, above average (3.50 stars)

2010 - Meta-Historical with True Master- I did not like this effort at all...I actually thought it was pretty weak, and was so suprised that it was..(1.75 stars)

2011 - Godsville with Showbiz....DOPE, nice rebound off of that last effort with True Master....Showbiz blessed Kris with some hot ass production and Kris sounds energized on it.....(4.50 stars)

2011 - Royalty Check with Bumpy Knuckles- this one was just okay...it was missing some key ingredients to me.....again even though it contained some big names on it, I think if this one was made in the 90's it too could have a shot at immortality but alas (3 stars) sums it up for me

2012 - The BDP Album-just recently got this one and I thought it was very good....this had that vintage Kris sound, so I can see where he was going with it...(4 stars)

The Sneak Attack - 4.5

Spiritual Minded - 3.0

Prophets vs Profits (Mix Tape) - 4.0

Kristyles - 3.5

Keep Right - 4.0 (Something about this album that I really like)

Life - 4.0

Hip Hop Lives - 3.5 (Surprised by this one. Could have been better)

Nice to see the showbiz collab getting some good ratings. I was excited for that one but still haven't heard due to bad feedback. I'm gonna grab that cd

Same thing with the True Master collab. That was gonna be a definite buy but I heard nothing but bad things.

Are you guys copies of Sneak Attack edited as well? Does an explicit version exist or is it like Das EFX "Sraight Up Sewaside" and GZA "Legend Of The Liquid Sword"

Somthing is really speacial about Sneak Attack. Maybe itsthe timing of that album. Hip hop was drastically changing then so KRS switched up. That album had some of the best hooks ever. It has aged well.

Oops. Forgot to rate D.I.G.I.T.A.L. I have it at 4.0.

I have never found an uncensored copy of Sneak Attack. Not even on cassette. Still dope! Very highly recommended.

I re-listened to Sneak Attack. It wasn't average like I remembered. 4 stars, a bit above I got Next.

Re-listened to Adventures In Emceein, still pretty average to me, 3 - 3.5

I think the self-titled from '95 is my all time favorite, including the bdp albums

The ones I really like post 2000 are the Kristyles album and Survival Skills with Buckshot.

Return of the Boom Bap is dope as well.

From Criminal Minded to KRS-One it's nothing but classics. Some don't like Sex & Violence but that's probably my most played BDP album

The Sneak Attack - 3.5 or so

Spiritual Minded - 1.5-2, Ish was whack IMO

Prophets vs Profits (Mix Tape) - haven't played this in a long time; don't remember too much

Kristyles - 4ish; dopeness

D.I.G.I.T.A.L. - One of my favorite comps of all time... 4.5+

Keep Right- I'd say about a 3.5; sometimes I love it, other times I turn it off

Life - 3.25 because I never reach for it anymore

Hip Hop Lives - 4; this one's a little underrated IMO

Adventures in Emceein - 4.5+, my favorite Kris album post the classics

Maximum Strength - I originally gave this about a 4, I think. Haven't played it since

Survival Skills - little higher than 4; pretty dope

I got Tha Sneak Attack bout the time it came out and I liked it. Then I got Spiritual Minded as well, which left me lookin a bit like

I must of never got over it cos didn't get to checking anything else since.

Kris ain't afraid to take risks. Spiritual Minded does have some bangin' beats and pretty uplifting shit. It's not all about gospel rap (although a good portion of it is). It's really not a bad album if you listen to it with an open mind and get past the intro.
