PostSubject: Is Donovan McNabb getting a raw deal?   Fri 02 Apr 2010, 3:29 pm

Donovan McNabb seems to be getting shopped around despite being the face of the Eagles franchise for well over a decade.

Now granted, I'm no Eagles fan but I hate to see a black athlete get disrespected despite being everything that's right about the NFL. He's a great player, a respectful guy, and a proven leader. Everything you'd want in a quarterback.

Sure, he hasn't won a Super Bowl ring as of yet, but all of that can't be blamed entirely on him. The Eagles have historically not had a good running game other than Brian Westbrook (who was waived) and their recievers have often been suspect save for Terrell Owens and DeSean Jackson.

Personally, I think management is fucking with him because he's black. Denver never did this shit to John Elway, and it took him until the final two years of his career to win a Super Bowl and he probably wouldn't have ever won if it wasn't for Terrell Davis. Miami never considered dealing Dan Marino. San Diego never wanted to part with Dan Fouts. The list goes on and on.

If he ends up getting traded to the Raiders (which I'm sure Acrid would love to see happen, LOL) I personally think it'd be the most idiotic trade since the Red Sox dealt Babe Ruth to the Yankees for the rights to a musical. The thing that bothers me most about this is that the Eagles are trying to deny that their is a frontrunner in this sweepstakes. What they should be denying is that they're trying to trade the man in the first damn place.

Great QB's aren't easy to come by. McNabb is a HOF caliber QB. While trading him would make things easier for my Giants in the NFC East, I'd still frown upon it because a black man who's playing the game the right way is being disrespected for his years of service and outstanding play. Do they honestly feel that Kevin Kolb is the answer?? Please! Dude only has 2 games of NFL experience. He beat a bad team, and put up decent stats against a good team but still got blown the fuck out. He's not the answer, and neither is Micheal Vick.

So what do y'all think sports fans, chime in.

smh @ "Personally, I think management is fucking with him because he's black."

There have been talks of McNabb being traded since before the playoffs started.

And it's bullshit all the same. Like I said, there are plenty of white QB's who never won Super Bowls and they were never touched, especially when their backups are unproven and there are holes elsewhere on the team.

Think of it this way: The Eagles have had McNabb for how long? And they haven't won a ring. The rest of the team changed throughout McNabb's career, but the QB stayed the same. Maybe it's time to try switching that position.

Not the mention the fact that he's EXTREMELY injury prone...

1. Donovan McNabb>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick

2. Yes the team has changed, but not always for the better. They got rid of Terrell Owens, They got rid of Brian Dawkins, they got rid of Brian Westbrook, and they haven't filled those positions with as good of players since.

Their overall defense has been less than stellar this past season as well, giving up tons of yardage in the second half of 2009, which is why they got beat three times by the Dallas Cowboys.

I think it would be a disservice to the man to trade him when their isn't a better option out there, especially to a team like the Raiders. Basically they're saying "We don't want you anymore, so we're throwing you to the wolves to make sure you don't succeed elsewhere so that we don't look like the idiots that we really are after doing so."

1. McNabb has had plenty of opportunities, and he hasn't delivered a ring. His skin color is of zero importance here.

2. How do you know McNabb is better than Kolb? Sure McNabb is proven, but you don't know he is better.

3. They have a surplus of QB's. McNabb is the oldest and probably the most valuable. By trading McNabb, they get younger, they acquire more picks, and/or they acquire a top 3 CB in the NFL.

4. The NFL is a business, and why shouldn't the Eagles maximize their opportunities?

5. The only thing the Eagles have done wrong is handle McNabb with less class than he deserves. If it's time to move on, i can understand that, but mcNabb has done too much for the franchise, the team, and the community. He doesn't deserve to be left in limbo like he is.

1. See the points I made above. Jaws never won a ring either but was treated better than McNabb. They didn't deal him until his skills were diminished, that hasn't happened with McNabb and the race thing is hard to get past knowing that fact.

