Album Of The 00's Day 1

Props to Jeff for coming up with the idea for these threads. Maybe we can wake up this sleep walking forum with some good ole debates and arguments.

Let's get day one started with 3 helluva albums from this decade.....

Like Water for Chocolate. None are classics, but Common is the closest IMO. We Are The Streets is overrated.

I'm trying to decide between LWFC and WOM....all are good albums to me but I agree not classic. But these threads are not about classics anyway.

I'll go with Common, followed by the LOX

none of these are 5 stars but I'm going in this order:

1.The Lox-We Are The Streets (just some good old fashioned b-boy stance hip-hop right there, no less than 4.50 stars-in my opinion)

2.Common-Like Water For Chocolate (The Light and The 6th Sense carry this album..I'm giving it 4.25 stars)

3.Ludacris-Word Of Mouf (just Luda being Luda..Move Bitch...Rollout and Saturday(oooh,oooh) are the ones I remember most off of it..it was 3.75 stars to me)

How surprising... "We Are The Streets" is not "good old fashioned b-boy stance" - it is street and pop music... good music... but not any b-boy shit.

Hey Pedro..I'm talking about Styles P, Jadakiss, and Sheek Louch...3 dudes who don't do pop..outside of "Do You Thing I'm Jiggy" during the shiny suit era....THE L-O-X baby bubba not Slim Thug or Mike Jones..don't get it twisted..lol

Ruff Ryders=pop, radio friendly music. just because their subject mater is a little more grimey than Eve doesn't mean it wasn't meant for the radio.

"Ryde Or Die Bitch" isn't poppy? It's produced by Timbaland for christ's sake. Good try.

LOX would come in 3rd for me. That album is dope but I agree that is was not the best example of a gritty street ablum. It does have some gritty lryics but the beats were not all the way through.

IMO the beats matched up pretty good with what they where saying....two of the best examples though of a gritty street album is Wu-Tang-Enta The 36 Chambers or BDP-Criminal Minded...IMO!

by the way Kev this idea has jump started the forum somewhat...good job with that one man!

Ahh, now that shit makes sense, and sounds like a good idea. That thread never showed up as unread, so that's why I didn't notice it.

It's a street album made by b-boys IMO...the album itself is not a b-boy album, its a street oriented album, but the cats that made certainly are..Kangols and Adidas are not a requirement to be a b-boy...lol

Tran has a better concept of b-boy music than Powell...hilarious.

I don't recall ever saying anything was required.

All I'm saying to KJ is that no one is hating on the album. They're pointing out it's lack of b-boy aesthetic which you said it had
