Little Brother has SURPASSED the hype. Well to be honest, they are underrated so there hasn't been much "hype" to begin with. I really do like these cats though. I've spun "The Minstrel Show", "The Listening", and "Chitlin Circuit 1.5" frequently over the last several months and feel that they're all classics. "Getback" as well as "And Justus for All" are bangers as well. The latter two albums would have been better with 9th producing them, but they were still hot nonetheless. Phonte and Big Pooh are awesome lyricists, so I'll be coppin this for sure. I really dig their subject matter. They're like the ATCQ of the 21st century. I hope that 9th Wonder shows up on some tracks as well, but even if he doesn't I'm sure that this will be a dope album nonetheless. It does suck that this could be the last one, but if it is I'm sure they'll go out on a high note As for them selling records, in order to do that in this day and age, you need GREAT PROMOTION and not many rappers, solo or group, have that nowadays. Most of the best MC's nowadays have trouble selling mass amounts of records. But regardless of how this joint sells, if it's in the same class as it's predecessors then I won't complain at all. Little Brother is AWESOME, fuck the haters!!! |

| Little Brother was on the same label as Plies. Plies received the same promotion as LB - which was ZERO - yet plies has gone Gold each album and LB has not gone gold with all their albums combined... so save the excuses - they were on a major label they just failed to deliver... |

ARE YOU FUCKIN SHITTIN ME? You're comparing LB to a talentless joke like Plies? You're fucking delusional!! The reason Plies sells is the same reason why other bums like Lil Wayne, Souljah Boy, Young Jeezy, and the like sell, because they're COMMERCIAL! Talent DOES NOT sell nowadays usually, it's all about being marketable and having commercial material. Plies does nothing but rap about money, cars, cribs, hoes, and robbing people, and the young kids today like that shit so they cop it. It DOES NOT make Plies a better artist. Being on the same label doesn't mean dick! Record companies hype people that are commercial. Little Brother is not commercial, and has much deeper subject matter which doesn't appeal to today's youth and that's unfortunate because they're clearly more talented. Don't confuse selling records with being dope, because that's complete and total BULLSHIT! |

Talent like what? Talking about money, cars, cribs, and hoes? Like his generic ass Romper Room lyrics? Little Brother is A TRILLION TIMES more talented than Plies could ever DREAM of being!!! You're confusing bullshit commercialism with talent. |

| OK Kool John... - So explain to me why out of all the commercial rappers in the world... Plies and Jeezy sell records while guys like Ace Hood, Blood Raw, 2 Pistols don't.
I really want to know how you rationalize that... since they are all talentless... |

I really want to know how you rationalize that... since they are all talentless... Jeezy was originally put on by Diddy (Boyz N The Hood) and then had a great production team behind him which allowed Thug Motivation to blow up the way it did. Not to mention big name guest stars like R Kelly, Jay Z, and Akon. That always helps. As for Plies, the pop-bopper crowd loves songs like Shawty and Bust It Baby. Out of those others you mentioned, only Ace Hood really had any noteriety, and that's because he's down with DJ Khaled. He never had that breakout single though. Both Jeezy and Plies are popular with the pop-bopper/female/under 18 crowd, which is why they're so successful. |

| Jeezy was not put out by Diddy... he blew up BEFORE Boyz N The Hood... so that is wrong on that part.
But you admit that Jeezy has better production than LB and is better respected than LB since Jay Z was on his album ...
And why does Plies sell RECORDS, not just ringtones or singles, but albums if he is just popular among the pop bopper crowd which does not buy records? |

I disagree about having better production. 9th Wonder was AWESOME! So what about Jigga being on Jeezy's album though, he was also on Rick Ross' debut. And the pop-bopper crowd buys WAY MORE albums than the real hip-hop heads. At least in the East Coast. Most guys around here just pirate music, or have a friend buy it and burn them a copy. |

That, sir, is simply an innacurate statement. BET Hip-Hop Award nominations, ringtone commercials, guest spots, 106 & Park rotation from a channel that refused to air LB videos, etc... Plies got more promo than LB. Not only that, they aren't even comparable in that context because they were never label mates. On the same label, yes. Label mates, no. LB got dropped before Plies ever released an album. Just a clarification...

| Sorry, Norf. I wasn't kidding so much as not really being fond of KJ's excuse making up there. I'm not a fan of Plies or Little Brother, but I don't really think that either side here is giving the other any credit. It's the same fued that seems to have been going on since Link started this forum, and it's kinda ridiculous. I know that you don't mean to take sides Norf, and you're just stating your opinion, but you have to understand the frustration of people that happen to like hip hop outside of a coast and time period. |

Just a clarification... I never said they were label mates - I said they were on the same label - which they were - and I don't think Atlantic changed much in the year or two between that would warrant that even mattering. Add to that the fact that all that "promo" you mention was a RESULT of Plies' hustle and popularity and not the CAUSE of it. You only get nominated for an award AFTER the fact, ringtone commercials AFTER your song becomes popular, guest spots AFTER you're a proven rapper that can sell. The only theory that may hold is that 106 and Park may have found it easier to rotate Plies than LB, but most of what you mentioned is not promo. |

| Plies style of rap is in and for the ladies he's easy on the eyes...LB style of rap is not in mainstream wise and no major outlets are checking for them in a major way. That is the main reason Plies sales more than LB. Plus simplier tunes have always out sold more complex tunes in every genre. Nothing new about that. |

Exactly. It's like putting Talib Kweli, Black Moon and Nelly on the same record label then being proud that Nelly out sold them.

Simply not true... because there were times when Talib and Black Moon sold well. People need to stop making so many excuses for their favorites when it comes to not selling... simply put - LB made an OK CD for their major label debut, marketed it like idiots and that is why they didn't sell. |

I only see the divide because Pooh sucks balls. In the ironic words of Phonte "That's why I love wack n----s. Thank's for making my shit sound so tight..." That's pretty much what LB consisted of -- one ok dude and one garbage dude that made the ok dude sound that much better. It's like the average looking chick that only hangs with ugly, fat chicks. lol Dude was tolerable on the debut, but I can't call anything he's on a classic outside of The Listening. I just vibed with that album on a level that almost never happens anymore. It wasn't necessarily their flows or lyrical prowess, but everything came together perfectly on that album, IMO. I've been calling Pooh garbage for years, though (which is why M. Smith and his many aliases came after me in the first place), and caught a lot of shit for it. I guess the hype had to cool off. Who knows... Jeff, North Carolina is below the Mason-Dixon line. It's considered a southern territory by everyone outside of Iowa. Just an FYI... lol

Both Phonte and Big Pooh are better than Royce. Y'all talk about Royce like he's a GOAT or something. He's like the 3rd best MC in Slaughterhouse! Budden and even Crooked I are better. |

| I agree with your last statement. That said, Royce murdalizes Phonte and Big Pooh. |

LB's not from the East Coast, dumbass! Seriously though, I just don't see the greatness in Royce. If Street Hop turns out to be a great album, it'll ONLY be because Primo's producing it. Guru's an average to above average MC, and look at the magic they've made together! Royce is on a level with guys like Cassidy and Fabolous. He spits memorable shit at times, but nothing mind blowing. Death Is Certain is like 3.75-4 stars at best. LB's first three albums all trump it, DIC's on par with Getback. |
