I guess Warren G can try and figure out what's N-X-E-T...since he's about to be sent packing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, anybody that doesn't like Illmatic is NOT a real hip-hop fan. True hip-hop fans like dope lyrics, and Illmatic's got some of the dopest lyrics ever put on wax, if not THE dopest. Don't care who I piss off with this statement.

I understand we all favor different genres of music. I understand that we all have biases when it comes to the types of music that we favor. However, I figured that there are some CDs that no matter what, we all can appreciate. Regulate..is clearly a fav of mine but I'm surprised it got any votes going against Illmatic.....just my take

Agreed, but we all know that SRP is anti-East Coast save for Wu-Tang, Cormega, and a handful of others. And Tran, well he's just a bitch that's hatin because Illmatic is my fav album. Those two would vote for Souljahboytellem over Illmatic.
Seriously though, Illmatic has something on it for every hip-hop fan. I know it's not gonna be everyone's GOAT, but I can't see why a hip-hop fan wouldn't like it at all. Just doesn't make sense.

Just because I prefer Warren G over it, doesn't mean I don't like it. I find it boring for the most part...uninspired... tepid...insincere...etc.
At least I don't freak out like a bratty child when an album gets 2 votes against it and accuse people of things I know nothing about "anti east coast" - ok, sure...

I've never met ANYONE that has said any of those things about Illmatic. I'll just chalk it up to you not liking dope lyricism. That's all bullshit! And you've said in the past that you don't like the album so quit backpeddling.
I don't care that you like Regulate better, but you've never taken it in any matchup it's ever been in so it's obvious that you don't like it. I could make several cases of you hating on Nas and the East Coast in general but that would take all day.

Wow Tran, I say one thing and you continue crying! LMAO, doesn't take much to get you riled. I find it amusing.
To answer your question though, you're extremely closed minded when it comes to hip-hop. You hate on people whom you've never heard, and your overall knowledge is limited and you refuse to try and expand it. That makes me not respect your hip-hop views.

Who's riled? Weren't you the mofo who went on facebook and cried about people hating on you? And how much you hate your life because of it???? Aren't you the pussy who hates me? I let go of that petty beef with you along time ago. You are the one who keeps trying to diss on me for voting against your fav, and think I'm hater because of it. And you are the one who resorts to name calling.
Close minded? Have you check out my recent spins and purchases? Hate on artists I never heard? Who???? I give artists honest chances, I even BUY their fucking albums blind. My overall knowledge is limited? Look in the mirror next time when you say crap like this.
Again, I let go the beef a long time ago, you should do the same.

1. Ras Kass, Royce, Eminem, Jay Z, Canibus, K-Rino, etc. are all among my favorites... so yeah, I don't like dope lyricists. 2. Illmatic has been in one other match up this tournament, that's enough for you to jump to conclusions about it? If it is matched up against an album I like less, it will get my vote. 3. And please, make your several cases. Rather that than you making things up and having nothing to back them up with.

...Didn't know that my statement would cause all of this. I was simply expressing my opinion on the subject. The same way that Tran would express his opinion about Blue Scholars, the same way Pedro would express his opinion about K Rino and the same way Shaun would express his opinion about Cormega. I'm not here for the petty beefs. I have too much other things that I need to do.

From my perspective, your statement was fine, and true. I can understand how some might prefer other albums to Illmatic, so it's no big deal to me. The way I see it, KJ just used your statement as a jumping off point to go at SRP and Tran.

You know, I can really see someone favoring Regulate over Illmatic. Illmatic certainly does not have "something for everyone", as KJ said. It would have no appeal to fans of feel good party hip-hop, which is exactly what Regulate is. For that reason, I'm actually surprised more folk haven't claimed it in this thread.
That said, I'm voting Illmatic. I don't worship it like some of you, but it is a more solid album to me and I generally am loyal to the darker atmosphere and lyrical dexterity Nas brought on his debut. It's not my favorite from 94, though.

I grew up bumping Regulate in my cousin's van back in the dayz. That, Pac, X-Raided & Brotha Lynch Hung were the main CDs we would always bump. Shit brings back memories, Illmatic ain't fucking with it IMO. That's all that matters to me is my opinion.

Please Tran, I've forgotten more about hip-hop than you will ever know. When you show some knowledge about something pre-Tupac then come holla at me.
And SRP, you've said that 2 Live Crew's little stance on stickered albums was bigger than Run-DMC expanding the rap game which is BULLSHIT. You neithered EVERY SINGLE East Coast rap album I nominated when I was running the album thread and whined and bitched about how I was running the thread. And you talk shit about Illmatic damn near every chance you get. Want more examples?

2 Live Crew's first amendment stance did have a bigger impact on the game than Run DMC.
Neither wasn't an option in the poll from what I remember.
I don't hate on illmatic every chance I get.

1) NO FUCKIN WAY did that have a bigger impact on the game than Run-DMC. If it wasn't for RUN-DMC, 2 Live Crew wouldn't have had records to make a stance on. What Run-DMC did for the game is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest story in the history of the game. 2 Live's Crew's stance was a footnote at best.
2) Yeah, it was a option
3) Ok, maybe 90% of the time

KJ stop playing yourself on your one sided at times blind point of view. 2 Live may would have been Run DMC is they did not exist. Let me see.... mass appeal? Check. Two rappers? Check. Dope DJ? Check. 2 Live's stand against censorship was big for the music industry period. Let it had been one of those precious east coast grps. It would be all you mofo's would bring up.
And Tran I feel you on the reasons you luv that Regulate. Thats what it's all about, fuck picking whats the norm and the given.

"2 Live Crew's first amendment stance did have a bigger impact on the game than Run DMC."
I'm only going to comment on this completely idiotic statement right here...don't really care about everything else being mentioned because I have no problem that some hip-hop heads don't love Illmatic...it is what it is....and opinion is everything......I guess this is opinion too but damn is it misinformed....not sure where he's getting that one court case had a bigger impact on the game then the biggest hip-hop group of all-time (I didn't say the dopest...that is subject to whomever you like) I said the BIGGEST...the group that influenced the 2 Live Crew to even think about doing hip-hop music.....
no hip-hop group means more to hip-hop culture than Run-D.M.C.....please do your homework man....2 Live Crew had the biggest censorship case in hip-hop music although they weren't the first to be attacked for their lyrics in hip-hop music....Public Enemy, NWA, Schoolly D, Just-Ice, Ice-T, and others all were attacked for their lyrics but 2 Live Crew had the most recognized case in the press (which led to their song: Banned In The USA and later Heavy D joined the fight by making his song Don't Curse)....but that (court case) did more for hip-hop culture than Run-D.M.C.???

I guess i'm the only one who took offense to Highsmith's comments.

This type of thinking is what's wrong with certain people. Assuming any album is untouchable in any match up screams elitism IMO. I don't think that was his intention, but when do elitist people really intend to be elite? It just comes out naturally. East coast bias strikes again.....just my take. At least he was polite and respectful, not at all antagonistic.
and for the record, Illmatic wins this for me by just a little bit.

Cause it's mad funky. The funk is infectious. Illmatic gets less spins from me as the years go on. Not to say it isn't a classic, but Warren G made a slapper.
