I had no idea JBB had such a widespread fan base. I always thought they were local/East coast festival scene.

Have you ever heard Thousands Of One?

Yeah I was sleeping for the longest, C-Money joining Slighty Stoopid got me to check out the majority of the discog that I hadn't heard.

Never heard of Thousands Of One, I'll give them a listen. Maybe they'll be at this years Cali Roots Music & Arts Fest...ton of those bands I've never heard their stuff.

If you liked that track Tran, You're really gonna hit repeat for So Much Pain w/the 2pac Pain beat rid by Rydah J. & Stevie Joe guesting while Matt Blaque on the hook. Check the video for it too.

Yeah, I dig that song, mainly because that beat is one of my fav beats. Even Derrick Powell rapping over it couldn't ruin that beat...lol

Album is pretty good, lyrics are so so, but beats are solid. Trip'n 4 Life blows all the other songs off the album tho, love that joint.

Spins:

Joe Budden - No Love Lost (sucks. terrible production and hooks. maybe a 2/5)
Yonas - The Black Canvas (dope flow and rhymes per usual, but way overly commercial sound for an underground release, 3/5)
Brotha Lynch Hung - Manniblector (ill BLH always kills it, 4/5)

The one with Crook and Ortiz has really dope verses, but the hook is god-awful, same with the one with Royce. The best song is actually/sadly the remix to the wack ass single.

I'd take Royce over Crooked I, but Joe really doesn't fit in with the rest imo. He's usually aight on his solo stuff, but not this time...

Man, this shit was aight. It was different and cool for a change but I don't see how its making any top ten lists, let alone the top spot. It wasn't bad or anything but I guess I was just let down after hearing how great it was. 3.0 after one spin.

I have spun the Black Gold once, it definitely has a good amount of bangers, and some songs I dont care for. Production is bass heavy and hits hard, but some of the production sounds too clubbish for my tastes. Off a listen I'd give about 3.5, but you may like this more than me.

Been a while, what's happening fellas. Recent purchases:

Cunninlynguists "Sloppy Seconds 2"--decent, just needed it to complete my cunninlynguist discog.

Sadistik "Flowers For My Father"--Bought this just because the production lineup caught my eye. Not bad but dude sounds too much like Slug to me.

Jay Rock "Follow Me Home"--I like it, guy sounds so much like Game though. Crazy. Nice album.

"Czarface"--Dope album, probably my fav of the year so far.

Joe Budden "No Love Lost"--Can't get into it. Coaster material.

Kendrick Lamar "Section 80"--Finally found a physical copy. I really like it. Didn't love the production but Kendrick keeps it entertaining.

I was gonna check out that Sadistik for the production as well but I just cant get over his voice/flow. It just comes off as really cheesy IMO. Surprised to see your comment on the production of Section.80. I like it better than GKMC. Anyway.....

Spins:

CZARFACE -- I absolutely love it. Live up to, or even exceeded, the lofty expectations I had for it.

Purpose & Confidence - The Purpose of Confidence -- Really good album. I might have to dig a little deeper into Tragic Allies.

Journalist 103 - Reporting Live -- I thought it was dope, but not quite as good as Gas Mask.

Cunninlynguists - Strange Journey Vol. 2 -- Love it!

Artifacts - Between A Rock & A Hard Place
Lords Of The Underground - Here Come The Lords -- These were an awesome trip down memory lane.

Voice Watson - Voice Yours -- Was an Access HipHop freebie, and surprisingly dope.

Ordered this week:

Swollen Members - Beautiful Death Machine
Demigodz - KILLmatic
Cunninlynguists - Strange Journey Vol. 1
Some Best of Da Youngsta's CD
Akrobatik - Absolute Value (at 3.99 I'm sure it will live up to it's name)

Spins:

Edo G - Intelligence and Ignorance
This shit was pretty cool. I like the beat selection on this joint, it keeps Edo a lil more interesting than usual. He's a dope emcee but he can get boring after awhile.

Raekwon - The Tonite Show
Wow, this shit was boooooring. Fresh and Chef do not complement each other at all, IMO. It just sounded like a mess. The only two songs I was feeling were Double Dragon and Bigger Gun and Mean Doe Green sounded better over both beats.

Planet Asia/Gensu Dean - Abrasions
Super Dope. Only a few missteps but not bad songs, just not as good as the great ones. Add another contender to my top 10 list.

Demigodz - KILLmatic
I have never been a huge fan of the whole Jedi/AOTP camp besides Eso. This album is super dope to me tho. This, Czarface, and Abrasions are def a great way to start my list for '13.

