The funny thing is my sources were wrong... DMG is in no way related to Face, that ebay listing I found was just wrong.

Is Jazzmatazz really tight? I never hear none of you really talk about it but all of a sudden its going against DMG and it has all these fans.

Yeah Kev this album was pretty tight man, (grown folks shit)....I've got it at 4.5 stars easily....A whole bunch of different jazz legends/jazz vibes backing up Guru......it was pretty dope man...the best one of the whole series is this one IMO!

Kev, if you're into that type of stuff, you will like it. If you're not into it, it's a bit of a bore.

Yeah, it's just jazzy rap with guru... no where near as good as Gang starr... I assume most people havn't heard the DMG, it's a very slept on/unknown album.

Yeah I haven't heard the DMG yet but I'm going to this week after seeing that review from that person I don't know. I've heard the first two Jazzmatazz volumes, I don't think they are boring but they don't stack up to any GS release that I've heard. Also, I might prefer the second Jazzmatazz to the first.

I've got Jazzmatazz Vol 1 ahead of No More Mr. Nice Guy (3.5 stars) and about even with The Ownerz (both of those are 4.5 stars IMO) but all of the other GS releases are better than it...
Kev you have never been a fan of jazzy styled hip-hop (A Tribe Called Quest in particular) but I did notice that you liked Digable Planets-Reachin' so you may actually like Jazzmatazz alot man....

This pretty much sums it up. Also, add in that DMG is a Rap-A-Lot release that's not Scarface (or the Geto Boys), so people are going to shit on it.

These albums are pretty equal in quality IMO. I love the jazz rap, so Guru wins with me. I give the album 4.5 stars and consider it a personal classic.

Powell, he is only complaining because it's going against DMG. If it was Jazzmatazz vs Black Reign, he could care less what we thought of Jazzmatazz. I give it a 4.5 rating also, and I agree with Powell's assessment, as well as Terry's and Pedro's. It's not for everybody, but IMHO it's dope as shit.

Yes indeed.
It really surprises me it doesn't get more respect. It's a perfect blend of cool and contemporary jazz and hip-hop. I'd have to say to those that don't like it - you may not like jazz that much. I have no problem with it either way. But it sounds quite ignorant to say it isn't an very well done album.
