Technicaly, this is a Dres solo but he decided to keep the Black Sheep brand and for good reason. People have been starving for more Black Sheep since Non-Fiction (and I don't count 8mm as that seemed to be a rushed project just to release an album, plus nobody knew it even existed). But this new release is very different as Dres brings back the formula that so many of his fans have come to love.
Black Sheep hasen't sounded this good since A Wolf in Sheeps Clothing as most of the songs remind me very much of that album (the style). The gem of the album is "Reason to Pray", whic has a great beat and uplifting lyrics. This is definately a more mature Dres, who still sounds great on the mic. Another great song is the Native Tounge reunion of sorts featuring Trugoy, Mike Gee, and Q-Tip. It's good to see that Dres hasen't forgotten his roots.
A couple of the songs are forgettable (such as the one with Rosie Perez, who sounds absolutely terrible on the hook) but the rest of the album balances nicely. I give it a solid 4 stars with high replay value. Black Sheep fans need to cop this!

I meant to post about this album. I like it. He sounds revitalized, it puts in the mind of Puba's Retroactive.

Awesome! I heard Dres perform a song on the Monique show last week and it sounded dope. I wish Mista Lawnge were still with him though. Nevertheless I'll download it.

I disagree there. 8MM was a dope and underrated album. I bought the hard copy. I'd give it 4 stars. The new one does sound nice. I'll probably be buying it as well.

Agreed, I like 8MM better than Non-Fiction personally, and AWISC is classic IMO.

For some reason, I could not get into 8mm. There was just something about it that I diden't like. Probably the fact that it took so damn lawnge for me to find it.
Speaking of Mr. Lawnge, he left the group shortly after 8mm and changed his name to Mr. Long and he was going to release a solo LP. That was 4 years ago. Haven't heard from him since.

This has been one of my most rotated discs this year...I totally cosign the review. "Come Back Home" and "Birds of a Feather" are my jams.

I downloaded this album and it's fuckin awesome! Easily their best release since their classic debut and one of the best releases of the year. I'd give it about 4.25-4.5 stars.

This is one of the best of the year (maybe top 15?)
More people should know about this LP.

I agree that more people should know about it. Hip-Hop just isn't as heavily promoted as it used to be and that's sad. It's the reason why good hip hop like this gets slept on and garbage like Young Money floods the airwaves on radio and TV.
This is easily a Top 10 album of 2010, possibly Top 5 with some thought.

I don't really understand the rave reviews personally. I listened to it 2+ times in the car today and it's not really grabbing me aside from a few cuts. And even those aren't strong standouts IMO. I guess you can say I like all their others including 8MM more at this point. But I'll play it more and see. Currently around 3.25-3.5/5 for me (after a couple spins).

Wow, I'm surprised to hear you say that Pounds. I like this better than 8mm and Non-Fiction easily. It's a little R&Bish but Dres does bring the heat and the his subject matter is deep on this album.

Alan, you're a tough customer. I agree that this album is better then 8mm and slightly tops Non-Fiction (almost dead even). I also agree that there are some deep lyrics on this album. It was the lyrics and style that grabbed my attention. The beats (with the exception of a few bangers) are typical of what's being put out this year.
I have this one at 4 stars and it is in heavy rotation.
Alan, did you order this on cassette?? LOL

LOL...
Well, the album has grown on me a bit more. I'd say more around 3.5-3.75 stars now. I guess the production is not really wowing me. Dres is on-point for the most part. Lyrically, I don't have many complaints besides some redundant hooks/choruses. I'm not really complaining. It was a solid buy IMO. I'd have to play 8MM again to see if I like it more. Even still, I'm a big fan of "Non-Fiction". Apparently I feel that one is quite a bit stronger than both of you. It's not far off from the debut's quality IMO. That's one that has stayed in the case for years. Got it on tape and CD.

3.5 stars to me. It was an underrated album, but it was easily one of the best ones of last year. Dres calm flow was mixed very well with nice production, very jazzy at times. No more humour like in early Black Sheep days, more reality and consciousness, a more mature material. Oboe loop on Forever Luvlee was crazy dope, and the Native Tongues reunion track was a very good one.

2010 was was a lackluster year for Hip Hop IMO as compared to 2009, which was absolutely crazy. But you MUST have a tough grading scale if you only gave Geinus 3.5 stars. LOL

2010 was not impressive at all...so yes, kinda tough granding scale. I would've rated Dres higher, but the second half of the disc isn't on the same page as the first.
