web hosting

So I've been working on creating a website from scratch for about 3 weeks, and I've run into a few snags here and there. How does web hosting work, and what does it do?

Well, unless you actually want to host your site off of your own computer which would need to be constantly on and connected to the internet you would need webhosting for people to access your site. Basically when you pay for webhosting someone hosts your site on their machines which are constantly on and connected online. They allow people to see your site online.

Thanks for clearing that up for me SRP. I'm off to find a cheap host, and a suitable (hopefully free) domain.
