| Lets take another look at this album. The album is decent but ain't touching his previous effort. But the signifecance of this album is that it reached GOLD status. Yep, people tend to forget this piece of vital information. This also proves that 97 and98 was hip hop's last good years. Its remarkable that KRS over 10 years deep in the game was able to lay a golden egg. How many east coast rappers are able to do this? Some credit its sells to the P.Diddy remix of the Rapture, but it had to take more than that,,it was solid songs through-out. This is a unique album that defied the odds but somehow remians kind of forgot about. I place this album after KRS's LIFE and before Sneak Attack | |

I always thought this was a very good album myself. I also feel that 97 was one of hip hop's last good years. |

| I Got Next is a 4 star album. Rapture is among my fav KRS tracks and this album had very good production. Those that frowned upon it did so because it was KRS' worst effort to that point, but if a 4 star effort is your worst when you're on your 7th album, then you've had a Hall Of Fame career so I was satisfied. |

| A good 4 star record IMO. But has nothing to do with the state of hip-hop at the time IMO. | |

| I thought this album was a 3 star effort from Kris...it was good effort but as others have said coming off of all the critical success the man had already had this album was kind of a letdown in comparison to his other works.....
Step Into A World (one of his best songs in his catalog IMO) The MC A Friend with Redman
those are the best ones on the album...the Diddy (remix) of Step Into A World wasn't horrible either....
3 stars sums it up for me!

| Co-sign Pounds and Slang. judged on its own merits, it's a solid 4 star album, but when compared to his previous work(fair or not), it's a slight disappointment. | |

But as I said before, if a 4 star album is your weakest effort to date then it's hard to complain. Especially when you're on your 8th album and you've dropped anywhere between 4 and 6 classics objectively. |

I'm plenty satisfied with a 4 star album, but it doesn't get very spins from me for obvious reasons

| Gotta spin this one. It's been so long that I forgot what it sounds like. It's hard to give so many albums equal rotation. | |

Who said it did? You did, when you said "This also proves that 97 and 98 was hip hop's last good years.". Then Wayne also agreed with you and said "I also feel that 97 was one of hip hop's last good years.".

Ditto. And I have I Got Next at 4.5 stars. KRS made this album to prove a point. The critics were on his back saying that he did not have commercial appeal (I remember the artical in the Source), just because all of his albums targeted a different crowd. Not only does this album remain his best selling, it shut the critics up. And the Sprite commercials were to create a buzz for the album.
