Due to the years of convo between most members on this forum. Most of us pretty much think we know each others taste. We all have been put into one main lane no matter how many list we have posted that could prove other wise.
So just for fun I want everyone to name 5 rappers/grps, albums or songs people may be surprised you really like or luv. Or they may be in your top whatever list. Let's see if some of us can really show we are not as one dimensional as our debates may make us seem.

Here's five rappers that I consider fav's of mine for different reasons and they all crack my top 100
Jeru Da Damaja Sadat X Guru Q-Tip Brother J
I catch myself feeling like I have to defend certain rappers or sounds that always seem to need defending or given props. So since I can come off very aggressive about say a Willie D or Dayton Family that does mean that is all I like or luv. I just know most hip hop heads lean more toward the east coast sound than any other coast or region so its rare I have to defend an east coast artist.

I liked tracks like Tonight, Just Like Compton, etc.... I just didn't think I could deal with him for an entire CD. It would have been something I would have listened to every now and then when I wanted to hear some Quik. However, I can definitely admit that I was wrong....Especially, when the production caught up with his lyricism which is why I like Rhythmalism & Safe and Sound the best out of his catalog. The production on those, Balance & Options and Under The Influence is ridiculous.
I definitely favor underground east coast... the more technical the lyrics the better. I'm not really concerned with production. The less polished, grimey, the better actually. Unless it just sounds awkward (Art of Dying, Sabacalypse).
I think I usually make it a point to discuss anything I like that doesn't fit my comfort zone, but i'll list a few.
Big Moe E-40 (hit or miss, albumwise) Nappy Roots (WC&G is easily in my top 5 albums) Doggystyle doesn't really fit my MO, but I think everyone likes it
I also like everything I've heard from Big Jess... Felt 3 is excellent to me.
Some people might be surprised that I don't like: Canibus Black Moon... most BCC, really Big Pun Raekwon Cannibal Ox

hmm...lets see here i listen to a really broad range of rap, i give a lot of things a chance and often find myself finding new clicks and subgenre's all of the time. Im not sure how to answer this question since im not sure how people see my tastes but people might be surprised to find i like these guys
Bushwick Bill as a solo artist MC Breed Sadat X Three 6 Mafia (their earlier stuff more) Rah Digga
the past year or so ive also been getting heavily into the Bay ares rap scene...it really is one of the best kept secrets out there, and the best thing about it is the fans are so die hard and the artists are all collaborators with each other nothin but respect from one artist to another for the most part...guys like Mac Dre, Mac Mall, Nickatina, 2-Illeven, E-40, Jacka, Keak Da Sneak, PSD, Messy Marv, San Quinn have all become staples of what i listen to. Also the Sacramentao scene ive dug DEEP into...aside from Brotha Lynch who ive always been a fan of im pretty much big into the whole siccmade/black market click now...X-Raided, P-Folks, G-Macc, Sicx, First Degree the DE, Loki...also Lunasicc, Hollow Tip, Young Dre D...
ive never been a fan of "newer" or less established rappers who rap about rap. If you were one of the pioneers you you did it right Guru, KRS, Rakim doing it back then was cool. But im NOT really a fan of MCs like , Joe Budden (not at all), Joell Ortiz, Crooked I (overrated too), Atmosphere, Kendrick Lamar (from what ive heard), Termanology (alright but overrated IMO), Skyzoo (again hes alright), Drake, and mot of these other tight jean wearing young rappers

Your feelings regarding Quik are exactly the same as mine. Dude has now cracked my Top 40 MC's.
Besides Quik, the other four would be....
Nappy Roots Tech N9ne (he's hit or miss with me, but when he's on he's REALLY on!) Cunninlynguists Guilty Simpson

Good topic here. I can certainly name 5 artists/albums/songs that others may be surprised I like.
Rick Ross- I own Trilla, Deeper Than Rap, Teflon Don, and the Maybach Music Group compilation album. At first I wasn't feeling him, however, he started to grow on me once he dropped the Albert Anastastia EP.
Lil Wayne's Tha Carter series- I don't own, nor like, Tha Block Is Hot. I don't own 500 Degreez, Lights Out, Rebirth, or I Am Not A Human Being. His Carter series I do like as you can see, lol.
I like Ace Hood's "Hustle Hard" remix with Rick Ross & Lil Wayne.
I'm not a huge fan of Drake, but I do like "Light Up" (f/ Jay-Z) "Successful", and "Best I Ever Had".
I have a burned CD with a few Young Jeezy songs, mainly because I won't buy any of his albums.
Gotta update this one, lol. I no longer care for that Ace Hood track. My feelings still remain the same for those Drake tracks, as well as Jeezy, however, those Rick Ross and Lil Wayne albums are no longer in my collection thank God. They shouldn't have been there in the first place. Everyone does make mistakes right, smh, lol.

You come off open minded to me. I really do not have you pigeonholed in a certain style or sound. Same with Slang and Myers. You play it pretty safe around here also so maybe that adds to your mystery.

If you like the early Cash Money CDs like 400 Degreez, Chopper City In The Ghetto and Guerilla Warfare then you should grab The Block Is Hot, Wayne.

