We should do a solo version of this, because I think that the "artists" part is kinda misleading, but if we had a "100 Greatest MC's" and a "100 Greatest Acts" it'd be easier to understand.

IMO thats being to technical I mean a artist and emcee can go hand and hand. Artists kinds of covers the whole field. Plus do we really need more polls right now?

No, but I'm saying, when you open a thread called "100 Greatest Artists" and then see The Roots at number one with Wu Tang in the top of the field plus members of Wu below that...it seems misleading. I'm just trying to encourage discussion because this place has been boring lately lol.

I thought that same thing when this first started, N3R0. Acts could also be producers/DJs and all that.

Those opinions will form a consensus for this forum. Skil can be viewed in a multitude of different ways, and personal opinion will always be a factor. Powell will always hear more in Chuck D than i will. I will always hear more in Andre 3000 than Powell will. It is what it is, and there is no right or wrong answer.

Also, there is nothing wrong with Nas being #23. It's more than respectable(I personally have him ranked a tad bit higher). Scarface is at 19 and GZA is at fucking 47, but you don't see me crying and shit, do you?

well it would still make the list completely different

for example De La is #7 but in a top MC list Posdonous would never finish that high as good as he is

It's not so much where he was ranked that bothers me (although I would have had him ranked MUCH higher) but that Cory singled him out and said he had no business being in the Top 10, for that I had to give him a C'Mon Son.

Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous is fairly widely considered a classic, and The Big Picture was dope, granted it wasn't finished before he was killed, but YEEEAH BABY wasn't finished before Big Pun died, so I don't know if I buy the one album argument. As far as impact goes, the only thing i can come up with is that he helped Jay-Z get on somewhat... or at least he acted as a stepping stone to help Jay transition from his Big Daddy Kane triple-stepping to his Biggie-biting, so yeah... the lack of impact point is valid.

Overall though, I think Big L definitely should make the list based on, if nothing else, how ill he was.

because 1/2 the forum had/has never heard of him, and many who had didn't like him.
