| Liquid Swords seems unstoppable but here's some more heavy comp from that 90's. Two albums in which one of them will be on anybodies top 10 from the 90's. |

| "Low End Theory" is my favorite album of all time, so I'm going to vote for it. In the end I wouldn't be mad if "Cuban Linx" or "Liquid Swords" would win because they are both classics... | |

| LOL good one Terry
OBFCL should be beating LS. There was so much more to CL than there was LS. The whole loose theme/concept, the impact it had dominates LS' impact, the high intensity bangers to the calmer songs, it had everything LS had and more.

| Well thanks for making this poll boring because there are not many albums that will knock out Liquid Swords with the luv it gets in these parts. Plus the taste of this forum is mostly undaground basic or more traditional boom bap hip hop so I feel no other style of album will have a chance against this album. I know there are a few who dabble in hardcore albums on here but not many who truly dig that style. |

| Naw I hear you Nor but i'm just saying its a preference around here for the most part for the softer side of hip hop. I swear I have no problem with this I just wish people would just own up to that is what they prefer. So with the majority leaning toward that direction that is why these polls always end up with the same results.
For example, if I bring up Mr Mike Wicked Wayz only Terry and SRP are really up on it. We have some on here who i'm sure heard it or even own it but truly connected with it only 3 of us maybe 4. It always limits me when I do these polls because I know if I take "x" jazzy/softcore cd and put it against "x" harder edge and or more mainstream album or southern/midwest/west coast cd its like an automatic blowout. And I truly feel its not just because one is superior than the other just lack of knowledge or more so lack of people on this forum who connect to that sound on the harder or more mainstream album.
I'm sure if I go to Yogi's forum on the west coast the opposite effect would happen where every hard album would dominate the softer edge albums. I just wish it was more diverse listeners around sometimes thats all. |

Sure Gza isnt spitting about street life every track but the album is not SOFT lol. It samples "Shogun Assassin" throughout, arguably one of the most violent movies i have ever seen with some of the most fucked up samples from it on LS. He talks about slaying mc's and brags a lot of the album, drugs, and some street life stories "Picture bloodbaths and elevator shafts Like these murderous rhymes tight from genuine craft" ....soft? no "Callin all cars, callin all cars! Ghetto Psychos, armed and dangerous, leavin mad scars on those Who are found bound, gagged and shot when they blast the spot Victims took off like astronauts Get with this, even your best can't come on down, you're the next contestant! Get your pockets dug from all your Chemical Bank-ins Caught him at the red light - on Putnam Avenue and Franklin" ...soft? NO where are you getting the idea that Liquid Swords is a soft album??? and the beats are nothing but dark this is one of those albums i put on on a rainy day with my hoodie on and just bug out man, not some feel good shit

theres a difference SOC is a "im pissed off and im gonna let you know" hard album LS is a "im gonna take you around the corner and stab you in the back of the head with an ice pick" hard type album

| No Liquid Swords is the you gotta really listen to catch the hardcoreness of it because the delivery is non aggressive and it has a kung fu theme and album title. I'm not calling Liquid Swords str8 soft by any means but when I think of hardcore albums with hardcore topics and lyrics this album does not pop in my mind. |

have you listened to the kung fu samples in there??? they are blatently hardcore/straightup violent
its way more hardcore than the fucking Fix from a sound standpoint, the Fix has poppier beats and Kanye fucking pussy West on the album, yet you probably think the Fix is harder than LS

The Fix obviously had a lighter sound to it. But lyrically it was still on some hard shit on most of it. |

| I get what you mean, Kev. I've checked Yogi's forum. Not bad, but not my speed yet. I see your point.
As far as the lyrics, you're right, you do have to listen to catch certain aspects. It requires a dedicated listen in some cases and some people simply aren't willing to commit that much attention to something like music. Sometimes it's complex, sometimes it's not. But it's never straightforward and easy to latch onto with albums like Liquid Swords or most Wu material. Some refer to what you speak of as watering down the lyrics...you know, for mass consumption.

| Fuck this hard vs smooth shit. All that matters is that the music is dope.
I love ATCQ and De La Soul, but I also love Wu Tang and Geto Boys. Dopeness is dopeness regardless of the style.
BTW Kev, Cold World is one of the darkest Wu songs ever made. It may have a smooth melody, but the lyrics are violent as hell. Kinda like A Minute To Pray and a Second To Die by Scarface. |

I agree. And as far as the watering down the lyrics I know exactly what you mean but at the same time there are more people who enjoy the simple things more so than the complicated or complex. They both can coexsist with the right respect for each others preference imo. I consider myself a more in between where I do not want hear rappers trying to mesmerize me all the time with big words and deep lyrics but at the sametime I do want rappers insulting my intelligence with elementary wordplay and subjects all the time. But I can deal with both just not one if that makes sense. |
