PostSubject: To Beat or Not To Beat   Wed 23 Dec 2009, 10:34 am

I think it was N3R0 who made the comment about Skyzoo not being able to rap on beat(which is very true). Then there are some artists where you know that will never be a problem such as Eminem for instance. So who is the best at riding the beat and who's the worst when it comes to rapping offbeat?

AZ usually is very good at riding the beat

Tech N9ne's good at flowing with the beat

RZA raps off beat a lot but it works for him a lot of the time

Even when you do, when she's on the rag most of them won't give it to you.

But as for the topic, E-40 rhymes off beat quite a bit. That and his choppy flow are the reasons why I dislike him.

Rakim is probably the best at riding a beat.

40 Water doesn't rap off beat, fool. You're just salty cuz I called you out on Skyzoo. He raps off beat more often than the whiteboys I listen to. Say somethin!

And don't get it twisted, Terry, Eminem used to rap off beat quite a bit but now he just puts a lot more effort into his recordings to make sure that shit doesn't happen again. And as far as Silkk the Shocker goes, about 75% of No Limit mc's couldn't ride a beat if it was a car they were already in.

40 Water does rap off beat. His flow is one of the sloppiest in hip-hop and I don't give a fuck what you think about Skyzoo. He's dope IMO and he's on beat most of the time.

And Kool Keith pretty much made it okay to rap off beat didn't he? Like that whole Wu style Slang gives a pass to (go figure, lol), the Spankmaster invented that. I've said a million times that Keith (and a lot of Wu MC's) is really wack and if a new mc came on trying to do what he does we'd call him the shittiest hip hop artist of all time.

40 does rap off beat more than on and I agree that Em was not always the best beat rider until later in his carrer.

I disagree....his flow adds just as much rhythm as the beat does IMO.

Indeed. Y'all are missing what makes E-40 so dope if you actually think he's off beat.

Oh, I agree 100% about Em. It's like night and day with him, but it rarely happens with him now.

Jay-Z normally is on beat with his skills
Biggie as well
Big Daddy Kane and LL Cool J flow over most beats pretty damn well
Q-Tip flows pretty well over most beats
CL Smooth flows over most beats
Sadat X and Puba can flow over anything too

Off-beat styles go to
Kool Keith
KRS-One
E-40
Too Short
Treach at times
DMX can be a little off at times too

DMX does that whole "Ima put the rhyme just a lil off the 1 but not quite on the 2 but Ima not say anything til the next bar starts so no one will notice I'm actually off beat ruff ruff WHAT" thing that tires on me from time to time.

I'm not his biggest fan, but I always thought Ludacris was great at riding a beat.

I'm wondering how some of you define "offbeat", though.

KRS-One is the best off beat rapper in the game IMO. Masta Ace is a close second.
