Way more off base than Hell's Winter. Dope though.

His flow is bananas on this...good crap though. 4 stars for 5 dope (if very unorthodox and not very hip hop) tracks.

What do you mean? Is it rock/metal influenced? I would guess it'd be dark. Or is it just really abstract?

I'd call it really abstract...there's no hooks to speak of (except the ep's standout, "80's Again) and his lyrics are on some Aesop Rock type crap.

Still dope though...too bad Mu Tao passed so we can't get some real hip hop from dude.

Alright cool. Honestly though, these comments make me want to pass on this one...lol...the real abstract stuff does not appeal to me as much nowadays. And I didn't love Cage to begin with, despite "Hell's Winter" being a very good record.

This is really nothing like Aesop Rock's brand of lyricism. It's just heavily Indie Rock influenced, of the lame "Emo"-ish variety, both musically and lyrically. Don't like it at all.

Hell's Winter was a great album, it's definitely sounding like no worthy follow-up is coming.

ehh I wasn't really feeling it. Yea its like a progressive rap EP(that's how cage describes it)
Hell's winter was a huge change from Movies, and this new EP is way different from Hell's Winter. On a few of the songs his delivery sounds very basic and repetitive in my opinion. Ill still check out Depart From Me, but I'm not expecting anything big like his 1st 2 cd's. I mean cmon, he even said in a interview he's making music for a 12 year old going through hard times.

What I meant by the Aesop comment was that Cage is going for more abstract rhymes instead of his more typical straightforward stuff. This is a huge leap from his more easily understood metaphors on Hell's Winter. Truthfully I don't think Depart From Me will be this weird because he's gotta know who he fanbase really is and if RJD2 or El-P did even a couple beats on this album then he's gotta have some more hip hop sounding stuff. I've got a wait and see approach.
