I have seen people say someone does not belong on the list because they only have local classics and they are not well known enough for top 100 status. those arguments have been used by countless members of this forum to keep talent off the list. I could use those same arguments when voting for this guy, to bad i have acctually heard some of his music. No. 1 Suspect, All About Comin' Up, The Story of My Life..... Sorry i still gotta go with neither.

Go fuck yourself N3R0, this coming from the guy who had a thread out on him talking about how shitty his rap taste is. Not to mention the disrespect you've shown New York artists. You're the fucking hypocritical assclown.

As for Kev, I've heard the dude before. I've heard a number of his songs. He's aight but not Top 100 material. You can't criticize me for that any more than I can criticize you for voting neither on Special Ed after you never heard an album of his.

Well put KJ, and still didn't show any knowledge of the dude that put Memphis rap on the map. Good call. All you have are personal attacks and limited hip hop knowledge of the golden age (and even that is made redundant by D.Powell and yes, Cory). So when you find something give me a holler and maybe we can have a civilized discussion. Til then, maybe you should look up the word hypocrite. The day you contribute something to a discussion is the day I stop giving you shit.

Not really the same because Special Ed is more popular mainstream wise than Pat so you knew I was truly familiar with him but Pat is more obsure/local so I was just wondering what on your own did you really check from him. Like was you up on him back in the day?

If you look up the word "dickrider" in the urban dictionary, I'm sure your picture will be posted there.

As for my personal attacks, if you'll get off my dick then maybe you won't recieve them.

In your book it's ok for someone else to vote neither on someone without hearing an album from them, but if I do it it's a fuckin crime. Shut the fuck up!

Oh and BTW, 13 others voted neither as well. Are they all hypocrites too???

I don't have anything in for you dude. SRP was the one that wanted to you come to Steve's first forums and I said I wouldn't give you any shit because you didn't wanna get fucked with. Then you get here and are all fuckin high and mighty, that shit is annoying. Seriously you bitch at Cory for contributing but what do you say other than "Haystak sucks, Andre Nickatina sucks, Cage sucks, Sandman sucks, Pastor Troy sucks, blah blah blah". All you do is project at other people for not liking female mc's or whatever stupid ass reason you have but when people question you on your LIMITED hip hop knowledge (yeah, LIMITED, you know about 5 years worth of knowledge for in a 50 mile radius and act like you're the godfather of hip hop) you just attack whatever artist they give props to that's not real popular. You're the Fox News of these forums, bro. I just like to call you out on it.

My overall hip-hop knowledge TRUMPS yours, assclown.

I've listened to MC's that others have shouted out here. Some I like, some I don't.

It seems like it's a crime here to criticize people like Royce Da 5'9'', K-Rino, Haystak, Cage, and the like but it's ok to talk shit about Biggie, Run DMC (whom Powell called you out on dissin), KRS-One, Nas, and other random legends.

You're nothing but Steve and SRP's puppet. Steve can say that Haystak sucks balls and you're ok with it, but if I say it you give me shit. Seriously, just FUCK OFF!!

No one said that. It's fine not to like a certain artist, or their music, but when you downplay their skills and whatnot that's when people get defensive. Also, when you say something about some underground favorite of someone, 90% of the time you get a response asking why you think that way. Whereas if I say "I don't think Ready To Die is classic", I'm called a hater on the spot.

Your hip hop knowledge based on one region in a very limited time frame trumps multi-faceted multi-regional hip hop knowledge? Of course it does.

Again, I know I have to type real slow to get my points across to you, but here it is once again, FOR THE RECORD. You're an elitist snob. My only criticisms of golden age artists are that they are simple in regards to what's happening now, and you freak out and say everybody sucks post-91. Pathetic.

Cory, what I said was KJ's knowledge is redundant and unnecessary because you have Powell have more knowledge then him so he's not needed here.

N3RO I've said this to Pounds and I'm saying it to you too....it's a very simple question man?? what is so complex about todays artists?? you've got to understand the full meaning of the word COMPLEX to fully answer that question...I've heard this before here that the golden age artists lyrically and production wise are less "complex" than their followers and I'm still trying to see the complexity of today's artists??? I mean the same words being spoken in 1989 are still being used today right?? Now I will admit the style of beats has changed but certainly not for the better and anyone with ears can hear that unless these no-name producers that are out now are better than Pete Rock and Marley Marl and Large Professor and Preemo and RZA and Da Bomb Squad and Dr.Dre and Sir Jinx and Dilla and I think you get the full picture....you know what give me some tracks to listen too so I can discover this "complexity" man...real talk!

Powell to even compare the rhyme patterns of Eminem to ANYBODY is simply ridiculous. To compare Primo's complicated samples BUT overtly and obviously simple song arrangement to the producers of today is equally as ludicris, but I digress. Regardless of what I show you, you'll only find what you want.

In terms of the complexity question. I think there is more nuance, dynamics, and variation in basically all facets now. Beats, lyrics, flow/delivery. That's what it seems like to me.

Even within a single song, things aren't just moving along one level. Basically, I think things have become less rigid, in terms of production.

