Damn Steve lookin at your list you are str8 up a east coast soldier. I mean even KJ's list got more "outside" that style tyrp emcees. I'm surprised with Pac being your number one you only got one other west coast cat on our list thats not east coast influenced style wise.

Yeah I haven't heard much of anything other than mainstream West/Midwest/Souf until the past few years, and I haven't heard a bunch of stuff from there mainstream or otherwise. I'm definitely weak on the other areas.
I also prefer the sounds typified by my picks, gangsta/intellectual/political. Maybe you could give some recommendations and I could listen?
P.S. so Del and Ras are East Coast influenced? Gotta disagree with that my mane(mayne)
See KJ, we're not so different you and I. We share 1/2 of the same top 20.
indeed, KJ and i have 15 in common, but i'm east coast bias.
Indeed fellas
And I gotta agree with you Steve, Del and Ras Kass are not East Coast influenced. Del is Cube's cousin for crying out loud! He may not have Cube's style, but you can definitely tell he's a West Coaster.

Well have you checked out any Paris? T-KASH? K-Rino? Trick Daddy? Nappy Roots? Willie D?
All of them fit that description and would be outside of your east coast safe zone. And have nothing against the eastcoast style for the record. I just think hip hop becomes even more enjoyable when you truly can listen across the board. If I just listened to east coast style or west coast style or whatever and nothing else i'd get bored with hip hop quick. Its nothing like bumping The Infamous than throwing on Way 2 Fonkey or Dirty Money for example. I make sure I do not get stuck in one sound.

Come on guys this is what I mean by not being able to step out the box. Del's production and rhyme style has more in common with The Artifacts, LOTUG, and Leaders Of The New School. Than CMW, Spice 1, and Gift Of Gab. You do not hear that something is truly wrong. Del hasn't been true blue blueprint west coast since his 1st album. Ras Kass 1st album is more boom bap than g-funk so there you go. And his focus on heavy vocab lyricism over simple style and emotion is more east coast than anything.