Rick Ross (I own all of his albums)
Wiz Khalifa (my recent guilty pleasure, his older stuff is pretty decent mainly production wise but his flow is okay, his lyrics below average, but he is still someone I'll play every now and again)
DJ Quik (samething that Highsmith and KJ said about him is the way I felt about him too, shit honestly before I thought he was kinda wack but since really listening to him due to this forum (Kev in particular) I have found out that he is far from wack and actually no joke, now that I own most of his stuff I have found him to be a pretty consistent artist in terms of being dope)
Ghetto Mafia-I've always thought that these ATL dudes were dope....they have a totally different rapping style but I've always liked it....
Do Or Die-a pretty dope group out of Chi-town that I like alot...their first 2 albums were my favorite ones from them.....

I heard all of these albums you listed Highsmith, especially thanks to some of my cousins because they used to bump the hell out of these back in 99. They won't be part of my collection though.

HOLY. SHIT. BALLS.
That is by far the most surprising comment from this thread. Props for putting that out there Powell. It actually changes my image of you completely, lol.
I have a permanent seat on the proverbial fence so I doubt anyone would be surprised about anything I listen to. I like a little bit of every genre across the board. Perhaps you all may not have known, though, that I am a huge fan of the Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Elton John. Classic rock in general is what I enjoy most outside of Hip Hop.

Wiz does sound dope over dope production... I dig like 10 songs from him all with hot beats... he sounds good on em... but put Wiz on some weak production and he sounds like a fucking wack emcee.

I like about 20 songs from dude but I co-sign what you just said completely....
Wiz is NOT a dope emcee even with the decent production, but he reminds me of Busy Bee...he is this generation's Busy Bee...he's the ultimate party emcee...who talks about absolutely nothing, has below average lyrics, boasts alot about himself, and has decent production which is all of the stuff that Busy Bee had....
lol....Wiz Khalifa is this dude man, minus the legendary status...Busy Bee was a legend...Wiz has a long way to go but I appreciate Wiz for bringing back the party style...hip-hop was getting too serious and it started in the parties...so big-up to Wiz for helping that element to comeback....

That's very interesting that you say that about him being a party rapper. I had a convo with a 19 year old kid that works for me, he was asking me about the music that I was playing and why it seemed that all older cats liked violent, angry rappers. He said the older generations seem like they always wanna be hard. I asked him who he likes and who he thinks is this generations big star. He said Wiz, because he represents the bullshit and party scene and that's what everybody is into now. Now, it may have been just this particular kid, but I found it interesting that "being hard" was something to mock for him. It was just par for the course in my school days.
And I agree with what you guys said, Wiz is not a dope rapper by any account but he does make good songs and has a lot of good production. His stoner songs are especially good to me. And I probably shouldnt admit that I let her listen to him but my 5 year old daughter's favorite song righ now is Wiz's "Star of the Show." You should hear how cute she sounds saying "big shot, only number one, everybody wanna be a supa star!" lmao

I'm not a Curren$y stan or anything, but he's far better than Wiz. Any Wiz fan should like Curren$y as well.
Did you hear the Curren$y/Wiz Khalifa mixtape How Fly? I was surprised when I heard that, I actually liked it.

I mostly listen to his 1st LP. I like it because it was so different at the time it dropped. Kinda out there.

That's funny that's how I describe Spiral Walls...still can't get into some of the tracks on that. Word Power has a much more traditional style. I'm actually gonna listen to Word Power 2 ASAP now. I put that on my list of stuff to check out a while back but I kinda forgot about it.

As for me, I'm enjoying the new weed songs. People wouldn't peg me for that kind of person, but they put me in the right mood. I like grimy, yet classy songs like Ghostface's Forever. I don't know, he has an amazing ability to represent the beauty of imperfections in such a way I can't call it.
Ice Cube's The Preditor was a great album! I used to follow ICP up until Great Millenko, and then they lost me. I am also a K-Rino fan.

The DJ Quik comments I find to be kind of shocking. It's good that y'all checked him out though. His production is crazy...
Like Slang, I'll give pretty much anything a shot. I'm not really sure what would surprise anyone here, but here goes...
Drake The Grouch Tech N9ne (how anyone dislikes him is beyond me) Super Chron Flight Brothers Rich Boy DJ Khaled The entire HCP...they can do no wrong in my eyes... Rick Ross (I own all of his albums too)
I'm not sure anything else would come as a shock to anyone. And, really, Drake and Officer Ricky shouldn't either. My last.fm pretty much gives it all away though.
I don't understand everyone's passion for K-Rino at all. It just baffles me. I've spun him time and again and tried to force his music into my album rotations. I guess it's just not meant for these ears to like him...
Trotter, nice call on The Procussions...I got into them backward through Mr. J. Medeiros. And Spice 1 had one helluva run...
Co-sign Parker on the Cannibal Ox comments....them dudes are terrible imo. And while I dig most of the early stuff and a little bit of the newer stuff, I can understand why anyone wouldn't dig the BCC. They've been making the same album for 20 years.

WOW, me and Norf actually have something in common! I've tried to spin dude too but I just can't get into him. He's a pretty good lyricist but he's boring, his production is below average, and the sound of his voice is irritating to me.
Add Curren$y to the list of MC's that you'd be surprised by me liking. He isn't a hardcore fav, but I like the 3 albums I've heard from him thus far.
