Any smoothe fans? How do you rate Once Upon A Time In America?

It came out in 1996 it says on the back cover but I think it was early ’96 because I remember him having a hip hop quotable in the source, when it was legit, the year before for “Broken Language”. Like D. Powell said in the other thread, there was so much quality out at the time albums like this fell through the cracks and he seemed to just disappear after it.

I don’t consider this album a classic but I do think “Broken Language” is a classic song. If you haven’t heard that check it out. The album is at least 4.5 to me. Some of the tracks with singing hooks get skipped these days. Trigger Tha Gambler is featured on a few tracks and they are the better ones on here. DR Period produced the whole album and does a great job. It’s that hardcore mid nineties east coast feel that everybody loves. My favorite tracks are Broken Language, My Brother My Ace and Fuck What Ya Heard. I would rec this to fans of Blahzay Blahzay, Nine & M.O.P. and D.I.T.C. If you see it cheap pick it up because it’s out of print.

He has another album from a few years ago called Violentimes Day. I haven’t heard good things about it but I’m still interested for nostalgic reasons. If anybody has heard that one or know where I can buy it on cd let me know. He also formed a group with Ice-T and Trigger Tha Gambler but I don’t know if anything came from it. He was on the Danger Part 2 song from Blahzay Blahzay

4.5 sounds about right. I really liked this album, but there were some tracks I'd skip. Haven't listened to it in a minute, but I used to love Glocks on Cock, Neva Die Alone and Hustlin'. Aside from Broken Language, of course.

Never heard of Violentimes Day. If you come across it, you'll have to let me know how it is.

I still bump this album from time to time. 4 stars. "Broken Language" is a classic, no doubt.

You were supposed to know and i'd ask you

Glocks on cock is a favorite, don't know how I missed that. The best Smoothe Da Hustler song to me is his collab on Cloud 9

Make or Take is my favorite track from both artists.

And I know you were asking if anyone knew where to get a copy of Violentimes Day, I was just saying, if somebody does know and you track it down, that I'm interested in knowing how it is.

^^^ I was just being a dickhole myestro

I can see it available on mp3 but i'm not buying digital music. Might listen to the samples. I just saw there is a Violentimes Day 2 as well. I think both were cd-r

Lack of material from him and having listened to it for 15+ years, plus lack of similar sounding hip hop since then has bumped my rating up a bit no doubt about it.

In '96 this was about 3.5 - 4 to me. Compared to other music released that year: Ironman, Hell On Earth, Muddy Waters, Nocturnal, Illadelph Halflife, Wrath Of The Math, Makaveli, Soul On Ice, Here To Save You All, The Resurrection, Ridin Dirty, Cloud 9, Reaonable Doubt... the list goes on... it doesn't stack up
