I think Kev's opinion is that Rakim doesn't murk most of his favs. It's all a matter of opinion, and no opinion is fact. True story. Also, I think "Follow the Neither" was funny and clever. At least he didn't say Willie D >>>>>> And it's not like he said this is the worst album ever. I don't see any reason to get defensive, but you do you. As for me, I'd say this is back end Top 50.

| Top 50 from Powell and KJ? So let me get this straight from you guys.... 4-5 Gangstarr get in (or tell me how many) 3 or 4 Mobb Deep get in (or tell me how many) 5-10 Wu/wu-affiliate get in (or tell me how many) 3-4 EPMD get in (or tell me how many) 4-5 pe get in (or tell me how many) 5-7 krs get in (or tell me how many) 4-5 run dmc get in (or tell me how many) 5-7 nas albums get in (or tell me how many) 3-4 KGRAP get in (or tell me how many) 4-5 jay-z get in (or tell me how many) 3-4 ll cool j get in (or tell me how many) 4 rakim get in (or tell me how many) 2-3 BDK get in (or tell me how many) 2 biggie get in 3-4 ATCQ get in (or tell me how many) 4-5 roots get in (or tell me how many) do the math fellas, your not so classic albums such as this DONT fit. stop voting in not top 50 stuff. that is 59 albums from you guys in the top 50 using conservative estimates (i.e. the lower) and not any side favorites you may have

| No offense Steve, but for you to do all that math you must have a tremendous amount of time on your hands.
Granted, I'd have to sit down and really think about my official Top 50 because there are way more than 50 classic albums from the East. But Follow The Leader makes my list easily. I bumped the hell out of this album back in the days and I still play it today.
This album along with Paid In Full (which is in my Top 5), and possibly Let The Rhythm Hit Em make it for me. |

| Ok Steve, I'll entertain you and play this game......
4-5 Gangstarr get in (or tell me how many) 2 maybe 3 3 or 4 Mobb Deep get in (or tell me how many) 2 5-10 Wu/wu-affiliate get in (or tell me how many) 5 3-4 EPMD get in (or tell me how many) 1 maybe 2 4-5 pe get in (or tell me how many) 2 maybe 3 5-7 krs get in (or tell me how many) 4 maybe 5 4-5 run dmc get in (or tell me how many) 1 maybe 2 5-7 nas albums get in (or tell me how many) 4 3-4 KGRAP get in (or tell me how many) 2 4-5 jay-z get in (or tell me how many) 2 3-4 ll cool j get in (or tell me how many) 2 4 rakim get in (or tell me how many) 2 maybe 3 2-3 BDK get in (or tell me how many) 2 2 biggie get in 3-4 ATCQ get in (or tell me how many) 2 maybe 3 4-5 roots get in (or tell me how many) 2 maybe 3
So there you have it. While I can't speak for Powell, you overestimated my totals quite a bit. Sure, I do love all of those artists you just mentioned, but there are only 50 spots so only the Top 50 albums make the cut.
I also don't know why you chose Follow The Leader for this rant, but it is a consensus classic so it shouldn't be hard to believe why people would have it in their Top 50. If you don't then that's fine, but I'm willing to bet that most Rakim fans do.

| Kev, I know you're not a Rakim fan so I'm not surprised that none of his albums are on your list, but to say that there's no room for him objectively is flat out riduculous!! Especially considering the fact that you have a double digit amount of non-classics on your list and Rakim has 3 classics.

If you SCROLL UP you'll see my comeback. One other thing you need to consider is that with a Top 50 for any region (especially the East IMO) when you get to the back end, there's gonna be albums which on any given day could make your list so you end up voting them in anyway. So myself and Powell aren't the only ones guilty of that. I'm willing to bet that EVERYONE here (yourself included) has done that, if not with the East than with other regions. |

I don't care if he doesn't like Rakim. It's just that what he said made me SMH. The same way he feels when someone says something negative about GB's, Face, or Willie D. |

| i missed too much east coast shiznik, or else you're right, i very well may have.
and i'm not asking for a list powell, just how many from each person you'd vote in; then consider my addendum of artists. KJ gave a logical explanation how things can change day to day and that explains his lowballing to prove a point on the classics. it's all good baby bubba.
we're just naturally on opposite sides of the aisle, naturally given my pac love and biggie dislike, and you guys rep the opposite. i like arguing/debating/whateva with you two because you reply, and are entertaining, and i'd imagine the same is true for you two. |

LOL yeah. Don't Sweat The Technique ranks last among Eric B & Rakim albums. Here's the thing with me. I agree Follow The Leader is probably the better album ratings wise, but it feels like Paid In Full-lite to me. That's not a bad thing, but when i want to hear that type of sound, i spin Paid In Full cause it's the superior effort. IMO, DSTT offers a different sound and vibe to me, and i may actually reach for it more than FTL because of that. That may not be a big deal to everyone, but it is to me. That's why Kast will always be the greatest group of all time IMO. They have 4 albums that reach 5 stars with me, and none of them sound alike. Also, DSTT is better than Let The Rhythm Hit Em IMO.

Let The Rhythm Hit Em SMOKES DSTT. There's nothing as weak as Relax With Pep or Kick Along on LTRHE. The title track to DSTT may be the best on either album (actually Know The Ledge is, but I credit that more to the Juice Soundtrack because it was released on that first) but LTRHE is far more consistent and lyrical. |

That may be true, but I just feel that LTRHE is a more consistent album. As for that Nas comment, Braveheart Party is one skip track, Relax With Pep and Kick Along are two skip tracks. After Know The Ledge and the title track, the quality of DSTT drops off big time IMO. In fact, if KTL weren't on the album, I'd drop it's rating from 4.5 to 4.25. LTRHE has a stronger collection of tracks like it's title track, Untouchables, In The Ghetto, No Omega, Run For Cover, and Mahogany among others. 5 stars to this listener. |
