Reks "Staight No Chaser"

Subject: Reks "Staight No Chaser" Sat 12 May 2012, 1:06 pm

Thoughts on the Reks album? When I first got it, I was semi-disappointed in it. For some reason I expect everything I hear from Reks to sound like "Say Goodnight" and when it doesn't, I'm let down. However, after about 10 spins this album is really starting to grow on me. It's solidly in my top 3 for the year. This is the perfect example of why I really like to wait until I'm about 10 spins in to rate anything. I've got no problem giving this a 4.25 right now. Good album, just hope his next release is a little more hardcore.

Its dope. My fav album of the year so far. But Killer Mike may be taking that spot w/ more listens.

The album is nice but it's more REKS than it is Grey Hairs. Still dope though

A track nobody seems to be talking about that I'm really feelin is "Parenthood". This is definitely getting better with each spin. Still hope his next album is a bit harder though.

I cosign with this after listening to this album. It's certainly not better than his album from last year, but it's 4 stars nonetheless.

After thinking about it, I'm going with 3.5 stars for this album instead the 4 I initially gave it. It's a very good album, but doesn't have much replay value like the album he dropped last year.

I'm always down for the G-Mo-B. Just haven't heard any new material or much talk about it. Kinda out of sight outta mind. But when its time to show up i'll be there.

Compared to R.E.K.S. it just seems that there is something missing from this project. I'll go with 3.5-4 stars for now and I will revisit this once I am through with my Killer Mike...K.R.I.T. & Curren$y phase.

Something is missing from this one, and I think I may have a slight idea what that may be, especially compared to R.E.K.S. 4 stars was my initial rating, but immediately afterwards I went with a solid 3.5 stars.

After a few spins I'm confident in a 4 star rating likely to improve. This album is great, Reks' best since Grey Hairs. Yes, it is more mellow than what we're used to from him. I think that's one of the reasons I like it. Diversity is not a common trait in hip-hop artists, I respect it where I see it.

Statik absolutely owns this shit. I could've done without the mixtape tags at the start of the tracks, but I'll get over it.

A redemption from R.E.K.S., which I thought was plain boring.

REKS suffered from poor production choices (mainly the tracks didn't work well together, some of them were just not good), and awkward/forced hooks.

Statik solved those trouble areas.

He does do well over Statik production, however, imo, I don't think this album is better than R.E.K.S., or Grey Hairs for that matter.

When I think Statik & Reks, I think 'This Or That' or 'The One'. I feel like anything less amped then those tracks would be a disappointment.

I will listen to this again but I'll have to disagree with that Parker. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Reks veteran or anything, but I think R.E.K.S. was better than Straight, No Chaser.
