PostSubject: The greatest rappers to quit the game   Fri 16 Oct 2009, 7:32 am

Some may have quit or just fell off but they had mad potential and seemed to dissapear in their prime.

Prime Minister Pete Nice--This dude is nice as hell. If he kept rhyming El-P wouldn't have had a career. Not dissing El-P but their styles are so similar that if I let a new jack hip hop head listen to 3rd Bass and told him Pete Nice was El-P back in the day he'd most likely beleive me. Hence the name Pete Nice and El-"P". Matter of fact I was just listening to the Cactus LP and was so stunned by Pete's lyrics it motivated me to make this thread.

Top Quality-man this guy was very stylish, I wonder what happened to him? This guy was born to be a hip hop artist.

Blahzay Blayzay. No frontin' on these cats. Outloud had a deep flow that was backed by PF Cuttin'. Outloud was the man though. He wouldve gotten nicer and been an alternative to BIG.

Leaders of the New School-Charlie Brown,Dinco D, and Milo in the dance would have been go0d enough to give us a LONS record. Just get Busta to do like 3 songs.

Lord Have Mercy More--Did he quit??

Good picks. I was just listening to Pete Nice release from 93, i forgot the name but its dope production from the beatnuts. Blahzay Blahzay was near classic to me

Good picks, except that I don't think Outloud would have been as dope as Biggie. That said, I agree with Red in that Blahzay's debut was a near classic.

I also like LONS's debut better than any Busta solo album. The only one that comes close is The Coming.

It won't. No other high profile rapper has been able to stay retired after announcing it so I doubt Face will either.

"Digable Planets (they need a reunion album!)"

They're having a reunion show in Cleveland in November, I think. I might head over there and check it out.

I've heard that. I know they are still somewhat active, so why not hit the studio? I think they'll make another one, one day.

No kidding. "Rooftop Soundcheck" is one of my most played hip-hop albums of all time. In fact, I may give it top 25 if it ever comes through the top 100 albums thread. I actually got the album over "Illmatic" in my 1994 list. Blasphemy to some....but I love that shit...

I'd honestly put Dred Scott's debut above it, as well as Outkast's debut, and The Coup's "Genocide & Juice". 1994 was killer.

You like that first one most, huh? It's one of my favs too. I loooove "Dedication To Bambaataa" too. The whole damn thing is smokin' though.

Chip Fu may rap a little bit. But I was talking about Fu-Schnickens...the group. I love both of their records. I thought they could have been on to bigger and better things. And yeah, the Justice System doesn't seem like your style, but for it's style, it's pretty much a perfect record.

What does Justice System sound like? Heard of the album but never heard the album?

Is it basically a freestylish album with jazz beats? (based off that one track)

Its a full jazz group with 2 MCs. It sounds pretty awesome. If you like the Roots or groups of the like, you might enjoy them. The MCs aren't half bad either.

If you want to check out a better female emcee, check out Tiye Phoenix "Half Woman Half Amazin'" from this year. The Jean Grae album is dope, but not this dope IMO. I think Kev would cosign.