2. Until proven otherwise, McNabb is better than Kolb. You don't deal a proven leader in favor of a guy with only two NFL starts. McNabb is no less than a Top 10 QB, possibly Top 5.

3. I understand that, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Just tweak it a bit. McNabb is the best player on the team, and dealing him would be basically rebuilding.

4. Again, how are you maximizing by dealing a Top 10 QB? Great QB's are hard to come by these days and he's the greatest the Eagles have had in their history. The Eagles have failed to build around him, that's why they've yet to win a ring. The best team they had was in 2004 when they lost to the Pats in the SB.

5. That was the majority of the point I was making in the first place. He definitely deserves more respect and class. He's everything that's right about the NFL, and should be handled with more class and dignity.

1. Jaws was handled by a different regime. You can't compare the two. it's apples and oranges.

2. How is Kolb going to prove himself with McNabb on the team? Kolb did a fine job in his two starts last year. He deserves a chance.

3. The goal of every NFL team is to win a superbowl. McNabb hasn't gotten it done. In essence, it is broken.

4. you are maximizing it by getting a top 3 corner back if the deal him to the Raiders while not sacrificing stats with Kolb.

5. McNabb does deserve more respect, but to say he's being treated poorly because he's black is a tad bit extreme. If you had a white QB under Reid's guidance that was handled better, i may give it more consideration, but we really don't know how Reid and their GM would handle a white QB. So until then, The racial aspect seems unfounded.

I see a bunch of great points being made by everybody regarding Donovan, but honestly as a GIANTS fan...their interest is always first for me...with that in mind I would LOVE to see Kolb start next year and have to say hello to Kenny Phillips and Antrell Rolle..."Hello Kevin and how the hell are you today"? "and Kolb has just thrown his 5th interception of the game and the GIANTS win 34-3, and the eagles slide further along towards 4-12 with their 6th straight loss"....

DAMN thats sounds good to my ears

Hey Philly PLEASE trade Donovan in favor of good ol' Kevin Kolb....it'll be the greatest move you guys have made since??? well since that franchise is ringless, I'm not really sure..lol...but go ahead and make that move for the love of New York...please!

Valid point. Now would you still stick by that statement if he wasn't black. Not trying to be an asshole but just wondering.

Unless McNabb wins a ring, I don't see him as a Hall of Famer. his numbers are easily above average, but he's never won a superbowl or MVP. Also, he's never been considered the best player at his position at any point in his career. He's been a great player, but he's not an all time great player. Sorry!!!!!!!!

That would be fine IF i only said McNabb has never won a superbowl. However, i didn't say that, right? Marino HAS won an MVP. He WAS considered the best at his position at one point in time. Lets not even compare the records he owns/owned. McNabb will never be in the same league as Marino.

Jim Kelly LOST 4 Super Bowls and got in. Fran Tarkenton LOST 3 Super Bowls and got in. Warren Moon never even reached a Super Bowl and got in. I'd say McNabb has easily had as good of a career as those guys if not better.

Based on Warren Moon's NFL career, I don't think he deserves to be in the HOF, but if you look at his entire body of work, he probably belongs in the HOF. I've never been a Kelly fan, and i personally don't think he belongs although 4 Superbowls is 4 Superbowls. I understand the precedent has been set, and under those precedents, McNabb has a legit gripe to be in the HOF. I just don't think he deserves to get in

Is McNabb a HOFer? If I was one of the voters, as of today, he wouldn't get my vote...

Is he getting a raw deal? Terry hit it spot on, IMO. The only thing raw here is the lack of class. Everything else smells normal to me...

Side note...Illedelph is notorious for turning on it's own players. City, fans, management, etc...once the sentiment becomes sour, your days are numbered.

Yeah, that's basically my opinion on McNabb. I do think he has a chance to make it based on previous QB's inducted though.

Well, it looks like this saga is over. Adam Shefter is reporting that McNabb has been traded to the Redskins.

