EXACTLY!! Rap music has always has some suspect dress codes and music in it. But the good outweighed the bad so it was not a focal point.
I have NEVER seen a skirt on a male Kev sorry mayne, no eye liners, no make-ups, no out the closet GAYS....suspect dress codes or not
I guess the bad is truly outweighing the good nowadays huh?
I mean how many rappers are wearing dresses and feminine make-up? Don't let 1-2 rappers dictate a case of homo shit for the other 100+ rappers out here. Remember in the video when the interviewer made a point about how GrandFlash & The 5 dressed? Let me remind you:

Ummm Kevin this was discussed in the Jamar interview pretty much at the beginning of it as too why the Furious Five dressed the way they did buddy...they had no blueprint for hip-hop dressing in terms of being on stage back in 1980...lol, so they dressed like the Village People/Parliment because thats what they thought it took to be entertainers...I have an even better question for you though......Why does KANYE wear a skirt in 2013?? he's had plenty of looks at hip-hop entertainers by now...so what's the deal Kevin??
??????????????????????? help me to help you Kevin..... , what does all this mean mayne?

Powell always has an excuse for his favorites.
You could post an NYC rapper sucking dick and he would just say nobody told him it wasn't hip-hop yet.

Adrian Broner beat that tuff little Welshman Gav Rees while wearing a skirt last saturday. I'd count him as standing for 2013 "hip hop" fashion since he raps while on his way to the ring. Personally would never claim it too be "cool", but stage clothes have always been over the top for attention seeking famous people.

I think he sees himself as both, a couple fights ago he had Waka Flaka as his rapping entourage on route to the ring.

Boxers have been hanging out with emcees for years man....porn stars hang out with emcees and athletes too so what.....what hip-hop album has Broner released??
what he's doing in terms of a boxer being around hip-hop music and culture is nothing new...here's the proof:
Thank God Mike NEVER wore a skirt......lol

Hanging around with, and actually performing the art as you should know are 2 different things. You got me there tho, I have no idea if he has released any studio material, but the guy raps on his way to the ring...In your mind that has to at least count a little for him being part of the "culture".

I'm not sure I see why there is such an outpouring of sympathy on here for dudes who wear skirts?? lol...a defending....a connect maybe?? not sure...lol

If he wants to run around in a skirt, he'd better be prepared for the consequences that may follow, be it positive or negative. Any hip hop artist could still get "touched" regardless of how big they think they are, so if something happens then...oh well. The same goes to fake thugs who rap the life and never ever lived it.

Just a couple of thoughts here...
First...I can't believe we are all not completely outraged by skirt wearing. Yes, Powell can beat a dead horse sometimes but there is no arguing this point. That shit is gay.
Speaking of gay...second...Powell, why do you keep throwing Frank Ocean into the discussion. He's an R&B singer not a rapper. And have you heard Channel Orange? Shit was really good, IMO.

Not fan of Frank Ocean my dude and yeah I've heard Channel Orange and I gave it 2 stars......When I want to hear newer r&b I'm listening to Robert Glasper-Black Radio...now he is DOPE! (5 stars plus)
also I can't believe that these heads in here aren't offended that some "men" claiming to be hip-hop are wearing skirts...it's baffling to me man....lol

Not everyone is stuck in the cave man mode. I for one am not necessarily defending rappers wearing skirts but I am aware enough to understand people as individuals. Plus skirts is stretching it because Dre and Ye wore Kilts. Yes they look like skirts but we all know for that tradition or culture men where them. Also how it really surprises anybody they would be the ones wearing them is beyond me. Now when Face, DMX, and Nas start rocking skirts I will really start worrying. But Ye and Dre have always been risqué with their fashion.
Some of you sound like some homophobes like you scared you will wake-up with skirts on one day. Men wearing woman skirts in rap will never be the in thang. Like I said using one or two rappers as an example of what's not hip hop is lame. I'm more concerned with the music. And Ye and Dre has giving us some of the best music ever. I don't agree with a lot shit rapper wear and say off the record period. But I also understand I am not their boss or a powerful figure to tell them how to dress.
Cats in rap has ALWAYS wore some suspect shit. Remember Ecstasy?

It's not that we're being homophobic Kev, it's just that bullshit like that doesn't belong in Hip Hop. That's all. If these dudes were actually gay no one would have a problem with them wearing skirts or anything else. It just sucks that they represent what we all love here. But you're right about the music part. The gay shit they do doesn't affect the music. I mean, shit, we all bump Michael Jackson right?

I have to check out that Robert Glasper then. I have been meaning to ask for some new school R&B recs. I haven't dug too deep but it seems like the selection these days is terrible. Everything is dancy and shit.
