5 star classic or not #1

In an attempt to create something new, I'm going to begin started topics that will center on a particular that many may say is a 5 star classic, so feel free, obviously, to contribute your thoughts. The first album to be selected is.....

Jay-Z- In My Lifetime Vol. 1

Not a classic. 4.5 star album at most.

Not a classic. But I've never been a fan.

Not a classic. ONe of my favorites from Jay, though.

Also, you should make a poll for these.

Good LP, but I don't really think that it's classic status.

I feel ya, I sometimes skip Lucky Me but I can stand to listen to it. I Know What Girls Like is unlistenable though. It makes Change Clothes sound like Can't Knock The Hustle.

Love the album, but there are some wack (yes, wack) tracks on it, IMO...

I disagree. I Know What Girls Like is the only unlistenable track on it IMO. Some people hate on Sunshine but I think it's a good song.

It's no worse than Jay's 5th best album IMO. 4.5 stars.

This is a personal classic but its not a 5 star album at all. I have it at 4.5 or so. There are no wack trks on this album sorry buddy.

I Know What Girls Like is the weakest trk on the album but not str8 wack imo. Some of Jay's most personal lyrics are on this album and it really connected with me.

I understand what you said. You made it sound as if this album has multiple wack songs on it. That's what I disagree on.

This album has multiple wack songs on it. And "Sunshine" is not one of them IMO.

I agree especially on a personal level but when speaking on a more public level it gets tricky.

i agree, but i feel like most people here speak on personal levels. I think me and you have similar ratings where we can rank albums 4.5 and they will be personal classics, whereas 5 stars are reserved for only the best of the best

Albums without flaw > albums with flaw.

Pretty simple.

You'd be amazed at some of the albums I consider personal classics. As a matter of fact, this album (IMLV1) is one of them.

But I consider 2 or 3 songs to be skip material....and, yes, Sunshine is one of them.

So, speaking in general terms and not personal...it's not a 5 star classic (name of the thread, remember?)...

I agree with Norf.

"Sunshine" is a terrible song, and "I Know What Girls Like" is straight up wack. Everything else is good to great with 'City Is Mine' being classic. 4.5 stars for me.

Agreed. I'm not getting how people miss that...

4.25 stars for this effort from Jay...it's a very good album with just a few disgusting moments..lol

so IMO no it is not a 5 star classic!
