PostSubject: Favourite Non Hip Hop Albums   Mon 27 Jul 2009, 1:34 pm

Favourite albums from other genres?

Been listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon today and it got me thinking

Off the top of my head some of mine are:

Dark Side of the Moon

Powerage - ACDC

Hyperbollicsyllabicsesquedaylimystic - Isaac Hayes (Public enemy sampled the title track)

Ive listened to Thriller more since MJs death as well and even though its more like a collection of singles than a cohesive album its great too

Been re-visiting this a bunch lately:

Ween is probably my favorite band of all time. And they put on the best live show I ever witnessed.

Some other favorites would be Pink Floyd, Green Day (even though the new one is a bit lame), Red Hot Chili Peppers (up there close to Ween), Weezer, Beck (haven't liked his more recent work), Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Metallica, Chemical Brothers, Bob Dylan. I could list them all day, but I'll stop there.

There are way too many other genres to name.

I've been playing a lot of Phish lately, though. Toss Incognito, A Girl Called Eddy, Counting Crows, Massive Attack, Dave Matthews Band, Lit, Northeast Groovers, Sublime, and Roy Ayers in the mix too...

IMO yeah. It's a close call because they're both great albums but I have to give the edge to War Stories because it was more cohesive. Psyence Fiction covered so many different styles of music and had so many different people contributing that it felt more like a compilation album than one cohesive peace of work. War Stories was more unified that's why I enjoy it more. But Rabbit In Your Headlights is my absolute favorite song of all time by them.

I have actually. I've listened to Phantom Limb and I thought it was pretty good. Took me a while to get used to the lack of bass though.

I actually haven't listened to War Stories yet because a lot of people have told me that the group fell off right after Psyence Fiction. I'll definitely check it out. And Rabbit In Your Headlights is also my favorite track from Psyence Fiction.

fuckin-a right...going to see them 2morrow nite in Baltimore...fuckin' stoooooked......as it is their a band their plays a live show every blue moon.....

I have actually. I've listened to Phantom Limb and I thought it was pretty good. Took me a while to get used to the lack of bass though.

with their shredding guitarist and excellent drummer, i dont even miss the bass...although it takes a minute to set my adjustments in my car when i put in their cd..

BTW, the show was fuckin insane...

Deftones-White Pony
Korn-Issues

are both those bands' worst albums by far IMO. I don't listen to much other than hip hop anymore but I was a big rap-metal head in high school (go figure, right?) and out of either of their catalogues those are...awful. In my opinion.

The only albums I really spin that aren't hip hop are

Damien Rice-O
Cold-13 Ways To Bleed Onstage

both albums are front to back skipproof classics.

Ignore the first part of this video, it's some weird shit, but this is probably my favorite song by them

Nero is off base calling White Pony horrible, it's not as good as Around the Fur, but it's still a dope CD.

Actually I think it is because N3RO claimed to be a big rap-metal fan in high school that he doesn't like that album. It was a big change from their previous sound, and didn't resemble the rock that other bands such as Korn were making popular at the time.
