Stop hating on Speakerboxxx/The Love Below

I'll never understand why a lot of Outkast fans will shit on this double disc release. It's very diverse and there is a lot of talent put in it. It's a hip-hop, funk, jazz, R&B album. Many different styles of music mashed into 2 discs, and for the most part, or to me rather, they pull it off very well.

j/k I agree fully. I have some great history with Love Below, but Speakerboxx actually is next to last above Stankonia (havent heard Idlewild, no excuse). That album, to me, just sounds a little too electric. The high points are excellent, though.

I guess I don't agree fully, reading my post. I agree halfly.

My issue is just that even though speakerboxxx is good, it sounds like a generic rap album. It doesn't have that outkast element that makes it special. And Love Below is good too, but the thing is that when they make music together it is just much better. So all the time they put into something else is wasteful. That is my issue with lucious leftfoot album.
I do think speakerboxxx is better than lucious leftfoot though.

Anyway, I'm sorry Link I just can't get into The Love Below...I'm not even a big fan of the mega-hit chart topping singles. A lot of Love Below sounded to me like when you go into some fancy steakhouse or restaurant or some cruise ship type situation where they have somebody softly playing piano and singing forgettable background songs nobody really pays attention to. Speakerboxxx is good but not great....and is far less eclectic than the Lucious Left Foot album.

As I said to you on Facebook, I never liked The Love Below much but Speakerboxxx is a banger! I pretty much feel the same way Half does. The only Kast album worse than TLB is Idlewild.

The Love Below sucks....there's no reason to hate on it because it's not good material. If you look at Outkast's discography, the main 2 things that bring it down is The Love Below & Idlewild. If you can't see that, then you're too biased to comment on anything Outkast....

It does not suck. You is trippin'. You must not like that style of music Andre did on there. I think he pulled off what he intended to do.

I'll have to revisit it, I lost intrest after Aquemini, when they started with that Mrs. Jackson B.O.B. crap.

Linker that doesn't make it dope just because Andre intended on doing what he set out to do. There have been several artists that have tried different things but it hasn't worked because he/she strayed too much from their original style.

Again, I'll say to me he pulled it off. Musically, I thought the vibe of The Love Below is excellent.

Southernplayalistic as an album is my favorite. But Those 2 songs you mentioned are some of my favorites. What makes Outkast so dope to me is they never make the same album twice. They aren't afraid to go out of their comfort zone, because they have no comfort zone.

I agree, but when I think they had the formula the best was right from the jump, and it just continued to go downhill for me. I like their first 3 in the order they came out.

Ehhh, I don't like Speakerboxxx/Love Below much at all. And i'm as big a Outkast fan that there is. Album just never did much for me. I actually like "Idlewild" better.

You're not the only one... I can't stand Love Below... even the "hits" I can't stand... no roses or polaroid pictures for me...Speakerboxx is dope, but I agree it sounds nothing like a real Outkast album. Idlewild still has remnants of that Kast sound.
