| Anyway............
This was the best cypher hands down imo closely followed by the Rev Run/Cube one.
Bones Brigante won this one hands down. Yela Wolf was a close 2nd. |

Rae did look a little different. He's certainly showing his age, and I don't mean that as a form of disrespect. |

I guess I should have said I'm very skeptical of some of the people big-upped here. Especially those that aren't household names.

| Dat boiiii Yellllllllllllllerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Bones was dope, too, but I just feel like Yela stands out more, and that's the stuff that speaks to me in a posse cut. Bones is dope, but his style doesn't really make me pay attention like Yela does. |

What you really meant: Dat boiii Yelllllllllllllllllllllllerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Bones is black so I feel the white rapper stands out more. Bones is dope but that typical black rapper style doesn't really make me pay attention like the white emcee....whatever his name is. |

lol...imagine that. That's why I find these "cyphers" to be sort of lame. What's the point of listening to cats stand around spitting writtens over other peoples beats? I can buy a "mixtape" (another word that has lost all meaning) for that. The only cat to freestyle (another word that...well, you get it) on any of these BET "cyphers" is KRS One. Even Eminem, Mos Def and Black Thought spit writtens... If I were to vote for any of them, it'd be Bones. Yelawolf I just don't feel. Wiz has always been forgettable in my book. Rae just seems bored out there...

While I can still find these cyphas entertaining, I do agree that its prob all just bullshit. Freestyles and mixtapes just aint real anymore. Neither are DJs for the most part.

| Freestyle doesn't necessarily mean off the dome. I always get a little bothered when people are either like "man! they're spitting writtens" or "damn! that was off the dome" when the reaction should be neither. Because they're almost never off the top, and if they are they usually suck. Unless it's a circle of 5 MC Super Naturals I don't want to hear a cypher of dudes going off the dome. Big Daddy Kane explains it best here: http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/interviews/id.1597/title.big-daddy-kane-rap-like-no-equal | |

| Freestyling exists. I've seen people like KRS, Rakaa Iriscience, Redman, Jay Z, Canibus, Jean Grae and many others freestyle live at shows. What I heard was far from wack. Where you jumped the gun is the fact that no one is expecting them to spit super complex lyrics over "Eric B. Is President". Freestyling is an exercise in skill. Even if you rhyme like Rev Run, just exhibit some skill. That's what folks are saying for the most part. If the cats that you listen to "freestyle" with writtens, you're missing out. Step that up, homie. I watched KRS cypher with my own two eyes...there was nothing about that session that "sucked".
Fuck what Kane is saying...unless he created freestyling.

| I know that freestyling exists, and I know that there are MCs that are good at it. I've freestyled myself and listened to plenty of true frees, but I'm just pointing out that most dudes aren't actually freeing 90% of the time whenever something is labeled freestyle. On radio & TV shows or when they spit over someone else's beat for a 'mixtape' and call it a freestyle, it's not really off the dome because dudes are afraid to risk falling off in front of everybody so they got shit prepared, so I don't see why so many people are surprised when dudes spit written in cyphers when it is a common practice. Also, most of these dudes probably can't free that well anyway that's why I wouldn't want to hear these dudes kick off top in these cyphers. I mean just listen to Kanye's little freed intro on that cypher. | |
