Beat Battle 2011 - Week 1

For the first week we have decided to take Jay-Z's "Never Change" acapella and make an original beat for it. The rules are:
1) No sample loops
2) No vocal Loops
3) Single note samples are allowed
4) Deadline is Feb 6th at Midnight.

After the beats are done I will post a poll thread for everybody to vote for the best beat. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Yes, I just said that.

I said the tempo for the acapella is 86BPM, but after trying to sync drums to it it doesn't seem to fit...would you (or anyone) agree?

I found a site that says it is 84bpm but that didn't sound right to me either. It sounds better at 86 to me, but still not 100% on point. And the chorus seems to be waaay off on its own bpm. I cut the very beginning off and started the beat a 1/4 bar ahead of the vocals and it sounds on point at 86 bpm until the chorus. I think im gonna cut the chorus off and place it seperately.

Ah. I'm still having trouble but I will figure something out.

Hey Wanduras, I know you said no vocal samples but I was wondering if I could use the sample that was in the original song "I never never never never change"? If not, it's cool.

When I made the rules, I didn't realize that part had been cut out. I'm not using it but it's cool if you or anyone else wants to. Btw, I separated each verse and chorus and placed them on time with the beat and it sounds pretty good, still slightly off at some points, tho.

I did the same thing, Wanduras. Set at 86BPM, the hook ends a little short. That's really the only problem I've had.

It's unfortunate but I have to forfit this one. I was working on something when this came about and didn't have enough time left to start it. I will judge this one but I will definitely partake in the next one.
