| LS
put some better albums up. kev put albums you think are the best of the 90s so we can get them outta the way now, instead of puttin them in at the end so they have an easy win. like the bullshit that happened with the album of the year threads

| I'll go with Liquid Swords on this one but I'm really beginning to believe that heads on this forum think that Liquid Swords is the album of the 1990's and if that's the case then I'm going to say LMAO of course this is IN MY OPINION but no fuckin way did GZA make the album of the 1990's.....he didn't even make IN MY OPINION the best solo album among Wu-Tang members...that would go to Raekwon-Only Built For Cuban Linx.....I have Ghostface-Ironman in front of this one too Liquid Swords is a very good album, with really good production on it by RZA (not his best though IMO..that would go to Enter The Wu-Tang 36 Chambers and Only Built For Cuban Linx..both of those IN MY OPINION have better beats on them than this one does)...and GZA as lyrical as he was on this one has a pretty boring monotone type flow...he always has...no one normally remembers a GZA moment in hip-hop outside of this forum...at least not around my way...but everyone I know respects Liquid Swords but not enough to make it the greatest album of possibly the greatest period in hip-hop history(the 1990's)...in other words it's good but it ain't that damn good IN MY OPINION! The 1990's gave us probably the best hip-hop music ever recorded outside of the mid to late 1980's and if GZA wins for the 1990's I can respect that but I totally disagree with it and still think that's funny...well enough of my rant for the day..lol..today goes to Liquid Swords again.. Hey Kev throw some more albums at it that you think will knock it off it's Floyd Mayweather perch man..lol..good luck man..lol | |

| I agree Powell Liquid Swords is not that dang great but it meets the taste of most of the hardcore undaground style cats on this forum. Imo that is one of the main reasons its winning.
I haven't nominated one album that is not considered a classic by someone yet so its not my fault y'all get voting for the same album. |

Right, cause it's obvious that a well rounded listener couldn't possibly prefer Liquid Swords to Death Certificate or Illmatic.

However, i'm not the one complaining about the outcome either.

I dunno about that. I think it has a chance against OB4CL. It definitely ain't beatin 36 Chambers though. |

| I dunno there are a lot of dudes who prefer OB4CL to LS. I just don't see LS beaqting it. I hope i'm wrong though. 36 Chambers vs. LS would be an impossible decision for me, but i think i'd give it to 36 Chambers. | |

I'd probably pick OB4CL because I reach for it slightly more, but quality wise it's a complete push. I think it'd be a close battle though because there are others that prefer LS. 36 Chambers would blow either of them out though. |

Hey Terry what is your favorite hip-hop album of the 1990's man?? and why?? Same for you KJ?? and why?? You too Cory?? and why?? Mine is between Illmatic and Midnight Marauders..why?? well because IN MY OPINION those two contain the BEST beats and concepts..and in Illmatic's case probably the best lyrics contained on one disc in the 1990's there are so many timeless songs on each disc...songs that IN MY OPINION no other discs at least in the 1990's come close too Illmatic: New York State Of Mind The World Is Yours Represent It Ain't Hard To Tell One Love Midnight Marauders: Electric Relaxation Award Tour Lyrics To Go God Lives Through Oh My God COMPLETELY TIMELESS songs IN MY OPINION... the only albums IN MY OPINION that comes close to these efforts from the 1990's are Wu-Tang Clan-Enter The 36 Chambers Raekwon-Only Built For Cuban Linx Outkast-ATLiens and that's about it...now there are a bunch of stellar albums from that decade but IN MY OPINION those are the only ones that come close to the ones I previously mentioned... Anyone else that wants to give their take on this feel free debate is good for the soul...lol

| hmm, The albums in my top 10 from the 90's are Me Against The World, Death Certififcate, Aquemini, Liquid Swords and Enter The Wu Tang(36 Chambers).
Out of those 5, i would choose Wu's debut. The production is among the best of the decade. We all know the lyrics are on point, and i challenge anyone to name an album more original, important, and influential from this time period. There may be some albums that meet one of the criteria, but i don't think there is any that has all three.
As far as timeless songs go, i think C.R.E.A.M, Protect Ya Neck, Bring Da Rukus, Method Man, Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nothing To Fuck With, Can It Be All So Simple, and Shame On A N**** would more than fit the bill

| As you know Powell, Illmatic is my favorite album of all time. The other albums from the 90's in my Top 10 are The Low End Theory, Ready To Die, 36 Chambers, The Chronic, and OB4CL.
I agree with your take on Illmatic, although every song on that album is timeless. It's hip-hop's Thriller IMO.
While I'm a fan of Midnight Marauders, I like The Low End Theory better. Scenario, Check The Rhime, Buggin Out, Excursions, We've Got The Jazz, Butter, and Vibes & Stuff are my favs from that album.
I also co-sign what Terry said about 36 Chambers. |

| I would probably pick Commons Resurrection as my favorite 90s album. I loved every beat on the album and would take them over the type used on Illmatic. I liked that jazzy/hardcore vibe the album had. I dont know what the word is to describe it but its a more vibrant/live album then a lot of other commonly praised 90s albums. The lyricism is dope, but as good as Illmatic but theres more to a great tape then just lyrics. IMO Commons album had a large number of classic tracks. I Used To Love Her, Resurection, Chapter 13, Orange Pineapple Juice, Book of Life and many more. This is hip hop have has me noding my head where lots of shit put me to sleep. Other choice i would have are Runaway Slave, Wrath Of The Math, Enter Da Stage, The Low End Theory, The Diary, ATLiens, Death Certificate, Liquid Swords and 36 Chambers.
The thing is when we are talking most influential albums we talk about The Chonic, Illmatic, Criminal Minded, Paid In Full and albums like that. But when we talk about our opinions and what we personally think are top albums i think we need to look at it from a different perspective which is why i would not be voting for albums like Illmatic when it comes to this. I go by my listening habits, not commonly praise albums from a statistical prospective. (Oh and i know some of those albums are not from the 90s, so Shaun no need to be a smart ass and point that out) Like said before Illmatic is a 5 Star album to me and nothing more. I have a good number of 5 star albums from the 90's so what it comes down to it what do i pick up most.
