Classic albums that you can't seem to get into

Simple. Name some albums that are considered classics amongst the hip-hop community you just can't seem to get into.

Hmm, the first one that comes to mind is Aesop Rock's Labor Days. I've tried multiple times, and i just don't love the album. It's my fav from him, but i simply don't hear classic in the album.

I think I honestly prefer None Shall Pass to Labor Days, but both are classics IMO.

Classic album I can't get into: Shad-The Old Prince

"Capital Punishment" by Big Pun. I know dude had mad skills, but i've never been able to get into his music.

My vote goes to The Score by The Fugees...never could get into most of that one

The Roots - Game Theory. I love The Roots but this is probably my least favorite from them. I just can't get into it for some reason.

I can get into Funcrusher Plus and can even understand why some hail it as classic even though I don't. Co-sign the other two. Cold Vein may be themost overrated album ever.

Shaun...Linker... you're both high. Bizzarre Ride and The Score are classics without question and that is a FACT. lol

I don't know too many people that consider Capital Punishment a classic. If they do, they're buggin'...IMO...

I love both of those albums, but neither of them are classic IMO.

Dwight, I think the reason you can't get into GT is because it's blended with rock music. But I thought they did a great job with it. It's my 4th fav Roots album. My least fav would be Phrenology. All of them are great though, and their first 3 are slam dunk classics.

I don't really count Organix, since it wasn't even released in America until 1998.

Life After Death
All Eyes on Me
Uptown Saturday Night - awesome album but not classic to me

Jay-Z-The Blueprint (I like this album and know it's a classic but it's nowhere near one of my favorites from him)


2Pac-All Eyez On Me-I've already talked about this one before...3 stars at best IMO


Ghostface-Supreme Clientele-I'm only listing this one not because I can't get into it but because I don't feel it's a classic...I feel it's a 4.5 star effort which would mean it's very good and very close but it's not a classic IMO


Outkast-Stankonia-another album that I like but I don't feel its anywhere close to being a bonafide classic...I've got it at 4 stars!


I've got a few more picks but these are the first ones that came to mind for me!

I co-sign AEOM and Stankonia. They're good albums and I can listen to them, but they're overrated IMO.

Other picks include.....

Group Home- Livin Proof: Great production, but Dap and Malachi's rhymes are really sub-par IMO and keep this one from reaching classic status. 4 star album at best.

Naughty By Nature- 19NaughtyIII: I like this album a lot, but it's got a few skip tracks IMO and it's not on the level of their classic debut. I give it 4.5 stars.

DJ Quik- Quik Is The Name: I've been spinning Quik quite a bit over the past few months and now own 5 of his albums. This one is about 4.25-4.5 stars IMO. Very good album, but I like Rhythm-A-Lism and Safe + Sound better personally.

UGK- Too Hard To Swallow: Dope album, but is easily trumped by the two albums that immediately followed it (Super Tight and Ridin Dirty) and a few skip tracks on it for me. I give it 4 stars.

And to Norf, I co-sign your feelings about The Score and Bizarre Ride, they're slam dunk classics, but so are Reasonable Doubt, People's Instinctive Travels, and No One Can Do It Better.

Norf.........you take back what you said about "No One Can Do It Better" or my feelings are really going to be hurt.

Agree to an extent. I understand why its so loved but I feel its a bit overrated and not even close to the quality of MM.