I find this hilarious... no fucking logic to it. Trade a franchise QB to a weak division rival for next to nothing... now Washington offense will have some life to it and you are stuck with Kolb who may not pan out at all.

I swear the Tony Romo situation probably made them think McNabb was expendable...

Kolb is the man set to lead the team right now.

I'll say this much, he's an upgrade from Campbell. That said, it could be Peyton Manning or Drew Brees putting on the burgundy and gold, but it won't make a bit of difference if they spend half the game on their back. The O-Line needs fixing.

As far as the hate (boy, you guys are eager smh), I'll just say this. New coach. New system. New management. New players. Can we just wait and see?

It's not like we broke the bank to get him. Relax.

Damn...

smh. When a rival team does anything good, it's only natural to hate. For example, the Spurs beat the Lakers, and that's good for the Suns, but I'm still pissed that they won.

I'm not sure why people are saying they didn't give up much to get him. They gave up a high 2nd round pick(37th overall) for an injury plagued 33 year old QB. Plus if McNabb is the player they think he is, they will lose a 3rd rounder next year. They gave up plenty IMO. I personally wouldn't have done it. They are not in a position win now, and by the time they are in a position to win, McNabb may not be able to lead them there due to age and injury. Just my thoughts.

Yes, you have more picks, but that's not really an excuse to overpay for him. I'm not sure how you'd define "breaking the bank", but they definitely gave up too much IMO. The Eagles got the better value in the trade.

I would say send Campbell to Oakland to compete for a starting position..but he'd look like the same Campbell behind our horrendous O Line as well...

I would agree for the most part. however, you are giving up the opportunity to get one of the top 37 players in the draft in order to get a player who may or may not be around in 4 years due to age and injury. They are a rebuilding team on offense, and they do not have a huge window with McNabb. If McNabb was a few years younger, i could understand it more, but i just don't understand it from the Redskins perspective now.

the way I see it is this - Jason Campbell might be good or horrible, but he's not great - so with a QB in that situation you need to provide him with a decent o-line, stable offensive system, and some decent receivers to let him grow into his role.

That was never happening with Campbell in DC. They didn't have the resources to provide that and Campbell was just going to be a wasted QB who might have had a decent career. In 4 years time, even if they built those pieces for him, by then his confidence would have been shot and his career done.

Getting McNabb gives them a great QB who won't be shaken by sacks or bullshit.

They can concentrate on getting different pieces here and there without worrying about nurturing a young QB. Sure, 4 years from now they might be in the same place with a washed up QB - but in the end they would have lost out on 1 or 2 draft picks - so it is not a bad route for them to take. They will get something for Campbell as well so their loss is really as minimal as can be.

You can't name any other great QB who has been got for less than McNabb.

Ok, lets see here. You give up a 2nd and a potential 3rd round pick for mcnabb who won't get the Redskins to where they need to be in the few great years they have left. Secondly, the Redskins have horrible receivers, a horrible offensive line, horrible, aging, borderline useless running backs, and a secondary that could use an upgrade and some depth. They have sacrificed the chance to get younger and better at a few of those positions for a QB who won't get them a ring simply because he does not have the talent around him.

You have to look at the big picture Terry. Are any halfway decent receivers going to a DC team lead by Campbell? What about one lead by McNabb? They sacrifice two picks - in four years time if McNabb is gone and they still suck - they will have more draft picks to replace him and will be a better team overall.

great points Terry...the deadskins are in horrible shape even with McNabb who I believe will help them but overall without the things you just mentioned they will still be in last place....so hey maybe this trade does help my G-MEN because the sheagles got weaker......and the deadskins are still the deadskins but now they have McNabb and he maybe worth one extra win to them this upcoming year if that...so now I need Dall-ass to trade Romo and Demarcus Ware for a few draft picks and then the NFC East can get back to the rightful owners for real....I see a division title in 2010....

Wait...so you're trying to tell me he isn't an upgrade from Campbell? Seriously?

We all know the Skins stunk it up last year...or else those draft picks you speak so highly of wouldn't be so high...
