Simply put Jamiroquai is the greatest musical group I've ever come across and that is NO exaggeration. Up until discovering this group, Tribe has held that title for a good 6 years or so. I am shocked that it took me this long to stumble upon this group but I'm very grateful that I did. Jamiroquai is a British jazz/funk/disco/dance/electronica group who has essentially changed its core sound over each album they have produced. From the organic, laid-back vibes in this album to the harder hitting rhythms of Dynamite this group has something for everyone. The lead man for the group is named Jay Kay and has been compared (MANY TIMES) to Stevie Wonder which is quite some praise. The rest of the group consists of a bunch of musicians who are shuffled in and out between albums but who are supremely talented.
I kid you not...I listen to this group for hours each day (sometimes into the wee hours of the morning).
This debut album is about as good as a debut album can get with it going platinum and soaring to number 1 on the UK Album Chart.
I will be doing a review of each of their albums because each brings unique elements to the table.
If you need a link hit me up.

This group is absolutely not for everyone. If you aren't down with funk/disco/dance then you most likely won't enjoy them.
Hip hop has been quite ordinary and boring recently so I'm making a conscious effort to branch out and expand my music tastes outside its realms.

Some suggestions: Amon Tobin, Do Make Say Think, the album in my avatar.

I read somewhere in a Redman interview that if he could work with anybody it would be Jamiroquai. He also said he had the biggest foot fetish of anybody in the game haha

Anyway, Jamiroquai is and always was a fantastic group IMO. Big fan of "Return Of The Space Cowboy" & "Synkronized".
I bet everyone remembers Napoleon Dynamite dancing to "Canned Heat". Classic song:

Its hard to rank each of their albums because each has its own "unique" sound. EOPL and Dynamite are probably my favorites but on another day it could be either of the others. EOPL gets the most playtime by far out of the 6.

Oh yeah. He has ALWAYS been called a Stevie Wonder clone. I've also heard many comparisons to Sylvester "Sly Stone" Stewart.

Nah, I was just joking around. I like them, just not a whole lot. I used to call them Jamiroqueer. I had a friend who was really into them, always trying to make me listen. Off of that I developed an entire batthory of self-defense mechanisms. I'll reveal more if this thread lives on.

I don't see how you or Terry could be so off base with your comments. I can see liking R&B/funk from the 70s more, but they definitely don't fall short of emulating that sound or bringing quality to the genre. They are an extremely talented group.

I've only heard one album of theirs(the album with Virtual Insanity), and i hated it. That was a long time ago though. I may feel differently if i were to revisit that album now, but it left a bad taste in my mouth forcing me to have no desire to peep it ever again.

These guys are decent Cise, but you honestly consider them the best group ever?? C'Mon Son! They're not even close. Especially when you throw every genre into the mix.
They don't compare to groups like Earth Wind & Fire, The Temptations, The Jackson 5, The Gap Band, The Commodores, The 4 Tops, The Supremes, The Isley Brothers and tons of other dope singing groups. You should check them out sometime.

Co-sign KJ. This isn't really the same sound of the classics. It's electrified, cheeseball, pop doo-doo. Which is fine, if you like it. I definitely respect your tastes, Cise. Most of your recs have been right on lately (off hip-hop, at least).
I mean, would you really qualify their sound as "organic"? Not I.

Best based on the strength of their discography. They don't have a single album lower than 4.75 stars. But of course you probably haven't heard more than a few songs.
I'm vaguely familiar with the groups you've listed so I'll have to check them out in the future. I've only recently delved outside of the hip hop genre so cut me some slack.
What's wrong with me calling them my favorite group? I don't care what you or the rest think...I like this group and their music speaks to me. If you don't like it so be it. I don't go around clowning on you for liking whatever the hell you listen to.

I respect this. At least you didn't completely slag me off like the poster above.
Their sound changes from album to album so its hard to say whats organic and whats not. Their first 2 albums are the only ones I'd remotely consider organic.

Dude, calm down. Them being your favorite group doesn't bother me. It's just that when you called them the best group ever, it led me to believe that there's a ton of other groups that you haven't heard, and my suspicion was correct based on what you just said.

Fair enough. The way you first responded really rubbed me the wrong way.
I'll check out those groups you listed but I have a feeling that since they are so old they will be a nightmare to find. Out of those groups which is the closest to Jamiroquai's sound?

well of the ones I mentioned, none of them really are all that close to Jamiroquai's sound but it will certainly give you an R&B look....hey it's good that your willing to branch out and try new sounds outside of just hip-hop so props is due for that Cise...
anyway check out some of these:
Glenn Lewis-World Outside My Window
EnVogue-Born To Sing
Zhane-Pronounced Zhane
Musiq Soulchild-Aijuswanaseing
GUY-GUY
Sade-The Best Of Sade
Groove Theory-Groove Theory
this is just a few to start with man...they shouldn't be too hard to find as none of them was released before 1990 (except GUY)...but I think everyone of them is available on Amazon...none of the above efforts is below 4.50 stars IMO....just really great R&B to give you a few ideas outside of the hip-hop realm man!

Ah, R&B is my specialty. Powell gave you some dope acts. Zhane Pronounced Jah-Nay is dope, Kay Gee of Naughty By Nature produces most of the songs on there. The Guy album is a most own, New Jack at it's finest. You should check out Big Bub "Timeless", really underrated imo. I would suggest his group album, Today, but they are oop and very expensive. Pick it up if you ever come across it, really dope stuff. If you want a more modern sound, try Sam Salter "It's on Tonight". Amazing album, this guy should of hit it big. If you want a more hip hop feel, try Subway "Goodtimes". A young Twista makes a dope appearance on this album. This album is excellent to relax and vibe to.

Bridging out even further does anyone know any good drum and bass and jungle groups?

Along the lines of R&B, I'd like to recommend Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings as well as "The Way I See It" from Raphael Saadiq. These are examples of truly organic music. Also, Maxwell has done a lot of really interesting work. From electro, pop-type R&B, to smooth jazz R&B. I wouldn't hesitate to look into his catalog. Very talented guy.
Powell & KJ, I know we have our 'social' differences, but I've got to wonder why you guys have never checked out the recs I've got above. You would really dig that music. Don't be spiteful, you're only cheating yourselves.
