Odom To The Mavericks

I just read on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that the Lakers pretty much gave Lamar Odom away to the Mavericks. They gave up a first rounder which, since they're the champs and should do well this year, is most likely to be a really, really late pick.

the lakers motive seems to be they did the trade for the $8.9 milion trade exception and cap space, but if they trade for Howard now there frontcourt will be paper thin assuming it costs bynum and gasol

They said they are not giving up both bynum and gasol for howard, but they have nothing else to give up... it was a shrewd/smart move for the mavs though personally I hated Odom for his dirty playing last season

if the Lakers dont get a player out of a trade though, the Odom trade may have been one of the dumbest trades ever

Howard isn't worth Bynum AND Gasol anyway. Defensively, he's probably the best center in the league, but he's limited offensively. On the flip side, it would be smart for the Lakers to get rid of Bynum while the getting is good. He's a bust imo. He had potential, but can you still call it potential after 6 injury plagued seasons? He rebounds well, but I think he needs a lot of polish. That's not worth a Dwight Howard type of talent. Gasol's best basketball is behind him. He's better offensively than Howard, and his defense is decent, but you don't want to go young for old if you're Orlando.

But I understand that ya gotta get something for him since he's leaving one way or another anyway...
