| If you wanna say that Em is the king of "commercial" hip-hop then maybe I'll agree. | |

I don't have a problem with this. I just don't think a "King of Hip Hop" award means anything coming from Rolling Stone. It's the equivalent of The Source giving a "King of Metal" award or Decibel giving a "King of Country" award. Rolling Stone just pays attention to what is selling and tells buyers what they want to hear. Either that or they blow the latest Beatles/Johnny Cash/Bob Dylan etc. re-issue. Nobody here should care... I've already said far too much about it.

| I can't wait for XXL to crown Nas as the king of hip hop so I can point out that a black magazine picked a black rapper | |

Naw they'll pick Em too. But nice try white guy. In the current state of rap Em is the king of Hip Hop. I hope they are not saying period. I'll have to read your link.

| They're only using quantifiable stats (album sales, charted songs, youtube views, facebook likes etc.) of the past 3 years. | |

| Don't get me wrong, I really like Em. He's a Top 20 MC of all time for me, but Rolling Stone doesn't really chronicle rap all that much so for them to say that makes me fall on deaf ears. | |

If Em were black, he'd have never been signed by Dre and we don't even have this discussion...

Then he saw Em and, like the rest of us, said "Oh shit...he's white." In other words, since he signed him, Dre saw dollar signs. Refer to point #1...

| I disagree that Dre wouldn't have signed him. Em is an immense talent regardless of color. He wouldn't have had the ridiculous commercial success that he has had, but I think would have still been a respectable force in hip-hop. Of course, dealing in hypotheticals is always pointless... | |

| Dre wouldn't have taken the meeting with him if he didn't think he had something going on worthy of being signed. | |

| I don't care. That's why I haven't posted in this thread. So Rolling Stone thinks Em is the "King of Hip Hop"...so what? Now I'll go bump some Twin Perils. | |

I'm officially King of this here thread. According to Rolling Stone, the most important factors in whether or not you are a King of Hip Hop include how many twitter followers and facebook friends you have, and how much your album sells. That's legit criteria right?

Refer to point #1... Dre meets plenty of artist, even signs some of them. But Em dropped his album 2 months after signing. He's White and was marketable at the time. Em got skill but he aint that good. I still say he bit his style from Chino Xl, and I stand by that. Some say he ripped off Cage's style. Em has the ability to be very creative due to him being White. He's not bogged down by silly shit like having the biggest platinum chain or other things Black rappers bicker about. When a black rapper is creative he's shunned. Imagine if Em did songs like BusDriver, people would applaud how talented he is. But comparing Em, to the flock of commercail rappers like Lil Wayne,Drake, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rick Ross ect ...he difinetely is better than them.
