Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? even though im new to them probably Guerilla Maab
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? Wu-Tang
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? Rza, he discovered 8 of the dopest MC's and put them together in a group of 9 that all ended up having great chemistry together. Not to mention the hundreds of killah beez he's discovered...killarmy, sunz of man, killah priest, timbo king, bronze nazareth, wu syndicate, la the darkman, capadonna
Dre is no slouch as he discovered Snoop, Em, Game, 50, but too many other people Dre has discovered they never released albums, been shelved, released from the label, etc...
As far as production their both GOATs but i give the edge to Rza. He can mold his sound to any mc he works with for a whole album, is more unique as a producer, and IMO has produced more complex, better beats.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? to me its Ante Up, but thats not gonna be a popular choice
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? hmm..id go Saigon or Jay Electronica but they havent really released much Maybe Canibus but i enjoy 3 of his albums A LOT, so to me his isnt that weak Ras Kass to some, but hes a top 10 MC to me
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Hieroglyphics, Blackstar
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? HELL NO
What are your two favorite diss songs? im not sure there are a ton of great disses but Checkmate by Jada is one of my favs
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? they've both put out tons, but ill say Loud for the fuck of it
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Ride to as in drive to?? if so than hardcore/bass heavy
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? ATCQ barely
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? slang and storytelling
Nas or Rakim? i dont know both top 10
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? probably Sticky
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? not sure

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? Little Brother
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? Run-DMC, they paved the way for all hip-hop groups. Anyone who grew up in the Golden Ages got down with them
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? I've gotta say Dre. RZA's awesome but other than Wu and Wu affilates he hasn't discovered many peeps. Dre finds talent out of the woodworks.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? Hmmmmm, this one's tough. I'm gonna say Scenario.
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Canibus
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? The decline of post-2000 mainstream hip-hop
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? HELL FUCKING NO, anybody who thinks otherwise needs their head examined. Jay-Z is Terrell Owens to Biggie's Jerry Rice.
What are your two favorite diss songs? The Bridge Is Over and Ether
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? It's really close, probably Jive though.
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? I can ride to either of them, whichever I choose depends on my mood
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? ATCQ is my GOAT group so they win. I love EPMD as well, but Q-Tip and Phife are much better lyricists than Erick and Parrish IMO.
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? I'm a fan of all three types. Most of my favs are witty wordplay MC's though.
Nas or Rakim? Two of my favorite MC's of all time. I'll give Nas the microscopic edge.
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? Freddie Foxxx easily.
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? Only if he hooked up with Timbaland or Organized Noise, but even then I feel that Luda and TI are better MC's.

Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? Both Run Dmc and Beastie Boys.
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? I'd say RZA because of the all the great Mc's from the Wu. Dre's had a couple but alot of his so called protege's have never ended up releasing anything on Aftermath.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? I don't know......O.p.p.? I like the "Ante Up" pick.
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Sorry but to me it has to be Busta.

Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Loud.
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Hardcore in the whip.
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? Tribe.
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? Little bit of everything, i guess witty wordplay.
Nas or Rakim? Big Nas fan but gotta go with Rakim.
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? Freddie Foxxx
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? Really i'm surprised he didn't blow up on either Rap A Lot or Suave House. So i'll say no.

Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? DMX.

"Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? LL Cool J"
hmmm I don't know about this one man let's see:
Radio (1985)-5 stars Bigger and Deffer (1987)-5 stars Walking with a Panther (1989)-4 stars Mama Said Knock You Out (1990)-5 stars 14 Shots to the Dome (1993)-4 stars Mr. Smith (1995)-4.25 stars Phenomenon (1997)-3 stars G.O.A.T. (2000)-4 stars 10 (2002)-2.75 stars The DEFinition (2004)-2.75 stars Todd Smith (2006)-0 stars Exit 13 (2008)-4 stars
now of course those ratings are my opinion but I still find it hard to say that OVERALL Cool J has a weak discography...he has too many classic moments in that catalog even with the duds....

