| Reasonable Doubt barely. If it were Nation Of Millions it'd be a different story. |

I don't really agree with that. I think Tran listens to a lot of hip hop just not the rap YOU think he should. I'm almost sure Tran has heard some Public Enemy. Maybe he did not fall in love with twhat he heard. And thats cool. Why force himself to dig deeper if you has listened to a good amount of their material song wise. Tran just get their greatest hits and you'll be good. All their best classic songs are their singles for the most part. Like most 80's hip hop acts. Now if Tran has heard no PE than I agree with you guys. |

Now if Tran has heard no PE than I agree with you guys. I don't believe he has. He's admitted to never hearing a Run-DMC album. And GTFOH talking about "just get their greatest hits album" BS. While a number of their classics is on it, there's a few that are missing. If it were the Geto Boys and someone said that you'd be heated. |

| To say you outright don't respect someones musical tastes over a trifling issue like this is pretty sad. While Tran gets a lot of stick on this forum for his tastes he certainly knows a lot about hip hop and definitely more than I do. He's one of the few who shares a deep passion for Far East hip hop and I respect that.
In fact, he along with Pounds are probably closest to me in terms of hip hop taste. So if you're gonna hate on his taste why not just hate on mine too.
I just wish the random beefs on this forum could be squashed. I consider nearly all of you friends and I'm sure others feel the same way.

To be perfectly blunt with you I don't know a single thing about that time period either. I have years and years of learning before I can ever contribute to some of these discussions. That's why you don't see my posting in the "old school" section. My knowledge of that era is laughable.

If you did, then maybe you'd find that you'd like some of them. Tran doesn't peep them, and then says that he doesn't want to which makes me not respect his views. Yet if I were to say that about some random post 2000 underground album, guys like Tran, SRP, Shaun, Jeff, Kid Joe, Romped, and the like would jump down my fucking throat. |

| I jump on Tran's ass all the time, KJ. Here's the point: I know far more than you would give me credit for, but you still continue your pointless jabber to make it seem like you're more knowledgable. If you were capable of being more mature about it then people would jump on your case less. You act like there's a 100 mile radius on the east coast and everything else in the world doesn't matter. It's bullshit.
And the shit we jump on you about, isn't random post 2000 albums, it's the new standards. I don't give a fuck if you haven't heard Goon Sqwad, but you should really know and respect The Cold Vein's current status in hip hop. Would you rather Def Jux or Souljah Boi lead the next generation of mc's? Strange Music or Young Joc? RSE or Young Money? |

Would you rather Def Jux or Souljah Boi lead the next generation of mc's? Strange Music or Young Joc? RSE or Young Money? I never said that everything that isn't East Coast doesn't matter, but what I have noticed is that most of the non-East Coasters in here save for a few don't show the older East Coast artists and classics much love at all. I've lived through every hip-hop era and have seen the rise and fall of the genre, so I'm knowledgable enough to know that a lot of East Coast classics have held up well today. After all, if they didn't then they wouldn't be considered classics. As for the "new standards", there's plenty of under the radar artists that I like, but most of them aren't well liked by most of this forum (Jurassic 5, Lupe Fiasco, Little Brother, Skyzoo, etc). And even the ones that do get a little love often get overshadowed (Immortal Technique, Binary Star, Blaq Poet, etc). I've heard The Cold Vein, and while it's a good album I wouldn't rank it as an all time great. And sure, the artists you mention are better than those that get spun on the radio, MTV, and BET. But the overall hip-hop scene isn't as good overall as it used to be. Back in the 80's and 90's, most of the guys on today's radio would have gotten little to no airplay. That's the difference. |

Yeah I've slowly been trying to incorporate them into my usual listening patterns. I've basically been picking artists and going through their best works and whatnot. I def like a lot of what I've heard. I wouldn't outright refuse to listen to anything though. I try to give everything a fair chance.