And in terms of flow/delivery, it's become more free form, like jazz, as opposed to the steady structure. You get more variances in the way rappers are reacting to the beat, in the emotive qualities of their delivery.

Lyrically, rappers have taken that poetic technique and moved it further. More vivid and unique imagery, more imagination with the way words are put together, more skillful use of metaphor, and broader range of topics approached, and ways in which they're approached.

I kind of see where Powell is coming from...the rhyme styles have not got more complex at all it's just the talent level is on such one long common line that above average rappers stand out more now. In the 90's styles were complex and new and evolved from the styles of the 80's big time but now you got only two main catergory of rappers that is monotone slow flow or rapid/swing quick style.

I do agree the beats and what a song can be have evolved big time though.

rap now is not more complex especially when it comes to the beats lol. Rap now has fallen victim to overproduction and the music doesnt even sound natural to me. The beats back in the early 90's had an "organic" natural sound to them and were layered much better imo. Beats now are bland, sound too digitalized, the drum patterns are digitally made more and more often and it sounds fake, heavy synths end up drowning out beats. Beats early on, esp. the early 90's were much more complex, nowadays anyone can make a beat and producers are getting lazier and lazier with preset sounds and heavy synths that a lot of the art in creating a beat like a musical composition has been lost.

LMAOOOOOOO!

what the FUCK is so complex about Eminem??

is that the greatest example for complex rhyme schemes? Eminem is the best you've got??

cause that certainly is nowhere near good enough...Eminem did Stan and Nas did Rewind where he's rhyming an entire story in REVERSE....now that's some creative shit...but so is a song by KRS-One called Hold from '95....go listen to that one and hear the word schemes my friend....and calling Preemo anything less than one of the GREATEST hip-hop producers to ever do it is BLASPHEMY! Plain and simple man....it's almost like heads trying to diss Michael Jackson's performing ability to me, it's just BLASPHEMY...it's sounds worst than stupid to me...lol

None of those things had anything to do with complex. All you said was "beats in the early 90's were much more complex" but really they weren't. Were people able to adjust the tempo of a song mid-song in the early 90's? You can be nostalgic all you want, and that's fine, but don't act like you can just throw out a word like "complex" and have it mean something when the proof is self evident.

Of course people were able to adjust the tempo of a song in the mid 90's.....LMAO!!

you really believe that Pete, Preemo,RZA and Marley for examples weren't able to do that?

these dudes and others like them were able to do whatever the fuck they wanted in terms of hip-hop production, they owned this shit....they were the Masters and in 2009 they still are...fuck nostaglia, this shit right here is FACT!

Of course it is Powell. Show me an example of a producer doing what Swizz Beatz did on "Twisted Heat" before he did it.

You set the polls to stay open for three days, right? I always give people that time to get all the votes in. So, I'll post the final top 100 in a couple days, once that time has passed.

And you're obviously missing the point of my post. Did I ever say hip hop was "better"? I just said MORE COMPLEX. Powell you're just being ignorant to be ignorant right now. If you were capable of engaging in a serious conversation about these subjects I'd continue and I know you take hip hop VERY seriously but avoiding questions doesn't help your case. You have to understand that some new school cats (myself included) also take hip hop seriously and get just as upset when the social security set starts dissing on the new shit as when some young'uns diss the classics, got it?

Hip hop is not more complex now this shit is just over populated and there is no quality control. And like I said earlier as a whole most artist are so average now that a above average rapper/producer or over hyped rapper/producer can gain major fans and props now. I can only see a evolution in a lot (not all) of the beat making and song structure's.

So what you're saying is you don't really care, basically. You don't care enough about your opinion to back it up. Thanks for making my argument for me. You're wrong, argument over.

Bullshit. You're acting like he said Primo wasn't worthy of licking Swizz Beat's toilet bowl. All he asked was about a specific production technique, which if it's so laughable to even ask about, should be easy for you to answer.

Kev, I'm not being a dick, but COMPLICATED...do you know what it means?

Since you guys are clearly unable to seperate bias from fact these conversations are pointless, which makes me ask AGAIN WHY ARE YOU EVEN ON HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR OPINIONS OTHER THAN YOUR OWN

I think Swizz Beats being included in a subject of producers like Marley Marl, RZA, Preemo, and Pete Rock who are the producers that I brought up as examples of some of the finest to ever do hip-hop production and then you come back with SWIZZ BEATS as your shining example of "complexity" all I can do is laugh at you man....

LMAOOOOOOOOOO!

your funny!

no one is calling wack ass swizz beats better then the legends, but it is possible for him to have more going on in his beats and for them to be more complex without it being good.

When it comes to rhyming i dont think new rappers are anywhere close to what the rappers from the 90s where doing in terms of rhyme complexity. But overall i dont think rappers from the 80s had the most complex rhyme patterns and style, they where much more straight forward in there approach on the mic. So i would say rappers from today have a more complex style, but Powell understand it in no fucking way makes me think these new rappers are making better music then the legends. I dont think that is what this is about

You're sidestepping the point, yet again, with increasingly irrelevant shit. I can't believe you had the nerve to call someone else hard headed earlier.
