Pounds I only gave my opinion off one listen and you just had to take it deeper huh? Everyone only read the "negative" part of my small comments but no one even mentioned the positive I said about the album. Thats fucked up. I don't really care, because I'm the one that listens to my music. There's 2 sides to every coin. People looks for different things in music. I typically do not go for the type of rappers you go for. Plain and simple. What I posted was just as backhanded as your complimentary comments of the album. Take it however you want... @ Jason: Feel the way you like, man. No problems here. Can't say I agree at all, as previously stated. Different strokes for different folks. I'll be banging the Shad drum for years to come. Just like I have since 2007. My listening experience/enjoyment will not be tainted by differing opinions. I simply love the Shad albums that much, and my comments come from replay value, pure and simple. If I can't stop playing an album, it is what it is to me - a classic.

I like to hear the Del lyric there. lol...Del did say it first, right? Anyway, you may have have thought my post of hostile, but I really don't care that much. Just enough to retort and make my opinion clear. Is that ok? I basically said we go for different kinds of rappers. Is that not true?

I'm inconsistent in this respect, though. I go through periods where I like a certain sound, then I drop it and get into something else for awhile.
If you consider it 4.5 stars then it's gotta be pretty dope to you. Since everybody is talking about this album, I'll download it along with The Old Prince and then let y'all know what I think. |

Co-sign completely. It's a dope cd, just really REALLY not my thing. This isn't a "mood" thing for me, though, I don't like hearing dudes rap about living in their parents house and shit like that. No disrespect, just not for me. I think you'd dig it, KJ. |

Positive themes and humor? I'm personally a sucker for both. Sometimes I can't stand rappers who take themselves too seriously.

There's definitely nothing like that on there, KJ. And the song Jeff is referring to is just about my favorite song on The Old Prince. It's a hilarious song. If you dig some humor in your rap, you'll dig it.

Exactly. Its good but nothing any other rapper on that level can't spit. Like I said he's an average lyricist who i'm sure at times flexes above average to even maybe good lyricism. |

| Well jason has unique tastes so I can't really ever tell what he would consider "good" - as for you kevin.. based on that verse alone Shad is more lyrical than guys like game, willie d, or kanye - which you love... so it all comes down to a matter of preference...which I think is all anyone has ever said. |

SRP you don't even believe that so stop playing. Shad couldn't even rap in the same room with none of them let alone be compared lyrically to them. I know you want to defend your new boyfriend but stop being so dang silly. |

| I think he was just pointing out an example of what he feels is good use of similes.
The problem with similes is that they stick out, and they're good for a quick, direct comparison, but too often rappers pile them one on top of the other, with little relation between them. Metaphors are almost always stronger and more efficient, but not many rappers have really caught on to that, they just follow the same old simile formula.
Mostly, I'm looking for some creative thought, good poetic technique (where those devices translate to lyrics, which they don't always), and a unique lyrical voice (i.e. I could read a verse and have some inkling about who might have written it, without hearing it).

| Dope fucking album, favorite song off the album off the third listen is Listen. I love that he's giving props to both the old and new school artists that he listens to, instead of giving props to just the old school artists that paved the way (nothing wrong with that, but it's refreshing for me to hear him big up his peers). I dig this one more than Old Prince, this is my type of shit right here. Top 5 so far. | |

| Damn right Tran!
How the hell most people like The Old Prince more than T.S.O.L. baffles me. I've been bumping this since early May and it still beats the old one after a shit load of listens. It's just plain better in every way...even though I love them both.
Still #1 album of the year IMO....by a good margin too.
