| I hear him just fine...
What I mean is that, from what I hear, he's a mediocre rapper totally held up by good production. Without Dre stamping him when he did, he'd still be making wack tracks with JT The Bigga Figga.

There are tons of average mc's who are bolstered by top notch production though. it's the way they sound over the production. it's their voice, flow, delivery, etc......

I understand that. But his voice, flow, delivery, etc is what makes him mediocre to me. That mediocrity is presented over tight beats, so it's less noticeable for some. But it's not less noticeable to me. He has a track on DJ Khaled's We Global album that I thought was dope, but it was mostly because of the beat. I downloaded his entire discography and it was the one common element in each album. When the beat lacks, his mediocrity shows even more. Nothing he says will ever make me (or anyone else, really...fans included) say wow...

| I don't know Nor, your ear for harder edge music outside the east is suspect sometimes. If you don't hear the lyrics in games songs then you just are not in tune with his type of message.
Check these lyrics:
The word bunny, is nothin' like bunny Don't sound shit alike - like Game, like Jigga One came before the other, like aim and pull the trigga One is slang for my brother, one is hang and take a picture The rope ain't tight enough, he still alive, go fix it Pour some gasoline on him, call his daughters black bitches Make 'em pick cotton, while they mama cleanin' up the kitchen Same cotton in white T's, that's the cotton they was pickin' If Dr. King marched today would Bill Gates march? I know Obama would but would Hilary take part? Great minds think great thoughts The pictures I paint, make the Mona Lisa look like fake art I feel the pain of Nelson Mandela Cause when it rains it pours, I need Rihanna's "Umbrella" for Coretta Scott's tear drops, when she got the phone call that the future just took a fuckin' head shot... I wonder why Jesse Jackson ain't catch him before his body dropped Would he give me the answer? Probably not... |

| Who said anything about lyrics? His flow is basic. His production hides this. I don't think I've ever called his albums bad. I'm a realist. I'm not going to crown him king if he's rhyming words like trigga and Jigga. You kind of made my point for me. Nothing in those lyrics is too hard to understand. Let's not make it sound like it's a complex, esoteric kind of message. Very straightforward, very easy to understand. I don't want Busdriver rhymes, but I don't want Cat in the Hat either.
You're going away from the point either way...
And, if Game is "harder edge" to you, then I'm not the one with the suspect ear. You like to try to play that card a lot. Go take a look at the "recent spins" thread, man.

| Even though I voted for him, I completely agree that Game is an average rapper. With that said, I think Immortal Technique was the subject of a lot of overrating when Rev. vol. 2 was making its waves. | |

But this also shows you do not pay attention well either I said you do not have the ears to appreciate harder edge or morw simple but effective lyricism that means something. You may be looking for bigger words, stronger methaphors, or more deeper subject matter. Anything otuside of that you have poor judgement. Dont front you know I got you open. |

I disagree with that entirely. Rev Vol 2 is easily one of the best of the decade and I.T. is arguably the best political rapper since Chuck D. |

I can totally see that. Makes a lot of sense... When grading the two against each other, I'd much rather have that IT album, though.

You're still going away from the point (we're talking about The Game, not me)... Either way, you're still wrong. You don't know my listening habits well enough to know what I'm hearing. Also, what kind of ears do you need to appreciate "a harder edge or more simple but effective lyricism"? I already said it's "very straightforward, very easy to understand"...that would imply that I get it and certainly do have the ears for it. And your constant need to label every listener that isn't a gangsta enthusiast with generic stereotypes is why you misunderstand more often than not. You immediately reach for metaphors, bigger words, and deeper content as to suggest that it has to be one extreme or the other. There's a middle, Kev...and that's where I dwell. Simple as that. I can name 20 of my favorite rappers that don't fit your description that would fall under the gangsta umbrella. Quit trying so hard to peg me (it clearly isn't working) and come up out of that box you're in. I own more gangsta rap than you do and have the pictures to prove it. I simply choose to listen to more than that. You don't have anybody open...

See that is where we both are wrong because I do not listen to only "gangsta" rap as a matter of fact I hate that word caught on to peg harder style of music. I am also more on the middle road where I may prefer rappers who can kick street tales whether positive or negetive and also talk about life as a impoverish kid or person. I also like rappers who talk about living life and making it out of bad situations. I am not the biggest fan of str8 up full album after album of just senseless "gangsta" rap. If you have noticed I have mentioned how I stopped listening to Spice and Eiht because of limited subject matter. Or how 3-6 Mafia or RBL Posse for example is not one of my fav grps. And just because you may own more gangsta rap than I do means nothing if you do not connect with them or play them regular. Hell you got more cd's than most on the east coast because you are a collector of music. Means nothing brother. |

| Connect? Seriously? Play them regular(ly)? Now you're just posting for the sake of posting... Are you suggesting I just have them just to say I have them? That I haven't listened to them? That they don't get spun on the regular? Again...check the recent spins thread. I play music that suits my mood. I'm not always in the same mood, my music choices reflect that. Simple. Stop spinning and admit you don't know what you're talking about right now. I don't live vicariously through my favorites or anything odd like that. I know what sounds good to my ear. It's all here to entertain me. Nothing more. Nothing less. Three 6 Mafia is still a favorite of mine. I have every HCP album ever made except for La Chat's album and maybe one other. That's not something a person looking for metaphors, big words, or deep content wastes money collecting. We're all collectors. That argument has no legs whatsoever, brother... | |
