So The 5th matchup in this series takes us to Brooklyn and puts the DITC vet O.C.'s first two solo albums against each other. People always regard these as his 2 best and i absolutely agree but they both have different sounds and different feels and the three year period between them definitely marked a change in sound.
So here we go: Word... Life vs. Jewelz
vs.

Word...Life in a close one. Actually for a long time I preferred Jewelz, but after listening to both of these albums loads of times over the past couple of years I think Word...Life is better in almost every way. These are both great albums, classics even. Jewelz had the nicer recording quality and O.C. had some nice guests with him on a few tracks, but it's just not as consistently good as Word...Life. Jewelz has some slow parts and Word...Life is just constantly enthralling for me. Time's Up, Point O' Viewz, No Main Topic, etc....you just can't fuck with that assortment of tracks.

i actually agree with every single word you typed...lmao
This is an easy answer for me in Word...Life but that isnt taking anything away from Jewelz, but the way Word....Life flows together along with that early-mid 90's NY feel the album gives off is something not to be fucked with. I will also throw in the title song "Word...Life" as being one of my favorites, that is definitely a perfect song

I just spun both of these yesterday. Jewelz is my favorite of the 2.

hmmm I'm going with Word...Life in a very close one....both of them are quality efforts though
and to be honest I've got Oasis over both of these....now that one is 5 plus stars for me....Word....Life is 4.75 stars and Jewelz is 4.50 stars for me.....
O.C. is dope!

Word...Life wins this matchup pretty easily over Jewelz. I like Oasis as well, but it's not fucking with Word...Life either.

Word....Life is OVERRATED people...at least IMO....that shit is not an all-time great album.....although it does contain an all-time great single in Times Up....
Oasis is obviously a completely underground album and contains no all-time singles but as an album it has way higher replay value, and contains better songs than both Word.....Life and Jewelz does IMO....sorry Charlie...lol

I co-sign Powell 10000000000000000000%. Word...Life is a dope album, but it's in the 4.5 star range.

Go get that Oasis Peterson....you'll like that joint a bunch...don't listen to Slang....cause he's full of shit (I mean opinion, lol) just like me man...and IN MY OPINION Oasis is an extremely dope effort from both O.C. and A.G. and that shit bangs throughout and is better than both Word...Life and Jewelz....it's just non-stop pure hip-hop...both the production and the lyrics from both emcees are top notch....

I cosign the dopeness of Oasis. I don't feel as extreme about it as Powell but I like it.

Hey Peterson here is 3 cuts off of Oasis for a little preview for you......I like all 3 of these but again the whole album is hittin' mane......boom-bap NYC styled hip-hop basically....if you don't like that type of hip-hop then I already know that this will not be the album for you....

Its not lacking anything for what it is. But the replay value is not high on my list. Its one of those albums you hear here and there.

And I understand that coming from you Kev because Boom-Bap NYC hip-hop is NOT your strong suit....everyone on here knows that...so that goes back to what I was just saying to Peterson...if thats not his cup of tea then he might feel the same way you do about it...which is all good too.....

Agreed!! Oasis was one of my favorite albums of 2009 but Word...Life has much more replay value and doper lyricism. If Word...Life would have dropped in 09 it would have been AOTY. It's a Top 100 album of all time IMO.

O.C. by himself emceeing is not better than what he wrote on Oasis COMBINED with what A.G. wrote as well..... now that just sounds crazy KJ....lol

How is that crazy?? I'm certain that most people would take Word...Life over Oasis, and I'm not just talking about this forum either. O.C. was RAW back then, he's still dope now but the subject matter on Word...Life is what gives it the edge for me, that and he spit more memorable lines. A.G. was dope too, but Oasis ain't fuckin with Runaway Slave either.
I've got Oasis at 4.5 stars or so, but Word...Life is a classic to me. A Top 5 DITC album easily.

Hey Slang, you need to do more of these matchups more often. I really like this topic and can think of several matchups that I'd personally like to see.