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? Hot Boys/Tru
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? Outkast, probably
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? Dre. This is fucking easy. Rza didn't "discover" the Wu Tang Clan. That was a group he was in. Did Jam Master Jay "discover" Run and DMC? That's fucking stupid. NONE of the original Wu Tang members count, especially not Gza, as he already had an album out before 36 Chambers dropped. Also, ODB was his goddamn cousin. Lastly, 90% of the wu affiliates attributed to Rza, he didn't "discover" in the first goddamn place. People were brought to Rza and he either co-signed them or he didn't. This is COMPLETELY different than Dr. Dre, who has DISCOVERED tons of talent.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? Probably "Hip Hop Hooray" IMO.
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Everybody is saying Canibus because it's the safe pick. I'll go with Louis Logic.
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Rawkus records, if you're talking about indie type shit. If you're talking about midwest/southern/west coast "underground" (like people consider Tech N9ne) then it'd probably be through Twista, who introduced me to Psychodrama, Triple Darkness, Vakill, etc.
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? I'd really say Jay is equal to Biggie, but it's a tough call because, uh, BIGGIE ONLY PUT OUT THREE ALBUMS.
What are your two favorite diss songs? Hit Em Up and Nail In The Coffin
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Loud
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Hardcore
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? Can I say MOP?
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? I think you have to have all three. And honestly, if any mc is really good at any one thing, I'll check them out.
Nas or Rakim? Flow? Rakim. Lyrics? Nas. GOAT? Neither.
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? "hard" is such a weird term to me. If you mean who's delivery is the most complex? Sticky. If you mean who's is the most "gangster"? DMX.
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? Tela was on two of the biggest labels in the south in the time period he was most active in. Anybody that says yes is making excuses for dude. 8ball & MJG didn't need to go anywhere to get their recognition, did they?

um yes he did, he discovered that the members he asked to join had talent. If not for him, they would not be rapping today besides Gza and ODB
Method Man had a job and was slingin until he was asked by rza to join Rae and Ghost were slingin and just fucked around with the rhymes from now and then
It doesnt matter if they knew/met each other from ways outside of music, he still discovered their talent and asked them to join

Yeah, it definitely does matter. Rza didn't get them signed. Rza didn't put them out. Rza was the figurehead of a fucking group. Did JMJ discover Run and DMC? Simple question.

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? Field Mob
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? Public Enemy (listening), Deathrow affiliates (rolling), No Limit (buying)
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? Quantity vs. Quality Qualitatively speaking, Dre Quantitatively speaking, RZA (numerous wu-affiliates & the original clansmen)
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? Headbanger & Ruff Ryders anthem
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Ras Kass & Mad Skillz (a gem a piece)
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Technically I could say I've always done this to some degree because I thought the artists I liked were like by most people. Did really feel the flip side until college talking to non-Southerners. So I guess underground is relative. I just like to hear music I like.
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? I still like Biggie more but Jigga is tight.
What are your two favorite diss songs? 2nd Round KO Malcolm X
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Honestly don't know. I'd have to do the respective comparison but I listen to Loud Records more often.
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Hardcore/Bass Heavy
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? ATCQ
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? B. witty wordplay
Nas or Rakim? Nas, listen to him more
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? DMX more so by default, only heard Freddie a few times and only Sticky on bacdafucup
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? Don't know. RAL gave him good exposure but I don't think to world was really ready for the South until No Limit. Before that we were actively ignored.

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? Some good one's have been mentioned except Little Brother. But my pick is 2 Live Crew. I think they get pigeonholed into these one hit wonders and one trick pnys but they made good albums.
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? NWA was my 1st addiction grp wise.
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? Dre easily. Why? Dre was produced and discovered for artist who changed the game in their own right. Rza has Wu Tang who are legends in their own right but the rest don't even matter in the books of hip hop history. Dre has found cats that will forever be either legends or mentioned in every circle not just certain regions.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? OPP is my pick easily.
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Method Man and Busta rhymes easily.
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Rap-A-Lot records groomed me into looking outside the box.
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? Yes. But not my much and of course Biggie career being cut short plays a factor.
What are your two favorite diss songs? Dollaz N Sense (word E taylor) No Vaseline
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Jive records easily. You talkin about KRS One, Mystikal, E-40, Too short, and others.
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Hardcore/bass heavy
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? Hard one. I will say a Epmd barely.
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? Witty wordplay and common knowledge for me. I luv rappers who lyrically speak on real life situations more so than just big word rappers talikng about nothing.
Nas or Rakim? Nas easily.
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? Wow. Freddie Foxx wins barely over Sticky Fingaz.
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? I think so because down here females loved this cat like the males did. RAL just did not put the machine behind him and were not the right label for his style of rap. Suave House put him out there and he caught one big down here but the biggest mistake was when he left the label and they folded.

