I think you are overstating Marshall's "substance", first off. Second, Red has storytelling, battle rap, and that party shit locked down. Big deal if he's always joking and positive. The only difference is Em's 'poor me' subject matter. That's not automatically more substantial...

Not trying to be as offensive as that sounds...just think about it, though. They both talk about being kids, but Red's angle makes you laugh...Marshall (tries to) make you feel bad. It might leave a longer impression, but it's just a surface-level literary mechanism...not substance.

For my money, anyway, that shit's irrelevant. Obviously Red has a family, baby mama, etc...he chooses not to rep his personal life in his music. Do you doubt he could? Of course not...but you like that Eminem does, and that's all good too.

Hey Kev, Redman is an entertaining storyteller with a dope flow and he's also an above average lyricist that borders on greatness at times. He has plenty of substance (see Supaman Lover) and his discog is one of the best in the history of the game.

I'm gonna pick Redman in this matchup. Eminem is a better lyricist but Redman's overall discog is better IMO. They have the same amount of classics, but I think Redman's non-classic albums are better than Em's.

These two both rank around the same area on my GOAT list (mid-teens) so I won't have a problem with whomever ends up winning, but my vote is for the Funk Dr. Spot.

This has easily been the hardest decision I've had to make in the tourney so far.

I define substance as versatility, not necessarily depth. But yeah I'm fine with either of them advancing.
