The midwest lineup just shows that a lot of those involved aren't educated on Vakill.

And that Common's fans are living in the past.

Vakill hasn't accomplished nearly as much as Common in his career.

To be fair, he's about 50/50. He hasn't dropped anything over 3 stars in damn near 10 years. Four flops in a row adds up to washed up.

"Be" is damn near 5 stars...

Yeah, Be, Finding Forever are both dope... don't know where this hate comes from.

Universal Mind Control is the only Common album I'd give less than 3 stars. I have both EC and FF at 3.5, and Be at 4.5.

Vakill is only two albums into his career, and while both are good, neither is a Resurrection, and we don't know how the rest of his career is going to go, how he's gonna sound 8 albums in.

I disagree man....you gotta take out Monch, GZA and Ghostface and add Biggie, Cool J, and Black Thought and then you have a definitive EAST coast list IMO....

an EAST coast list that includes those three couldn't be beat IMO

Wow I actually co-sign Jason here except that I've got Be at 3.75 to 4 stars and Finding Forever at 4.25 stars.....Common deserves to be right where he is at IMO...he's one of the best to ever do it outta the Midwest...IMO!

You're CRAZY dude. Be is a BANGER. I've got that at 4.25 stars and FF at 4 stars. That said, I agree about him being one of the best from the Midwest, and a Top 20-30 MC of all time.

Be to me is not Common's best work by far...it's almost looked at the same way that The Blueprint is looked at by Jay-Z and that's not his best work either IMO....I thought Finding Forever was a better effort...I thought Kanye used even stronger beats on that effort..

as for Cool J of course we aren't going to agree if you don't think he should be listed on the top 10 of all-time east coast list...if Biggie should be on it, then Cool J should be on it above him EASILY....and I agree that Biggie should be on it...in terms of my personal list Biggie is number 3 and Cool J is number 5, but if we are talking about the GOATS from the east of all-time then I think Cool J is ahead of him too....but they both deserve to be on the list...

I don't think Be is Common's BEST effort, that honor goes to Resurrection. But I do think it's one of his better efforts. I really like Go, Testify, The Food, The Corner, Faithful, and Real People. Not many skip tracks on it for me.

Finding Forever was a dope album too, better than most give it credit for, but I slightly prefer Be overall. After songs like The People, I Need You, The Game, and Southside, the quality dips a bit. I still dig it though, and I agree that Kanye's production was dope on both albums.

Those ratings looks about right to me.

If I remember correctly, I gave EC a 3 or 3.5 and Be a 4.5, but neither is living up to those ratings in hindsight.

I'm sure there are more albums than just those two that we would disagree on. It's not like I didn't listen to them. Hell, I even paid full for them both.

And, if you look at the scores I give his first 4, you can't really say I'm not a fan. I just don't like his last 4. He used to be my favorite emcee, hands down.

Gotta say I'm with Parker on both those albums. Both were just plain boring IMO. Be was better, but neither peak over 3.5 stars IMO. The Common Sense period is the only Common that I bump anymore.
