| VH1 did a break down of the top songs ever but lets do one from a real hip hop fan perspective. I will name one song a day and lets discuss how we feel/felt about said song.....

| LOL@ the neither votes
this song is EASILY top 100....how do you neither a song from which the word hip-hop originated from?? that sounds stupid to me...
the Sugarhill Gang are the ones that introduced hip-hop to the world, and of course Kool Herc (first) and Bambaataa(second) invented the entire genre.
top 100 EASILY! | |

| I agree Powell, this song is objectively top 100 and maybe higher but I gave it just that. I know I like/luv at least 95 more singles than that one but it would make my top 100.
The fundamentals of emceeing is all through that song with the revolutionary use of the break beat. Who does not know the opening words to this song? |

| There is no doubt that the song is important and pioneering. There is no doubt that the song is great, but just on sheer quality, the song has been bested on plenty of occasions. | |

No doubt...I hate when folks overrate it also. |

| Terry I didn't say the song was a top 10 or 20 song of all-time
of course the song has been "bested" as you said many times over....I could name probably 5,000 songs I like better than it, but objectively this song is EASILY a top 100 hip-hop song of all-time man....it's too important to the genre not to be
@SRP...Run-D.M.C. had different accomplishments man...I thought you already did your homework on them and knew the difference??

| Where's all the top 25 votes?
Top 25 all day for me. As far as '79 hip-hop goes, I don't like too many songs much more. Besides Funky 4+1 "That's The Joint"...which is in my top 10 or so.

I agree for the most part Powell, but you can really name that many songs you like more? Seems odd from an old-schooler like yourself.

top 100 EASILY! Co-Sign, this is EASILY one of the best songs of all time. Voting against this song is crazy. Of course we're dealin with young bucks so I'm not surprised by the neither votes, but it still disgusts me. I vote Top 50. |
