Survival Football Pick Ems 2011!

Back for this year! On Yahoo!.

How it works is you pick one team to beat another team once a week for the run of the season and playoffs. Once you pick one team, you can't pick them again for the remainder of the season. 3 strikes and you are out, last person standing wins.

I like this format because it doesn't require you to make predictions for the entirety of the season every week. If people are interested in a traditional pick em though I can start one too.

In order to join the group, just go to Survival Football, and click the "Join a Group" button. From there, enter the following information...

Password: predict

Not 100% sure how this works. I know I pick on team to win, and can't use them again, right? Am I picking against the spread? Example, say I pick the Titans and they lose, but lose by less than 6...is that a win for me?

I don't think it goes by point spreads. I know I won this 2 years ago in the forum and it didn't then so I doubt it does now. I'm about to join.

Cool, because that would have an impact on who/how I pick.

yes. The point spread is just there to give you an idea of who is favored, but the team you pick just has to win in real life.

yeah man, you can join until sunday like an hour before kick off, but the sooner the better.

Yeah, deadline for picks is Sunday noon central time, if you don't pick you are eliminated. I can only see my pick so I assume they keep it hidden until game day.

OK, so each week you pick one team you think will win that week. Once you pick a team for one week, you can't pick them again for the rest of the season. They provide the spread and the percentage of users who are picking a particular team to help guide your decision, but otherwise all that matters is who wins or loses. If you pick the wrong team you get a strike, three strikes knocks you out permanently. Winner(s) are the last team standing at the end of the season/playoffs.

Example...I picked the Lions this week, so I won't be able to pick them again.

Edit: How does it work in the playoffs though? Suppose someone picked most of the teams that end up in the playoffs...would they be able to pick them again?

For groups that chose to continue through the playoffs (this includes Public groups), the teams you can pick will reset once at the beginning of the playoffs. That means that you will again be able to pick each NFL team just once throughout the playoffs.

Bring your best strategy to the game because it'll take some serious planning to leave the Super Bowl winner available to the end.

That's actually really cool IMO. You have to guess the SB winner before the playoffs... and try not to pick them until the end.

In hindsight, I'm glad the point spread doesn't apply, because I would have lost. I would have picked Seattle...I didn't think they'd get blanked.

Then you give them far too much credit

lol...the spread makes things a ton more complicated, but it is fun. One year I did a NFL Pick Em's with the spread, it was quite the ordeal.
