I tend to play instros at work a lot, and my intrumental album collection is limited to J. Dilla, DJ Shadow, Pete Rock, and a few albums i have instros for(APOS and The Stimulus Package). I need some suggestions on what to pick up next.

Avalanches "Since I Left You". Perhaps my favorite instrumental album of all time. Over 3,500 samples went into this record. It was a monstrous undertaking and I don't know how it could have come out any better or more cohesive. I've probably listened to this album more than 200 times. No lie.
And perhaps some Kid Koala. Kid Koala is one of the best turntablists I've ever heard, but his music is so experimental that I don't think most people would appreciate it. I got his album "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" at 5 stars, and all his work above 4 stars, but I think his album "Your Mom's Favorite DJ" would be good for Kid Koala beginners. It's one of his more recent releases, but it's actually an older recording. It's a great album...probably 4.5 stars to me....

I couldn't get into Carpal Tunnel Syndrome at all. From a technical standpoint it is impressive, but I don't find it listenable.

I've heard that that before from others. It's pure experimental turntablism. It's basically the album that really opened my eyes to the DJ. I mean, I never fathomed the type of ideas he thought up on that album. I've spun it well over 100 times since I've had it, but it did take about 5 listens for it to really sink in. Have you heard "Your Mom's Favorite DJ"? Quite a bit different...

Well, that and all his albums are only about 30 minutes long. So it isn't too much of a commitment. lol
I think you will like "Your Mom's Favorite DJ" more. It was recorded around 1996, but was released in 2006 (sounds quality is not an issue). His style was still experimental (with every second being filled with samples) but it has more flow to it and is an easier listen. It definitely bangs more. Obviously, I'd still recommend a download if you didn't care for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome much.
I guess Kid Koala can be described as a DJ's DJ. The people I know that love his music are either music producers themselves (or wannabes), or they are extremely interested in turntablism.
I got his debut on tape: "Scratchcratchratchatch" (1996). He needs to get this out on CD IMO. This is easily some of his best work ever.
One more note. If you ever get a chance to see Kid Koala live - do it. His shows are one of a kind, and some of the most memorable I'd ever seen. I saw one show at one of the most famous clubs in Minneapolis - First Avenue. They filled the dance floors with small circle tables, nice chairs, tables cloths and candles; and actually had waitresses taking drink orders during the show. Even had a lot of crowd interaction. Some of the most unique music mashing I ever heard live. Still one of the most different shows I'd seen to this day - quite the production for a nobody (more or less in the grand scheme of things...).

I gave that carpal tunnel CD a chance a long time ago... appreciated it for what it was but nothing I thought I needed to spin too often.

Well, I did live with a couple of DJs/music producers when I was introduced to this album. We all listened to it a ton. So I gained a great appreciation and liking for it. From a technical standpoint; I've still never heard anything like it to this day.
