| Damn, 1994 may be my all time favorite year after compiling this list...
My 1994 5-star classics:
Ween "Chocolate And Cheese" Weezer "Weezer" (Blue Album) Green Day "Dookie" Nirvana "MTV Unplugged In New York" Soundgarden "Superunknown" Cake "Motorcade Of Generosity" NOFX "Punk In Drublic" The Offspring "Smash" 311 "Grassroots" Jamiroquai "Return Of The Space Cowboy"
The Ween & Weezer albums are fighting for #1 for me, and would probably both one-up my top hip-hop album of the year.

Huh, I am sort of surprised by the Soundgarden pick. Back in 1994, that was my favorite album...probably...I was still waffling then. I was hooked on the guitar solos and wide vocal ranges from Chris Cornell....it basically lead me to Metallica/metal in general, which I was obsessed with for many years to come. Pantera-Far Beyond Driven
Portishead-Dummy So you picked the same from my list as Terry? Surprised you didn't include NOFX...I thought you were a fan, though I could be mistaken. Anyway, damn, you got a lot of metal here. I never got into Megadeth despite the Metallica obsession (that may be in part of the fact I had only their worst (?) album "Cryptic Writings"). I'd consider Beastie Boys hip-hop, but I can see it as a crossover. Pink Floyd? I'm a huge (like massive) Pink Floyd fan, but I may consider this to be their worst studio recording...lol...it is still a good record IMO though! Never got too much into NIN, never was my thing really. The Stone Temple Pilots was near classic to me back then....Big Empty, Interstate Love Song, Vasoline...classic cuts. But man, I never spin that record anymore. Sounds rather dated to me. The Pearl Jam was my first PJ album and it may be the reason I never bought anymore until much later in life. Good record, but I only had 2 favorite jams on it (Spin The Black Circle & Better Man). Never got into Portishead back in the day, but that was good album. Also, nice call on Alice In Chains, whit was nice. Dirt (from 1993) is a classic IMO, but I never actually owned this one. One of my buddies had the tape. The Korn album is a good call. DEFINITELY classic to me back then. Along with their 2nd and 3rd albums (and possibly 4th). Damn though, I sold all those CDs a few years ago....some stuff just doesn't age with you. lol

| The Pantera album is great. Youthanasia is dope too. who knew a "sober" Dave Mustaine could do that? I liked Korn's debut back then, but not so much now. I like STP, but only Core is their only classic IMO. Never really cared for NIN. That Pearl Jam album is ok, but again i'm not a huge fan. Pink Floyd's album is weak relatively speaking. | |

You may want to check out that Portishead album. It's a pretty important trip-hop album, and you may at least like some of the beats. Third is 50x better, but then again, that's not trip hop really. Surprised nobody mentioned Protection by Massive Attack, a better album that came out in '94. Great albums not yet mentioned: Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 Shellac - At Action Park Don Caballero - Don Caballero 2 (i think)

I'm not sure how big of a Kells fan you are, but I bump that album as much as any of them on this list. |

I was responding to Acrid about Blur, which I feel is Brit pop and alternative rock/pop. Not indie rock. Crooked Rain was originally release in 1993, which is the copy I own: http://www.discogs.com/Pavement-Crooked-Rain-Crooked-Rain/master/21662

You may want to check out that Portishead album. It's a pretty important trip-hop album, and you may at least like some of the beats. Third is 50x better, but then again, that's not trip hop really. Surprised nobody mentioned Protection by Massive Attack, a better album that came out in '94.
Great albums not yet mentioned:
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol 2 Shellac - At Action Park Don Caballero - Don Caballero 2 (i think) While I agree it's important to trip-hop, I do not see SRP feeling a trip-hop album at all really. lol Obviously, you don't know me as well as that mutant mutt known as halfsharkalligatorhalfman. Have you heard the album? I'd be surprised if you dig it, that's all. If you do, then halfshark does know you more I guess.

| I remember all of Kj's picks, except Mary J's My Life, simply because I didn't listen to that one. Portishead's Dummy was dope too!
I don't expect any of you guys to cosign any of the following picks, but here are some of my favorite from 1994:
Tevin Campbell -I'm Ready Xcape- Hummin, Commin At Cha Mariah Care-Music Box Janet Jackson-Janet Tony Toni Tone: Sons of Soul |

Scott, her best effort IMO although some would argue that What's The 411 is. Nevertheless, I recommend it to any R&B fan. Those albums you picked are dope, but they were released in 1993, not 94. |

Hell...Saturday Night too... I disagree. The Zhane debut album was dope but not classic IMO, and Saturday Night is forgettable. You're retarded... Their debut is a classic. The sophomore is 4 stars objectively...4.5 in my book. Just because the second album didn't have as many hits (your unspoken barometer) and The Source didn't green light it doesn't mean it was forgettable. You haven't heard it. I'm starting to doubt you heard the debut in full... And they're easily better than anything Brandy has dropped.

So you move it to General Hip Hop when it says non-hip hop in the title? lol And, KJ, why did you quote yourself?

I'm starting to doubt you heard the debut in full... I own both of them, jabroni. I got the debut at 4.5 (although I can see why some would rate it a classic) and Saturday Night at 3.5. I probably had it at 4 stars when I bought it but it hasn't retained it's replay value over the years IMO. I can understand why some wouldn't dig Brandy but her discography is superb IMO, I have two of her albums rated as classics, and only one of them under 4 stars. |
