If you heard The Left's "Gas Mask" last year you're familiar with Apollo Brown. He's a beat maker who seems to be on the rise if you ask me. I guess he sounds like 9th Wonder mixed with Black Milk. I'm pretty sure that's already turned some people on here away, but I happen to like most of this guy's beats. As for Hassaan Mackey, he does a good job over Brown's production. I wouldn't say his performance is as fucking exhilarating as ice fishing, but he holds his own. At first the album seems to discuss how these guys got into hip hop and celebrating the underground, then it switches over into some personal stories and discussions about the meaning of life (ah, sip from the infinite fountain of "conscious rap" cliches). It might seem like I'm shitting on this album but I'm not, just saying that it isn't really doing anything new or breaking ground. The quality is pretty consistent though, and if you like one track you'll probably like them all. I think this is pretty good, check it out for sure. I would give it 4 stars, but I'll go 3.75 stars because doesn't it sound like Brown bit Arokone with this beat?

Haha yeah right when I heard the drums kick I thought of it immediately. It's not exactly the same, but damn. I prefer Humboldt Park of course.

It's definitely the same sample. I, too, prefer Perez' version

I personally love this album. Your right Half in that nothing is groundbreaking on here but it's just solid from start to finish and I think Mackey has a great flow. My fav tracks are Higher, Something, Like a Diamond and Volume. Like I said on another thread, I already like this better than The Left. I'd give this 4.25
