What is your favorite Masta Ace album and why?

Mine:
Disposable Arts - Besides the dope tracks from beginning to end, this LP best showcases Ace's storytelling ability. DA is Ace's best concept album as it serves as a prequil to A Long Hot Summer. Ace is a master (no pun intended) of the concept LP. Also, this album is a perfect 5 stars IMO.

I really couldnt give a favorite. TAke a look around is great old school. Slaughtahouse was a great west coast diss. ALHS and DA are both great concept album. I could give all four 5 stars

Take A Look Around is my favorite Ace album because it has the dopest production and the most classic songs on it.

You should look into his other albums, playa. You can't go wrong with any of his five solos.

Take A Look Around which of course is his debut, is his best one IMO...Marley hit him with some classic production on it and Ace was doing his thing lyrically too...

Disposable Arts would come next for me!

I also love the eMC collabo effort as well.....

Can't decide which is better, Take a look around or Slaughtahouse.

For some reason, I never really enjoyed Disposable arts that much, it's almost boring for me to be honest. But it has some very good tracks.

I can enjoy TALA to a certain extent but it's his worst to me and DA and ALHS are about equal best to me. I know the older cats love TALA for its old school sound but I just can't listen to it for too long. It sounds waaaay too dated, and I think his best lyrical work is on his later work.

I disagree with that. Many of the beats on TALA are still being used today so I don't see how it's dated, and lyrically only Disposable Arts comes close IMO, but I personally give the edge to TALA because it has the most 5 star tracks on it IMO.

You think Take A Look Around is his worst? Really?? I can't see how anyone would pick Sittin On Chrome over Take A Look Around. The others possibly (although I don't agree) but definitely not that one.

Ace is wild
The Other Side of Town
Me and the Biz

are my three favorite tracks from TALA.

I never listen to Sittin On Chrome, lol. I forgot about that one. Honestly KJ, I just don't have an ear for anything that sounds 80s-ish. My opinions on such albums should be taken with a grain of salt.

Really?? Yeah you're definitely N3R0's boy....lol!

Honestly what you call "dated" I consider timeless. Dopeness is dopeness. Some of the best hip-hop albums of all time came out in the 80's. I guess it has to do with when you started listening to hip-hop music. While some music is dated, there's a lot of it that has aged quite well, and Take A Look Around is one of those albums (released in 1990). Different strokes for different folks though.

Itunes has Slaughtahouse for 7.99 so I will replace the tape I had with that. Which one would you all buy after that. I haven't heard them. Either Disposable Arts or A Long Hot Summer?

Hmm... It depends on what you like, Highsmith. Disposable Arts has a newer feel to it, with better lyricism, IMO. If you like that old Marley Marl sound, go for Take A Look Around.

Haha... I saw A Long Hot Summer and thought you said Take A Look Around for some reason... Go with Disposable Arts first.

I think it def has a lot to do with when you started listening to something. KJ, you were growing up (i think) in the 80s so you have a lot of memories that are linked to the songs and sounds of that time period. My memories are linked to more of the mid 90s and beyond, which at the time was the new school so everything older sounded, well...old. I def have my 80s albums here and there but overall my favorites come from 90 and beyond. Like you said, different strokes...

And to answer the question, I would go with Disposable Arts...it seems to be the non-polar favorite.
