| I have been thinking about rappers/grps that at some point in time I thought were going to either be high on my fav list and/or bigger in the rap game. But they never or so far have lived up to the high standards they may have once set. I'm interesting in seeing some of you guys picks. Of course I already have plenty in mind. | |

| That's easy...Blu. Below The Heavens is one of my favorite albums ever, but CRAC and Johnon&Jonson sucked. And everything else has been average or below average. The only other thing I liked was HerFavoriteColour and I don't even think it was 20 minutes long... | |

| Most of these artist I was buying anything they put out most of the time blindly. Even after a few mis-steps and delays I stayed loyal to a lot of these artist. Now I will not buy anything from them blindly and some not at all.
Mr. Mike Beanie Sigel Cormega Dead Prez Dogg Pound Haystak Outlawz Fiend Point Blank E-40 Do or Die Mack 10
Those are some that I was really into at some point. I still have hope for Mega, Dead Prez, and Point Blank.

| Beanie's "The Solution" wasn't good to me at all. I didn't hear any Fiend after the 2 No Limit joints. Did Born & Raised turn you off of Mega or was it before that, Kev? | |

Born & Rasied was the one. But even before that he dropped two unofficial projects that were not all that prior. Those Legal Hustle and Who Am I? projects. He kinda did what Dead Prez did and dropped that one 1st great album and nothing has compared since. I like True Meaning that was a good follow up. Testament was good but was his old unreleased album. Born & Raised was very lack luster especially in the beat department. And rhyme wise on most songs he seemed to be just winging it. I do like maybe 3-4 trks on it but thats it. Dead Prez gave me some hope with the mixtape/album they dropped last year with Green Lantern. But none of their albums have even came semi near to that 1st one.

Blu is a helluva pick. I was in buy whatever from him mode after hearing BTH but he never dropped an official album after that. I kept hearing mixed reviews about the J&J & CRAC album and avoided those. He is on some other shit now that I do not want to hear from him. Good pick.

| I like J&J better than BTH. I couldn't not say it...
I would put Nine in this category. His first two albums are personal classics (Cloud 9 is quite official I think) but his later shit just doesn't work at all.
Murs also. After EOTB and 3:16 I had pretty huge expectations. I can honestly say that Felt 3 and Grand Caravan Re the only other albums I can listen to from him.

| Mobb Deep??? C'Mon Son! GTFOHWTBS!
They may have fell off, but in their prime they were easily an elite group.
As for my picks....
Canibus- His story is pretty well documented. But now he goes out and disses J. Cole after Cole gave him props and called him one of his favorites. That was idiotic on his part because a Cole fan might have been like "Lemme check Canibus out" but now he fucked that up. SMH!
Jadakiss- I love the guy, but he hasn't lived up to his "Top 5 Dead Or Alive" moniker. He still has a shot but the window is closing.
Mic Geronimo- I thought after Masta I.C. and Wherever You Are that he might have had a chance to blow up, but he never did.
Xzibit- He made a bigger name for himself pimpin rides than he did in his rap career. I like his first 3 albums and I thought after Restless he was on the verge of becoming one of rap's elite but he fell off.
Papoose- Never dropped a solo album and pretty much fell off the map after Remy Ma's incarceration. It's a shame, he really had potential to blow up.
Field Mob- As DTP imploded, so did their relevance.
BG- Has far more talent than Lil Wayne (and probably Juve too) but never really broke through the glass ceiling.

He would have been a top motherfucking 5 emcee for me but since he released "The New Danger" and "True Magic"...
I hope he sounds better on the new Black Star album if they actually release it.

Ray Cash-COD was dope and then nothing really.
Chamillionaire-he had all the talent, opportunity, and momentum, and then he was an afterthought.

I think his point is if they would have reached their full potential they would have stayed on top but they didn't. I understand that, but that wasn't really the point of this thread. To expand on that though, I believe that they dropped the ball when they released Blood Money and signed with G-Unit. Now that they're off of that now they have an opportunity to bounce back. I doubt they'll ever release anything on par with Infamous or Hell On Earth but if they can release another 4+ star album, it could help them return to relevancy and prominence.

Naw, gotta disagree with this one Parker. The Infamous, Hell On Earth, Murda Muzik, and the underrated Amerikaz Nightmare, with a very slight nod to Infamy, this is more quality than garbage right here.

| Uh, yeah. Jay-Z definitely lived up to expectations on Watch The Throne and Bp3. All the artists I named have dropped some really wack shit and therefore have not lived up to the expectations I personally set for them. I am consistent with my ratings my dude and my reasons are my own, so think what you want but at least I'm not in here saying an album I just gave a 4 to is by a "boring but talented" artist. |

you must have them confused with Slaine or something...cause you sound completely crazy right there..... they have a pretty strong overall discography IN MY OPINION Juvenile Hell-average The Infamous-Classic Hell On Earth-Classic Murda Muzik-Classic Infamy-above average Amerikaz Nightmare-above average Blood Money-WACK The Safe Is Cracked-above average Free Agents:The Mixtape-above average haven't heard Black Cocaine yet and I know they have another self titled effort on the way soon as well......but that overall disocgraphy is strong IN MY OPINION....I know that it blows Slaine's through the water.....he has nothing in his career as strong as The Infamous or Hell On Earth IN MY OPINION

So none of the artists you like have ever dropped anything wack? That's a damn lie for sure Cornfed. Just chalk it up to saying you're not feeling those artists (which is unrelated to this topic) and leave it at that. But Jay-Z, Kayne, Nas, Common, Game, Ice Cube, TI, and Ghostface have EASILY dropped more quality than garbage. And as I explained to you before. I wrote that about Yelawolf PRIOR to hearing Radioactive. Before that I thought he was boring.

You guys are pretty tolerant of Mobb's albums. Infamous and Hell on Earth are the only ones I care to listen to.

| Jadakiss is pretty much the poster boy for this particular thread because he's actually trying (Drake & Wayne collabo? smh)...
Blu...eh... Below The Heavens is gonna be the album he's measured by for the rest of his life. Even if he got back with Exile, that would fall short in the eyes of fans too. Dude simply can't win. J&J was doo-doo...CRAC capitalized off of his buzz, but it was ultimately forgettable. Replay value is something that lacks in the new era of rap music...

| The only reason I would say that P doesn't qualify is because, despite quality releases, he lacks mass appeal. Jada was clearly the standout of the group (peep his old freestyles...crazy in their day) and people were expecting him to go for self and blow the fuck up. While he achieved some moderate success, he never really hit that next level. I think the red tape that Puffy made him and his group cut through is part of the reason as well... | |

I hear that. But the point of this thread was not only about rappers who had mass appeal potential. Its about any rapper you were really following or feeling that may not have met your personal expectations music quality or career wise.