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? Eightball & MJG-most people cite Kast, Geto Boys, and UGK. Ball & G belong in that group IMO.
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? My early intro to hip hop was through my cousin and at that time it was all about Digital Underground's Sex Packets
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? Both get far too much credit for "discovering" talent.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? Fight For Your Right would probably be my favorite anthem type song
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Mase. Aside from his first album, the rest of his discog is forgettable
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Desire to not hear the same stuff over and over.
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? That's all personal preference. I like Jay more, but not by a wide margin. Both are top 20-25 for me.
What are your two favorite diss songs? I have a top 3 and i can't pick just two. Ether, Hit Em Up, and Dollaz & Sense
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Jive probably
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Bass Heavy
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? EPMD easily for me.
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? Witty Word play for the most part, but a combination of all 3 is the ideal situation.
Nas or Rakim? Nas
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? DMX i suppose
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? I think he had the talent to do so.

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? Not really sure, maybe P.K.O.
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? NWA
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? NExt..
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? I dont really like anthem type songs, but if I gotta choose one well... Hip Hop Hooray was dope
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? Cant really think right now but easy option Ras Kass
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Probably from reading the old shout outs inside the cd covers and hearing features on albums... i used to seek out more about those artists and bought albums and kept digging deeper and deeper. Underground radio shows helped to expose other artists and music, and then internet also opened a lot more avenues.
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? No
What are your two favorite diss songs? can only think of one right now, Thuggish Ruggish Bustas... by none other than Tommy Wright III... "I hope y'all fuck that dirty ho Eazy did so y'all can die too" haha!! nasty Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Probably Jive IMO Krs One, Spice 1 etc I used to fiend for that shit
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Probably a bit of everything
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? Probably hand it to Tribe
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? A bit of everything is nice, but if I have to choose one hmm witty wordplay
Nas or Rakim? Rakim, I have no interest in Nas other than Illmatic
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? Probably Freddie
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did don't know maybe

Who's the most underrated southern grp ever? I don't know that many, but 5th Ward Boyz came to mind first. The album Kev has got for an icon.
Whats the 1st hip hop grp you really got down with? Beastie Boys
Who has produced/discovered more talent over their career: Rza or Dre? And Why? Rza for sure. Why? I suppose you can say I prefer his material more.
What is the best hip hop anthem type song ever made? I immediately think of Rakim "I Ain't No Joke" for some reason, so I'm going with it.
Who has mad skillz but a weak discog? I regret to say it because he's still one of my favorites, but E-40 is hit and miss with me. As far as classics, I count 1 personally. A couple near, a few more good, and the rest are above average to average. But he's definitely gifted IMO.
What got you into discovering underground/non mainstream artist? Atmosphere, Brother Ali, then E&A
Is Jay-Z really betta than Biggie? Not that I'm aware of...
What are your two favorite diss songs? Ehh, none come to mind...not really something I look for in a hip-hop song.
Who put out more classic albums: Loud or Jive records? Not a clue. I know I own a few by each.
What do you prefer to ride too: smooth/jazzy or hardcore/bass heavy? Both
EPMD or A Tribe Called Quest? Tribe. Just dig the albums more overall.
What type of lyricists you prefer: A. complex vocab B. witty wordplay C. common knowledge? Witty wordplay, but good/compelling/interesting writing is also important to me.
Nas or Rakim? I guess I'll go with Nas, even though Paid In Full is #1 between the two IMO. But I like Nas' later work more than Rakim's...so he wins.
Who has the hardest delivery between: Freddie Foxxx, DMX, and Sticky Fingaz? Don't like DMX and haven't heard anything from the other 2.
If Tela had been on a more major label could he have blown up for the south before Luda and TI did? lol...no idea.

hmmm I don't know about this one man let's see:
I agree with you up to 14 Shots to the Dome. After that, I think you're giving him too much credit.

2 Live Crew was more of a novalty then underrated.

Even if you agree up until 14 Shots To The Dome he still has 3 all-time classics in that line-up before that one...Radio....Bigger And Deffer and Mama Said Knock You Out
so with 3 classics his discography is hardly WEAK..and on which ones am I giving him to much credit??
I gave him 0 stars on Todd Smith...2.75 on two of them and 3 stars on Phenomenon....so give me your ratings!

Powell, I think you're too hard on The DEFinition. That album has it's share of bangers. 10 and Todd Smith are his only albums that are worthless IMO.
At worst, he has 3 out of 12 albums that are garbage. 9 quality albums, including 3 classics, eliminates him from this category completely.

I agree with everything you wrote Terry...the man's discography is hardly weak, especially when you consider that he has 3 all-time hip-hop classics in it...as far as The DEFinition..I thought Timbaland threw out a few dope beats on it but their chemistry together wasn't as strong as I would have liked IMO which is why he got the lower rating on that album!

