| One of the worst articles I've read in my life: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/17/showbiz/music/nas-album-review-life-is-good-ew/index.htmlWhy paraphrase an article from another site? Especially in such a horrid way? // I haven't listened to the album yet but I'm actually kinda excited for it, it has some potential judging from the tracks he's been releasing (except for Summer on Smash, Swizz Beatz seems intent on fucking up otherwise good albums - check out My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy for a great example). | |

| Ok so here are my impressions after one listen.
It's a good album. Not great, not an AOTY contender, but a pretty good hip hop album.
Nas does a nice job on the mic as you might expect. The beats are an issue of course. I'm pretty sure he chose all of these beats with the idea that none of them should even threaten to overshadow his rapping. As a result, there's a consistent vibe to the album and a somewhat tired atmosphere to it. It was very easy for me to give no attention to the beats, but on some tracks I tuned out both Nas and the background music - some strange phenomenon where I was literally hearing sounds and not parsing them at all (wtf?).
Anyway, the five singles released so far (Nasty, Daughters, Loco-Motive, Accident Murderers, and The Don), and A Queens Story are the best tracks. The version on Spotify I listened to was the deluxe version with four bonus tracks including Nasty (why is this not on the OG version?). You're getting a much lesser album without these tracks. I like them all to some degree - Nasty of course is dope, The Black Bond has a James Bond vibe (no shit) which works really well, Roses is "rainy day" rap that isn't bad, and Where's The Love has a dope beat although the chorus is forgettable. If you want to listen to the album definitely try to get your hands on these tracks. Not sure why Ghetto Dreams with Common isn't on the album, it would have fit in pretty well in my opinion.
Some tracks were pretty damn weak though. There's a section in the middle of the album with wack and/or boring tracks, starting with Reach Out and ending with Back When. Summer on Smash, Reach Out, and You Wouldn't Understand suck, Back When isn't bad but it's a snoozefest, and World's An Addiction is a half-assed concept track with a lame chorus and Nas talking about random "addictions" like finding out someone was into beastiality porn.
I'd also add that the track Cherry Wine with Amy Winehouse (R.I.P.) wasn't very good either. I was never a fan of her singing, and the track itself is just plain forgettable.
Just some first impressions.
I won't give a number rating, maybe you'll read the impressions then.

Except Im not a fan of The Don or Daughters really, but i like Queens Story and Accident Murders and some other.s The hooks are a problem, and yes the beats take no chances, well said

| I disagree. I think the production is pretty nice on this album except for a few really crappy spots. | |

I thought it had one of the few memorable beats on the album. While you're here: http://firstson.bandcamp.com/album/isis-papers-vol-3He's supposed to drop his next album next month... I'm pumped although I haven't seen a tracklist or album cover yet so I wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed back. The mixtape is quality though. I expect more anger on the next LP.