Purchases:

Tame One & Parallel Thought - Acid Tab Vocab......this has been out a couple years but it's my first time hearing it now it's available on CD. I'm always slow to check for digital only releases for some reason

If you liked his album with Del The Funky Homo you will probably like this as well because it's the same producer. Subject matter is more similar to Spazmatic and Leak Bros (not as good as either of them though). Features from Del, Aesop Rock & Breeze Brewin from the Juggaknots. Fans of tame one, artifacts and drugs should be happy with it.

It's already cheap on bandcamp and they threw in 3 free albums with it as well that I haven't listened to yet:

Parallel Thought "The Art Of Sound"
Parallel Thought " Articulation EP"
Gene The Southern Child "A Ride With The Southern Child"

Spins:

PMD - Shade Business (average) and Business Is Business (dope)......PMD has an album coming out with Snowgoons. Sounds like a weird combination but i'll check it out

Big Daddy Kane - Veteranz Day...3 stars....the easy mo bee tracks are the best.

AZ - 9 Livez...dope, few skip tracks. Chop Diesel does a nice DJ Premier imitation

Afu-Ra - Body Of The Life Force...decent MCing, awesome production, overall pretty fucking good

OC - Bon Appetit..used to hate it but it has grown on me. Not bad not bad

OC - Smoke And Mirrors...can't get into it. He doesn't mesh well with this producer who's name I can't think of at the moment

OC - O-Zone Originals.....Dope! Unreleased / rare material from the early to mid 90's. Fans of Word Life and Jewelz should make this a priority.

Also picked up The Doppelgangaz "Hark" and it's dope as usual. They haven't let me down yet. They must be doing well now because this is the nicest packaging they have had so far. Thick digipack with lyrics booklet.

Probably a little below "Lone Sharks" and a bit above "The New Beginning" but I highly recommend all of them. Really dope production and sick lyrics. They remind me a bit of Cella Dwellas but they have more perverse subject matter.

Beats For Brothels Vol. 1 & 2 are cool as well if you are into instrumentals. And they both have some extra tracks with lyrics

Moka Only - Flood....more of the same which is fine
Havoc - Kush.... 1 cent and i wouldn't recommend u pay more than that
Frankie Cutlass - Politics & Bullshit....haven't heard yet but the line up is insane for '97....Kool G Rap, Heltah Skeltah, M.O.P., Big Daddy Kane, Lost Boyz, Sadat X, Keith Murray...
Immortal Technique - The Martyr...from his site...haven't been in the mood to listen
The Weathermen - Conspiracy...cool mix cd from Tame One, Copywrite, Camu Tao and them
Kid Capri - The Tape....in a longbox which was weird...haven't listened to yet
Poetic Justice Soundtrack..... wanted 4 songs for a long time from Dogg Pound, Naughty By Nature, Pete Rock & CL and Warren G & Mr. Grimm

Second hand...
Seagram - The Dark Roads...haven't received it yet....hoping it is in good condition because it cost a bit
The Dove Shack - This Is The Shack....not as good as Twinz or Warren G's debut but recommended if you like that G Funk
Ant Banks - Sittin' On Somethin Phat...just below The Big Badass....underrated producer

rez, is Aesop Rock on that Weatherman? Could you give a more in depth review of it when you get to it? I'd appreciate.

I wasn't paying much attention and only heard it once but i'm pretty sure Aesop wasn't on it.

They rap over other peoples beats. Some more commercial sounding ones than you would be used to hearing them on. Sounds awkward but it doesn't come off that way. A few I recognized were Made You Look - Nas, Fish - Ghostface, React - Erick Sermon, Dead Wrong - Biggie, Back Down - 50 cent. It's mainly MHz and Leak Bros so if you like the idea of them over beats like that id pick it up. El-P also makes an appearance. Yak Ballz was also on it a bit I think

There were still cheap new copies on ebay when I bought it if you're interested. Nearly all of it was new material to me but you may have heard some of it before or at least some of the beats. Also, 2 songs were off Tame One's "When Rappers Attack". The song with Vast Aire also sounded familiar but he repeats himself a lot so I don't know. That was probably the worst track. The two recycled Tame One tracks are dope as fuck so it didn't matter

If you are ok with mixtapes, some recycled more mainstream sounding beats and were a fan of eastern conference records back in the day or liked those compilations they put out you will like this. It sounds more like them than the later Def Jux sounding weathermen

Spins:

Papoose - Nacirema Dream
This album was really impressive. I had low expectations bc Papoose seems more like a mixtape rapper to me but this album is very cohesive and I liked the concepts of the songs a lot. I give it at least a 4 but i'm gonna let it sink in to see how the replay value works out. Seems low at the moment.

Tyler - WOLF
This is easily Tyler's best album IMO. I really dug a handful of songs off each of his previous albums but this one is by far more of complete album. The beats are more consistent and his content is more focused and less random nonsense. 4.0 for me.