"2 Live Crew was more of a novalty then underrated." Novelty or not 2LC set the tone for Southern club music. Miami Bass is the corner stone for almost every type of Southern Club Music. Bounce, Crunk, and their derivative off shoots were all influences by Miami Bass.

DEFinition was garbage. He didn't spit one hard song on it. It was like he wanted to appeal to the pop-bopper crowd with that album. Kinda like Common did with UMC.

Rza couldn't discover a group he was in. That makes no goddamn sense. Discovering means you're in the position to get the group recoginition. That makes no sense. Refute this claim, anybody.

If he brought them from a position of curb serving to a position of musician, I can't understand why you can't give the guy some credit for putting them on.

Because he didn't put them on. He was in a group that blew up, totally different. Did Dr. Dre "discover" NWA? Fuck no. Did JMJ "discover" Run and DMC? No.
It's just because it's Rza. Damn bias.

I thought RZA was at least regional before the formation of Wu, I'm not trying to argue, because I am no authority on this subject. Dre put Cube & K-Dee on with CIA, and again when they formed NWA at least that's what I thought.

^ i agree with both your statements Romped
and the thing about Rza is that he had a plan from day 1, he planned to find a group of 9, put them all together, and then let them expand the group brand through solo careers, it was all set up from the get go

...
Slang, with all due respect, that means nothing. Nothing. I have a plan to work with Justin Linker, Shaun, Arokone, SRP, Exzakt and Norf as my producers until we all go platinum as multi-trillionaires and fuck ho's on the daily. But even if that happened, them being on my album doesn't mean I "discovered" them, because I'm not in a goddamn position to put anybody on. Just like Rza when Wu dropped. NOBODY IN THE WORLD was like "hey, did you hear Prince Rakeem got a new group he's putting out?" when Wu dropped. Fucking nobody. Because...RZA DIDN'T PUT OUT WU. Rza was ACTUALLY working on Gravediggaz the SAME TIME as Wu Tang because, again, Rza was in no position to get on anybody's label as a solo act, let alone have some one take his advice on who's dope and who's not. The ONLY cats Rza ever put out were Cappadonna and North Star. Only dudes he "discovered" and put on (because they were on his label and he got them signed, period, 90% of Wu affiliates go through other doors because Rza is NOTORIOUSLY harsh on rappers...who else have you seen on Razor Sharp Records? NOBODY), period. Not even Powell is agreeing with you on this, Slang.

I agree with you Jeff....Rza molded and shaped Wu no doubt but he did not discover them imo. To my knowledge Gza and maybe ODB were rapping b4 Rza and influenced him so did they discover him?
Rza-Wu-Tang=Nothing Dre-Nwa+DOC+ATL+Snoop+Eminem+Game=betta than Rza in this arguement

The original Wu Tang Clan was pretty much RZA, GZA, and ODB (All In Together Crew...do the knowledge). The rest were put on by RZA...

That argument doesn't hold water, with all due respect, Norf. The fact that Rza was in a crew prior to Wu Tang doesn't mean Rza "put them on". He was an UNSIGNED rapper before Wu Tang got signed AS A GROUP. How is that putting some one on?

And why is Dre getting credit for NWA? Eazy put him on...not the other way around. Before Eazy, Dre was doing R&B/House/Electronic music...
Dre don't get credit for Cube, Ren, Yella and Eazy. Wake up, people.

I guess he put that out by himself?
Fact is....RZA and GZA were the only rappers in the group to ever be signed to a label before Wu got signed. Their displeasure with the industry sent in the direction that prompted them to form Wu Tang. Which is why all their "pre-Wu" music sounded so different...because they were trying to navigate the industry. GZA, RZA, and ODB are all related...they were down with each other from day 1.
And RZA did put them on. When I find the video with them acknowledging as much when they first came out, I'll post it.
I'll take their word over yours. No offense.
I wasn't trying to make an argument. Just clearing up some misinformation.

Are you kidding me right now or are you just trying to be argumentative? Dude was a part of World Class Wreckin' Cru. Have you not heard Real Muthaphuckin' G's?
"All of a sudden Dr Dre is a G Thang. But on his old album covers, he was a she thang"
That was in reference to what he was doing before Eazy brought him in. No one ever claimed Dre put them on...especially not me. This is the first I've ever heard of some shit like that. Cube was a member of CIA before NWA. They both have albums or wax out before NWA. Find me a Rae, Ghost, Meth, U God, Deck, or Masta Killah album or vinyl or anything before RZA.
